Help!! We are BC lovers, but for our stay there is only pool view available, and DH doesn't want to spend the extra $ for view, so we chose garden view at YC.
My concern is that we will not have the convenience to Marketplace.
We like to grab breakfast here or even dinner sometimes when we are on the go. With 4 kids, there have also been a handful of times where one of us has had to run downstairs to grab something. Is it a big inconvenience being at the YC and further away from the Marketplace??

Hello! Fellow BC fan here! We stayed at YC last year - just to give it a try after so many years at BC. We really loved YC - Dee posted my comparison between YC and BC on the first page of this thread, in case that's helpful.

In any event, I'd say it takes about 5 minutes to get from the YC lobby to the BC lobby, using the route that "hugs" the resort and passes by B&C. If we stay at YC again, I'd definitely request "close to lobby" so that it's easier to access BC Marketplace. But if your room isn't close to the lobby, check out the "YC secret entrance" on the first page of this thread - we used it a ton and it made getting to and fro BC and YC very easy!

It's official! I'm coming back in 2014! My girlfriends and I will be staying at YC for the Princess Half Marathon. We are staying LV from 2/20-2/25. I'm hoping to switch to a CL room once the discounts are released.

You'll see me dragging my tired behind into the hot tub at SAB after running the 13.1 miles of the PHM. Whoever took Johnny Depp (I'm looking at you Nannette!) better return him before February!

This will be my first half marathon and what better place to do it than at Disney. Everything's better at WDW so maybe 13.1 miles will seem more like 3.1 at home! Wishful thinking!

I'm thinking of getting a t-shirt made that reads "will run for a Grey Goose Slushie!"

Couchy, I hope they lock that jerk up for years! Whoever hits my BC friend then yells at her deserves more than a misdemeanor!

To those of you worried about the distance from your rooms to Marketplace I can only say this YC/BC are smaller than a lot of the value resorts and the moderates just allow a little walking in you day and you will be fine. You can walk further at an AllStar resort room to the food court than the distances here.

So is there a special request I can make in the garden view room category? Room closest to BC??

Defo request room closest to Lobby. We had a Gazebo view room last year, just a matter of steps beyond the lobby elevators. The one time we wandered deeper into the hotel to get to the quiet pool and laundry we were pleased we were not that far away from the lobby!

. When we arrive at the YC (CL), will the greeters have someone bring us upstairs or do we wait downstairs until they have our room ready (not sure how the CL check in works)? Or should I just park the car and check in first, then bring DS upstairs if the room is ready? First time we are staying deluxe. I hope I am making sense, just so exhausted and trying to keep this a surprise for DS
Yes DisneyEsther. Unless they are extremely busy upstairs someone will escort you on up. If the lounge is open you can come in and relax.

The way we do it is I pull up to the front entrance, unload the luggage with bell services and I go park the car. DW and other family (if along) wait in the main lobby for me and we proceed upstairs. Once they had been escorted on up and I joined them.

Another tidbit. If you are not greeted as a CL guest do tell one of the greeters that you are checking in CL. They will handle the rest.

Please don't take this is critical, it's just a funny observation that describes me as well- it just cracks me up that I will drag my family all day through multiple parks to secure FP and make an ADR but I try with all my might to get a room close to the lobby to save a few steps. :rotfl2:

I also drive back and forth at the mall to get a close spot and then walk forever once I get in the mall. You should see me look for a spot at the gym- then go inside and work out for an hour :confused3

Any chance the Patisserie in France opens before 9AM?

Epcot day today and want to get a bite there before Soarin'

Heard the family next to us yelling at 11:30PM. First peep we have heard

I think our room is as far from the lobby/elevator as it is from France to Mexico in WS

We usually stay at the BC but one time we were bumped over to the YC. I will admit that we found it inconvenient to add that extra walk to the Marketplace after being spoiled by being close to it for all those other trips. But as someone else said, the resort complex is relatively compact and the walk to the Marketplace is probably shorter than the walk to a food court at a moderate or value. And I think it is much shorter than the walk from the Tahiti building at the Poly to the GH. ;)

You'll have a guaranteed balcony at YC, which is a plus to that resort. And it is closer to the boat dock and HS. And if you are really worried about it, you can check for a room opening at the BC. Rooms open up all the time. :goodvibes

