Don't touch that! I need a picture first! TR - **NEW 04/17 PTR IS UP

After what felt like a lifetime, we finally were dressed up and arriving at MK. Oh, and I forgot to mention on our way back from Epcot, we made a stop to pick up our MNSSHP tickets.

ju7pzp.jpg

Which look like just any regular park ticket. I wish Disney would make these unique. After all, I'm paying $50+ for this party!

We got there around 5:30pm, over an hour and half later than I had wanted. There was a separate entrance allocated for only those who had MNSSHP tickets. Although, they were still letting people into the park with regular admission.

We went through and got our fancy wristbands.

If you hadn't followed along on my PTR (if you didn't, shame on you) you would want to know that I dressed up as Wendy from Peter Pan and Bubba was one of the ghost ladies from Haunted Mansion. We got our picture done in front of the train station. This spot has got to be the only place where it's imperative to get the horizon level right. Otherwise it looks like the station is sinking.

reic.jpg

This was the beginning of people STARING at us. Well, more Bubba than me. Everyone that walked by either stared in awe (or fear) of or complimented on Bubba's costume. Even when we started walking down Main Street, there were these people that looked to be from the media. Not sure if they were official or were doing a podcast. They literally grabbed Bubba and asked to take a picture with her. So who knows, she might be on the internet somewhere or in a Disney magazine. And it doesn't end there. Bubba was a huge hit with the kids too. Everywhere we went, there were little kids constantly talking to Bubba. It was like I had to fight for my own sister's attention! But I'm getting ahead of myself again....

Once we got passed the MNSSHP paparazzi, we decided to head over to Space Mountain. On our way over, I saw this gorgeous painting of Bambi. I nearly dropped the $500+ it cost but then thought better of myself and took a free photo as a momento instead.

jzi74l.jpg

Sure it's not the real thing but I can still look at it in all it's loveliness.

Anyways, we went over to Space Mountain. Riding a roller coaster in a nightgown is quite the task but poor Bubba had the most trouble. Trying to manoeuvre her awkward costume into and out of the ride was quite the task. Not to mention making sure she didn't lose her hat.

2hx6rzl.jpg

I was trying to go for the whimsical/magical look but instead I just look dazed. I love the guy in front of me. He just looks so happy!

After Space Mountain, we took a rest on the rightfully named Peoplemover

Here's a bit better look at our makeup with costumes

294rpfr.jpg

We used a whole tube of white makeup paste stuff for Bubba's face. The blue bow in my hair did not want to stay tied up. It kept falling out or getting undone so Bubba had to keep redoing it.

Oh! And the shoes that completed my costume

1ypzyo.jpg

Next, we went on Monsters Inc Laugh Floor hoping to be picked out from the crowd.

30nce4m.jpg

Bubba actually did get picked on. It was a joke about a wife putting up with husbands or something to that extent. The CMs working in there are really good with the one liners. They always think up something with the audience that's always changing, especially on a MNSSHP night!

It was almost time for the party to start which meant kicking out everyone else who didn't have a ticket. I thought maybe we should see how crazy the wait is for a picture with all seven dwarves. The answer I got was:

23uzdlh.jpg

Very crazy!!! I started to feel unprepared. This doesn't happen to an avid DISer. We don't get stuck in long lines or miss out on important things. How did I not think there would be a long line for getting a picture with all seven dwarves?! It was a very "duh!" moment.

And it was after this realization was where everything started going downhill.

Mistake #1: Watch the Villains stage show first

htzolk.jpg

We claimed our seat in front of the castle to see the show and then hopefully get some pictures with them afterwards. Then, I realized getting a picture with a villain would involve moving from our spot. I didn't want to risk not getting a good view of the parade. Already I had mistakenly sat through a show that was good but could have easily skipped it to go do some rides. We waited and waited in that spot for almost 45 minutes until the show started. Then once it was over, we scooted around and took our spot on the curb for the parade. By this point, we were already 90 minutes into the party and had only seen one show with no rides. Something was not right here.

