Sooooooo.....
Our family is beginning to plan a July '08 WDW vacation to celebrate DD's birthday... She wants to go to the Disney Water Parks.

It's hard for me to get excited because we just had THE BEST EVER, 1ST time trip to DLR, and I LOVED IT!!!

Since we've been to WDW many times, I'm not excited about the heat, humidity, and crowds in Florida in July!

I know, I know, don't scold me!....Gracious! it's a Disney vacation BUT
I WANNA GO BACK TO DISNEYLAND!!!!!!

I'm with you on that July part... Central FL is awful in July and August!! No thanks.

LOL- and I feel that way about DLR! We go there way too often and I'd much prefer WDW :) Of course, I've never been in the summer heat- LOL!

We went to WDW in July several years ago, never again. The heat 98 degrees and the humidity 92% was unbearable!!! The trip was miserable! When we stepped outside our hotel, our glasses fogged up! That didn't happen just during the heat of the day, it even happened on the day we left at 4:00am!
Can you convince the rest in your party that DL would be much more tolerable, heatwise. WDW is so huge coupled with the heat and crowds, you may not have as good a time as first thought. FYI!

The last four years we have gone to Disney World in July or August. Yes, it is hot, but we really enjoy it then. We take really long breaks in the afternoon and swim. The kids love it because Mom & Dad are always in the water with them. In my opinion that is the best time to do the water parks, since it is so hot, there is no need to have a towel with you!! We drop everything in a locker and don't need to come back to the locker for hours!!

Having said all that, we have never been to Disneyland, but are going this August, so I can't give an opinion on that....yet!!

I went to WDW last in August and I didn't think the heat was that bad. What I am with you on is how in love I am with DL than WDW.

Granted, I have a lot of wonderful memories at DL and pretty much grew up there when we lived in SoCal, but I think Disneyland does it better.

First, the theming: I've never been to MK or AK, but as far as Epcot (which was better) and MGM (or DisneyStudios now), I felt that the theming just wasn't there. It seemed BIGGER, but there was also a lot of blank space in my opinions.

Second, the walking: Is it just me or do the rides take longer to walk to one from the other than at DLR. Also, it was near impossible for us to figure out how to get from one park to the other making "park hopping" a lot harder than at DLR.

Third, the attractions: I didn't think there were as many attractions per park as there is at DL (and even DCA, but less so). I just remember riding TOT, RRC, ST, GMR and B&B show, being bored and really not anything else catching my interest. Whereas at DL, I was NEVER bored.

DL seems endearing and I am not trying to offend WDW because it has it's own charm (someday when I have more money I'd love to stay at the Grand Floridian and go to the MK), but IMO nothing can compare to the original.

Oh I am so jealous! I am dreaming of going back to WDW! But not in JULY! If you can try and switch to the end of August or early September- they just released free dining!

it is hot in july BUT you will be going to the water parks which are awesome! we always do everything in the mornings and go back to the resort and swim. i will be going to your favorite (DL) in june and i'm looking forward to the weather in cali. we have the same weather as wdw. i'm going back to wdw for the free dining when it is the hottest but i will be indoors eating all that free food.
have fun

I would try to switch to Disneyland. There are water parks in Cali too. ;) Like, knotts berry and others. It's not humid so you can enjoy yourself more. Plus at WDW there is way too much walking.:scared:

I've been to WDW in August a couple of times, the heat is just brutal and exhausting and it rains every day in the afternoon.

what we really need is for Sea world to build an aquatica and Discovery cove in San Diego...then you could do a perfect 7-10 day trip.

This is a good point - BUT - with all of that humidity, you never actually dry off when you get out of the pool or the water rides! :rotfl2:

Here in IN it gets humid too - but not as bad as FL. Any time it comes up that I need to go to FL on business in the summer - I always beg out of it. Twice was enough for me!

Ugh, I don't blame you! I've never been to WDW in the actual summer. We went one year in May and it was miserable. It might have been warmer then it was supposed to be for that time of year, but the humidity was high and it was over 90 each day!!

If it was that bad in May, I cannot fathom how bad it would be in July. :scared1: :scared:

I have to take my hats off to people who can travel to FL during the summer months, (or even live there!) because I just couldn't handle it. :sad2:

I've been to WDW in July, August, and September and to me September was the worst with the heat the others were actually not bad, for crowds, july and August were worse. I can't compare Disneyland to Disney World yet though, I will be able too July 11th though, going for the first time before my Disney Cruise :goodvibes

I love Disney and haven't been to DL for 15 years, but I am going this week. I try to avoid WDW in the summer months at all costs! Maybe a trip to the beach would peak your daughters interest. Maybe surfing lessons? That is one nice thing about DL - it is sooo close to the ocean. Maybe a side trip to Malibu, Newport Beach or Venice or ??? would substitute for the water parks.

I like DL much better than WDW. There are some things there: the TOT is much better, Big thunder seems like more fun, and Everest. But- the whole getting around there is too much work. It takes an hour to get from one park to the next! :scared1: DL wins by far for me!

I LOVE YOU PEOPLE!!!!
You completely understand!
We've always avoided WDW during the summer...always taking the children out of school and going in Jan or Oct, (when the crowds are low and the weather tolerable) but now that they are older their schedules dictate, so we will join the masses...the hot, sweaty, stinky masses! Thankfully, we'll have the opportunity to wash it all off in the WaterParks....that is IF they don't close because they've reached maximum capacity!!!!:scared1:

I wanna go back to DISNEYLAND!!!!!!

I totally am with ya. I love WDW- but went in May ONCE. I thought I was going to die. I'm sure it was unseasonably warm, but the humidity was killin' me. I said never again!! Our next trip was in November which was absolutely perfect, weather-wise. So we're gambling on terrific weather again and heading back this November.

Park hopping is something I LOVE to do at DL, and I find the waits for buses so frustrating at WDW. I am impatient, I know...;) To me, that's the biggest drawback- transportation. I hate waiting for buses and then sometimes not even getting on from your resort stop. I guess being from Cali I don't plan a long enough travel time in getting from resort to park to another park...

The WDW water parks are far superior to the Calif water parks, so I can understand the kids wanting to go to the water parks. That said, I feel the summer heat and crowds, we were there last August. I know how you feel about DLR. In fact, the week we were at WDW, we only went to the MK on night to watch the fireworks and then watched them another night on the POLY beach. It's gonna be hard but get to the water parks before noon and you'll be fine. We'll be there in the August heat again this year. I know, I know...but 2 families have DLR APs and the NoCal family hasn't been to WDW yet.