Between packing and taking care of DD who is teething and having bad allergies, my brain is malfunctioning :sad1: I just have a quick question. When we arrive at the YC (CL), will the greeters have someone bring us upstairs or do we wait downstairs until they have our room ready (not sure how the CL check in works)? We kept it a surprise for our sons too -- we had stayed CL before and said we weren't doing it this trip. We were met at the bus by a surprisingly unfriendly greeter (she spoke to us once the whole way up), which helped us keep it a surprise from the 11 year old until she scanned her card in the elevator and then he knew. My 8 year old can be charmingly oblivious, and he had to be told! :goodvibes If you want it to be a surprise until you get upstairs, I'm sure you could call and ask for them to make a note for your greeter to not talk about it. Even if the room isn't ready, come up and get a snack (or two).

Got it!!!

:woohoo:

I'm not a runner, so I haven't paid attention to the Disney World marathons.

Is the Princess Marathon in Feb? What is the one in January? Is that Everest? The one in Oct is ToT?

UGGHHHH.... Bad news. Very bad news. No SAB for me, no BC for me:(
I was hit by a car while walking my dogs today. Me and the pups were quietly minding our own business and crossing the street in the crosswalk with the signal when a car came roaring down the street and turned right, right into me:furious::scared:
I am resting comfortably in my hospital bed in my highly fashionable hospital gown. I have 2 broken ribs, multiple gashes and abrasions, and a deep bone bruise on my femur. The puppies are thankfully fine, but DH called and cancelled our reservation :sad1:

We did reschedule 10/31-11/3 BC GV but I am still so disappointed. I was so looking forward to this trip. Oh well, it was one of those days...

I will now start planning for our Food and Wine trip :goodvibes

So sorry to hear! Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Maybe a visit to see Princess Olivia will help! :)

On our last day and on our way to Cape May we got to meet Teena and Princess Lilly! :) what a cutie. Teena it was nice to meet you and talk to you for a few minutes.

The Princess Half is in February. The WDW Marathon is in January. There is a a half marathon on Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday. If you run both, you get an extra Goofy medal for a grand total of three medals. I have a friend who does it every year.....she's crazy, I mean Goofy! New this year is a Dopey challenge...if you run the 5K on Thursday, 10K on Friday, half marathon on Saturday AND the full marathon on Sunday, you will receive six medals....one for each of the races plus a Goofy medal and a Dopey medal. If I did all of that, I would be dead!

Expedition Everest 5K with obstacles is in May and the ToT 10 mile is in October. The ever popular F&W half marathon is in November.

I am not a runner. I've done an 8K thru downtown Chicago several times but that's the extent of my running. This is going to be a challenge...both mentally and physically. I've said for years that the only half marathon I would run would be the Princess at WDW. When my friend said she had signed up, I gave it some serious thought and I'm going for it! We'll be the five middle-aged sorority sisters chanting and doing our secret handshake as we run walk thru YC! Ha ha ha. Just kidding!

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek: I just now saw this, bless your heart!!!!!!!!!!!!:hug::hug: I hope you get a settlement from that crazy bad driver enough to pay for your WDW trip! What an insane thing to happen!! Thank goodness you're ok and the doggies are ok :dog2::dog2::dog2: I was in a pretty bad car wreck last December with a deep bone bruise on my left leg and it is still there. :( Those are very painful. I hope you are resting and recouping now and feeling better.

Thank you! This gives me a better idea of what to do :)

Thank you :) I will definitely call and make a note about the surprise. It has been hard not to spoil the surprise and can't believe that we have made it this far :bitelip: I am not sure if my DS will notice until we go upstairs. He is just excited about the YC (he picked it out) and can't believe we are actually going :cool1:

The testing is based solely on check in date and resort chosen to participate according to the letter. Nothing to do with tickets. I got my letter today, 17 days from check in. Just like it's been reported on the boards. No UPS letter, just an email. I had already discovered the Magic Bands in my MDE account and customized them, I already received them via UPS and already booked my FP+ 2 weeks ago. Keep checking your MDE account for something if you are staying at a participating resort.

Where was it on the MDE?