At least I did one thing right. I was ready with camera in hand to take the coveted photo of the Headless Horsemen. I was pumped. I was excited. The Headless Horsemen was coming my way! It was here! I picked up my camera with hands shaking knowing I would only have one chance to get this right. I even took several practice shots in the dark to make sure all the settings were right. Here he comes! Here he comes!

168h5cg.jpg

:faint: Bravo Jen. Bravo.

Through that whole ordeal, I was so focused on getting a good photo that I hardly got a look at him going by until it was too late. A few minutes later the parade started. There was this other family from Michigan who had sat down right behind us. They had two little daughters, one of which had fallen asleep in her mother's lap. People were still trying to get a place for the parade (dude, didn't you know you were supposed to get that spot an hour before the parade started?!) and they were trying to get by the other people (us) sitting on the ground. Well, at one point, one of those people on the ground happened to be the mother and daughter. Some obnoxious person (granted the lighting was poor, but still) stepped right on top of the poor little girl!!! I felt so bad for her. The mother was not impressed! We actually had a very good chat with them… and by them I mean the other daughter who wasn't sleeping. She just LOVED Bubba's costume and asked to get a picture with her. Hmmm, this reminds me of the whole dinner with a celebrity thing. Bubba and the daughter talked and talked and talked until the parade started. As for me, I just sat there mainly concerned with my camera and making sure pictures would come out properly. The result of all my fiddling? Well, I'll let you decide:

Even though the parade was amazing, I still hadn't got the best look at the Headless Horsemen. Oh well, there was always the next parade!

Mistake #2: See the parade twice

I really wanted another chance to see the Headless Horsemen (HH) and enjoy the parade without a camera in front of my face the whole time. Big, big, BIG mistake. Unfortunately for us, this was one of the busier parties, probably due to the fact that it was so close to Halloween. It was on October 26th in case you were wondering, which I know you were. Now that we were going to see the second parade, we had very limited time to do any rides or anything else for that matter. We both agreed that if we were going to get on at least one ride, it would be the Haunted Mansion.

fuaubr.jpg

Which, of course, was the busiest place in the park for MNSSHP. I don't think the wait was terrible. Maybe 15 minutes? The outside of the mansion looked really cool and loved Madame Leota sitting outside. One thing I was really disappointed about was how they've now boarded up the graveyard area that you could see when standing in the queue. I'm assuming this is because of the Fantasyland expansion. I was looking forward to what it'd look like during the party. After the ride we grabbed a Photopass photographer and got ourselves with the spooky coach driver. Or was it the Magical Express driver….

119b34i.jpg

We were going to try to go on other rides but everything had an insane wait time like 30-45 minutes. Since it was getting close to HalloWishes, we decided we better go get a spot near the castle.

Mistake #3: Misjudge the best spot for fireworks

How could I forget this? It's the biggest thing to remember when seeing fireworks at MK. Bubba insisted that we'd be able to see the fireworks even though there was a big tree in front of us. Okay, Bubba. If you say so. Bubba was certain the fireworks would be mostly on the right side of the castle. Unless Bubba doesn't know her right from her left, she was wrong. Oh so very wrong. The fireworks started and all I could see was bright lights shining through the branches. There were people all around me and I couldn't move. It was just a very miserable and upsetting moment.

Mistake #4: Went to MNSSHP so close to Halloween

Due to the insane crowds (where did they all come from?!) we spent the majority of our time waiting for the parade. I know the biggest problem was that I wanted to see it twice. But it was also due to my severe lack of planning. I hadn't really planned out the night at all. I was mainly counting on Bubba since she had done this party before. Only problem was she never had to deal with these crowds. We ended up waiting (again) for the parade for at least 40 minutes. This time we got a spot in Frontierland where I could get a nice long view of HH. I made a promise to myself not be behind my camera and just enjoy the parade. That lasted all but 5 minutes when the HH music started to play. I ended up taking a video of him coming down the road but I didn't really focus on what I was recording. So the video is a bit wonky but all that matters is that I got a decent shot of HH! That was probably the only thing that went right that night! During the parade, Bubba got hit on by the cowboys. We couldn't exactly hear everything he was saying because he kept having to dance while trying to talk to her. I think he was talking about her skin tone and how he had something to clear it up.

After the last parade, Bubba and I did some Trick or Treating and got lots of candy

2ef1bgz.jpg

But by this point Bubba's feet were KILLING her. She said that one of her blisters actually burst so by the end of the night she could barely walk. I know I shouldn't laugh at her pain, but I couldn't stop giggling. It was just too funny seeing a limping Haunted Mansion lady.

We stayed pretty much right up to midnight. We left MK tired, broken, and disappointed (at least I was. I don't think Bubba really cared since she had done it so many times before. Plus she was in a lot of pain and just wanted to go home). I would do MNSHHP again, just not so close to Halloween.

Coming up next....

Two Churros take on TSM
Dinner at Kona Island Sushi Bar
Waiting.....again.

great update even though there were a lot of issues at the party!!

I love your sisters costume! Her and my friend Meghan would have been BFFs at the party but we went on the 24th instead :( I love you wendy! All the nightgowns I could find had long sleves or were wayyy too short for WDW! I'm glad I went with my hula idea and kept the wendy one for the school party!
Glad to read you got tons of candy! We did but I can't tell you where any of it is at the moment, I'm guessing it got tossed around Xmas time haha.

It was very hard to find that nightgown! Plus I had to add the bow around the waist. If I didn't have that, I don't think people would have known who I was. Most of my candy got tossed or melted in the car on our last day

I am so sorry that the party did not work for you as you had hope for! I am planning to be at WDW late October this year and am debating about the MNSHHP. I think I really want to try it, but am afraid of the heavy crowds. I am not so much a show and parade person, so the only thing I would be concerned about would be a good spot for Hallowishes. I guess my favourite spot for Wishes on the bridge between Main Street and the hub would work better than your spot? Otherwise my main plan would be to just enjoy the atmosphere of the MK at night with decorations and costumes...

But I am impressed your your headless horseman picture, I have never seen a pic of him before!! :thumbsup2

How disappointing to not get the experience you were hoping for out of the party. Your costumes were wonderful. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the update, Jen! I love your costumes, especially Bubba's. That's very creative. I'm usually not a shoe person, but I adore yours. The picture of Bambi is breathtaking!

Love, Love, Love the costumes, Jenn!!! Where did Bubba get her dress and hat? She did a fabulous job with that costume! I would sure hate to pack, that, though....LOL!!!

Sorry the party was so frustrating. Wow, I was at WDW part of the time you were. I arrived a couple of days earlier, though. I went to the party on the 24th. I don't think it was quite as crowded as what you described, but you're right, it does get more crowded as it gets closer to Halloween.

I have given up trying to get a good spot for the parade and having to wait a long time before it starts. Invariably, someone will come up and stand in front of me or move in from one side or another so that I still can't see, so I've given up on that part. It just takes too much time from the rest of the party. I know the desire to get a good picture of the HH. I've had really good views, and then just as he is riding down the street someone beside me will move out in front of me, and in a split second, my chance has been blown!! I've gotten some good parade shots sometime by just walking the route on the sidewalk, though, but just due to the number of times I've gone.

I also agree about the HM area. I felt like I was boxed in with the areas being baracaded from the construction. It was a very different feel compared to previous years. It will be good again in two years, though. On the 24th, HM broke down just after we got into the que area and they finally had to hold the lines outside. It took quite a while to get it restarted. TTA also broke down for a couple of hours. Weird!

I think MNNSHP takes more planning than almost any other event because there is so much going on. You almost have to set priorities for what you want to do and see. Can't really do everything in one party.

Great trip report so far!!! I'm really enjoying it!!! Oh, and hey, I'm going back on the first week of March!!!

First, I know you've heard this already...on here and from others during the actual party, but Bubba's costume was AWESOME! Yours was good, but you probably needed someone dressed as Peter Pan for people to get who you were. Where in the world did Bubba find that dress and hat?

Sorry that you the party didn't go as you'd hoped. Yeah, sitting through a show and 2 parades pretty much eliminates most everything else. Oh well.

The bridge between Main Street and the hub is good as long as you don't mind the traffic of people going back and forth not watching the fireworks. I tried watching regular Wishes there once and it got really squishy once the show started. Hopefully during the party it won't be so crowded...unless you go close to Halloween like I did!

But I am impressed your your headless horseman picture, I have never seen a pic of him before!! :thumbsup2

Awww thanks! It wasn't anything like I imagined but I'd have to buy a super duper camera like Glenn's to have any hope of getting a decent picture of a moving object at night!

How disappointing to not get the experience you were hoping for out of the party. Your costumes were wonderful. :thumbsup2

It gives me an excuse to try it again sometime. Thanks about the costumes! I think I was too cheap on mine though

Thanks for the update, Jen! I love your costumes, especially Bubba's. That's very creative. I'm usually not a shoe person, but I adore yours. The picture of Bambi is breathtaking!

Thanks redlight! Gotta love Sketchers shoes :thumbsup2 The Bambi picture definitely took my breath away when I saw it!

Love, Love, Love the costumes, Jenn!!! Where did Bubba get her dress and hat? She did a fabulous job with that costume! I would sure hate to pack, that, though....LOL!!!

I think Bubba got her costume two years ago at a Halloween outlet store near Disney. All she had to add was the face make up. It was a challenge to pack. The wire inside the hat actually broke so it looked a bit droopy by the end of the night. That combined with her limp, she looked hilarious!

Sorry the party was so frustrating. Wow, I was at WDW part of the time you were. I arrived a couple of days earlier, though. I went to the party on the 24th. I don't think it was quite as crowded as what you described, but you're right, it does get more crowded as it gets closer to Halloween.

I'm wishing I had gone to the 24th party but that would have meant it would've been on our first night. I did that for MVMCP and it was like a whirlwind tour. By the end of the trip I had almost forgotten the experience! Too bad we didn't meet up!

I have given up trying to get a good spot for the parade and having to wait a long time before it starts. Invariably, someone will come up and stand in front of me or move in from one side or another so that I still can't see, so I've given up on that part. It just takes too much time from the rest of the party.

You're so right! In fact, waiting for parades or fireworks any time takes up a lot of time. And after waiting over 45 min to an hour, people still get in front of you! It's just not worth it... Maybe when I go in July I'll try to be a bit more chillaxed about the whole thing. We'll see how that goes...

Sounds like your a frequent party guest! The good thing is that there are tons of Disney podcasts that cover the event and they've got great videos/pictures of the HH. I love the horse. The person riding it must get sore legs though riding such a big horse!

I also agree about the HM area. I felt like I was boxed in with the areas being baracaded from the construction. It was a very different feel compared to previous years. Yikes! I can't imagine HM breaking down during MNSSHP. If that had happened to me that night, I would've cried right then and there!

I think MNNSHP takes more planning than almost any other event because there is so much going on. You almost have to set priorities for what you want to do and see. Can't really do everything in one party.

There really is a lot going on. Even more so than MVMCP. With that party, I was able to see most everything I wanted and the crowds were practically non-existent. I never knew time went by so fast until I went to MNSSHP!

Great trip report so far!!! I'm really enjoying it!!! Oh, and hey, I'm going back on the first week of March!!!

Wow! You're so lucky! Where are you staying? Any PTR started???

First, I know you've heard this already...on here and from others during the actual party, but Bubba's costume was AWESOME! Yours was good, but you probably needed someone dressed as Peter Pan for people to get who you were. Where in the world did Bubba find that dress and hat?

Yeah I know. My costume was a bit of a dud. Next time I'll spend the $$$ and get a decent costume. I wasn't about force Bubba to dress like Peter Pan though  Bubba found her costume at a Halloween costume outlet store near where she lived in Disney. I think she paid around $50-$60 for it. Although, it wasn't the best to wear in the heat!

Sorry that you the party didn't go as you'd hoped. Yeah, sitting through a show and 2 parades pretty much eliminates most everything else. Oh well.

Oh well is right. There's always next time....and you can be sure there will be a next time!

There really is a lot going on. Even more so than MVMCP. With that party, I was able to see most everything I wanted and the crowds were practically non-existent. I never knew time went by so fast until I went to MNSSHP!

There is a LOT more going on at MNSSHP than MVMCP!! They keep getting rid of more and more entertainment and activities at MVMCP. After this year's MVMCP, I won't be going back to that anymore unless they put back some of the activities. It was disappointing. I hope they don't do that to MNSSHP.

Wow! You're so lucky! Where are you staying? Any PTR started???

I'm going down a few days earlier to visit my mother where she lives in south Florida and couldn't pass up being so close to WDW (well 225 miles!). So, I'm flying up on Southwest for a few days and then from there, back home. Staying at Boardwalk.

I haven't done trip reports or pre-trip reports.....Afraid no one would read them.....LOL!!!

Wow, that is quite the number of issues with the Halloween party. I can tell you that it looked like it was pretty packed in September when we were there as well.

The costumes are awesome! :thumbsup2 And you two have officially become the champions of Space Mountain ride photos. I'm impressed that Bubba could keep her hat. As for your expression--did Disney install some mind control technology on that ride? Do you know if any unnatural thoughts were implanted into your head? Did you feel a sudden urge to visit a gift shop? :rotfl2:

Do you know if any unnatural thoughts were implanted into your head?

I'm sure plenty of unnatural thoughts were in there....I doubt they were implanted.

But the Captain raises a good point: your SM picture was awesome! I meant to comment on that but forgot once I got to typin'.

Great update Jen. Although I was a tad disappointed there weren't any thumbs up pics. Loved your costumes, Bubba's was really cool and yours was very sweet! Peter Pan is one of my favorite Disney movies from when I was a child. You did look a lot like Wendy, good job! And cute shoes too!:thumbsup2

I was sorry to read that your MNSSHP wasn't too great. But your Space Mountain pic was really cool. And at least you got to see the parade twice, it is an awesome parade.:goodvibes But poor Bubba, limping her way through the party!

I can feel your pain though. When we went last Oct. I was soooo excited. We were there about an hour, had ridden several rides and just seen the parade (my pics were so crappy:sad2:). Then my father in law said he was done and it was time to go. Granted it was insanely humid the night we went but oh, the disappointment! I literally was dragging my feet as we left, I was such a sourpuss! We hurriedly did some trick or treating on the way out and I snapped pics like a mad women trying to take it all in!

Hopefully things turned around for you guys the next day!:goodvibes

I was so overwhelmed at MNSSHP. Now I know why!!! I completely understand why you wouldn't be doing another MVMCP when compared to MNSSHP.

I'm going down a few days earlier to visit my mother where she lives in south Florida and couldn't pass up being so close to WDW (well 225 miles!). So, I'm flying up on Southwest for a few days and then from there, back home. Staying at Boardwalk.

Well of course! I wouldn't pass it up either. Boardwalk, very nice. I hope you have a fabulous time (I know you will)

I haven't done trip reports or pre-trip reports.....Afraid no one would read them.....LOL!!!

Never be afraid! There's lots of friendly folks on here. I can guarantee I'd be a reader :goodvibes

Wow, that is quite the number of issues with the Halloween party. I can tell you that it looked like it was pretty packed in September when we were there as well.

From what YodasMom was saying, MNSSHP seems to have lots more to do compared to MVMCP. Perhaps that's why it's so packed. It's a good opportunity for us adults to dress in costume so I can see why it's so popular.

The costumes are awesome! :thumbsup2

Thanks!

Wow! I like that. "Official champions of Space Mountain ride photos" Do I get a trophy??? It's one of the easiest and clearest ride photos to make a silly pose. Wait...hold on....I'm feeling suddenly.....weird.... Must...buy...latest...Mickey... t-shirt....

I'm sure plenty of unnatural thoughts were in there....I doubt they were implanted.

HEY!

But the Captain raises a good point: your SM picture was awesome! I meant to comment on that but forgot once I got to typin'.

All is forgiven now that you've mentioned it.

Great update Jen. Although I was a tad disappointed there weren't any thumbs up pics.

Aw I'm sorry. I'm sure I'll make it up to you later.

Loved your costumes, Bubba's was really cool and yours was very sweet! Peter Pan is one of my favorite Disney movies from when I was a child. You did look a lot like Wendy, good job! And cute shoes too!:thumbsup2

Thanks! Some people thought I was Alice from Alice in Wonderland. I guess they are pretty similar but still... I was a tad disappointed not many people knew who I was. Wendy definitely isn't as popular as say Ariel or Belle or Tinkerbell.

I was sorry to read that your MNSSHP wasn't too great. But your Space Mountain pic was really cool. And at least you got to see the parade twice, it is an awesome parade.:goodvibes But poor Bubba, limping her way through the party!

I loved the parade. My favourite part is when the gravediggers twirl around with their shovels and make sparks. Really cool! I felt so bad for Bubba but couldn't help laughing because of how she looked. :rotfl: I can say she was VERY relieved to get into bed that night.

I can feel your pain though. When we went last Oct. I was soooo excited. We were there about an hour, had ridden several rides and just seen the parade (my pics were so crappy:sad2:). That really stinks! So sorry to hear that your party experience was cut short. I'd be totally bummed. Will you ever try it again if given the chance? Who did you dress up as that day?

Hopefully things turned around for you guys the next day!:goodvibes

You'll have to wait and see

Your costumes were great! I'm sorry that your night didn't go as planned. I can imagine that the closer you get to halloween, the more crowded it gets. The only time I've even gone to MNSSHP was quite a few years ago, and I believe it was one of the first years they started doing it. That was nice, because there really weren't many people there.

The word gets out quick on the best Disney offers. If I were to do this again, I'd tried to find a low attendance night. Although there must be a lot of locals coming in too. Oh well. Next time I'll just manage my time better!

Looks like Bubba can keep her hat on better than her shirt- almost. :lmao: comparing this one to the last.... :rotfl2:

Anyhow, your costumes are super! Where on earth did she find that get up?? Your shoes are more than adorable- I can see wearing a set of togs like that to our ECD nights.

Such a shame that your night didn't go well! Honestly, Jen, I don't know if any better planning would have helped. There seemed to be so many people that even you had planned better, they crowds may have thwarted you. :confused3

I wish I knew because I want to go there to get my next costume. Apparently it's at some Halloween costume outlet store near Disney. Of course Bubba can't remember exactly where it is  Those shoes are great! Made by Sketchers. I can wear them without socks and never get blisters. It's great!

You're probably right. Darn you crowds! *shakes fist*

Nope, no PTR, I'm not that cool.;) I'm thinking of doing a TR though when I get back. From what I hear about Marv, I can basically write only 1 update a month and people will still come to read!
Just goes to show you can't believe everything you hear....... :rolleyes1
Hmmm, peoplewill bug you to update? Nah, I've never done that on anyone's TR...:rolleyes1
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Not you! Never!!!

That has to be one of the, uh, most unique Space Mountain ride pictures I've seen!!! :rolleyes1 I can't believe how scared Bubba got........ :rotfl:
Here's a bit better look at our makeup with costumes

294rpfr.jpg
OUR makeup??? Looks like you should have shared some of yours with Bubba!!! She was looking kinda pale....... ;)

Sorry you had so many "challenges" at the party!!! Looks like it could be a lot of fun though!

I think she was trying to scare the camera

Very funny Marv!

It was fun. I'm glad I got to see the parade. That was THE one thing I had to see at the party. Everything else was a bonus. Just wish there was more we got to do.

I thought you took some great pics of the parade. I'm sorry the night didn't turn out that good.
Both of your costumes rocked though!

During the parade, Bubba got hit on by the cowboys. We couldn't exactly hear everything he was saying because he kept having to dance while trying to talk to her. I think he was talking about her skin tone and how he had something to clear it up.
