.....that we don't go anywhere! Today we went to the North American Auto Show in Detroit, then we went to lunch at Greektown & after paying for parking, tokens for the People Mover (tram systems that goes around the city stopping at different points of interest), tickets to enter the Auto Show, then lunch in Greektown, it was $100 for a few hours of entertainment for the 4 of us. :faint:

How do people do it these days to have a little entertainment in their lives with the price of everything? :confused3

I agree everything is getting so expensive. To go to the movies is a small fortune these days! I am a home bud, and enjoy staying home. My entertainment is going to WDW. :cool1:

We find plenty of free or inexpensive things to get out and do. I have days that I want to get out, but also days I enjoy just staying at home. Today for examle, watching the Panthers beat the Bears. Fabulous at home entertainment. :teeth:

Just out of curiosity, where did you eat in Greektown? I've been out of Detroit for 10 years now and I really really miss Pizza Papalis. That some GOOOODDDD pizza! ::yes::

We always eat at Pegasus when we go to Greektown (which is only about once per year or less). That place holds special memories for us because we had our rehearsal dinner there about 12 years ago! We also eat at Hella's once in a great while if we can't get into Pegasus but that is our #1 choice. Never been to Pizza Papalis. I'll have to try it someday...where is it? Also, whereabouts in Detroit were you from?

One way we do it is to work for the place you want to be entertained by!

Glad you all had a good time.

Best wishes

Very, very cute! Unfortunately, there is nothing that entertaining here in Detroit!! ;)

So how was the Auto SHow?? I've heard the one is Detroit is fun as that's where a lot of concept cars are shown for the first time...

It was really cool to see some of those concept cars. Just amazes me at what those talented Engineers can create! But the show was sooooo crowded that it was bumper to bumper people & with 2 kids it wasn't as much fun getting around as it would have been if my DH & I had gone alone.

Also, Jeep had quite a creative "stage" set up. The jeeps were staged on huge boulders (one wheel) but you could still climb in & they also had water fountains staged around their cars....pretty cool.

It was a fun thing to do since my DH & kids had never been but at $12 per person to be allowed entry to a giant car showroom I thought was a bit much. My 10 y/0 cost $5 & my 4 y/o was free. If you parked nearby, it was $20 for parking. Next time, we'll just drive around the different area dealerships & enjoy ourselves for free! (No concept cars though!)

One more thing that I forgot to mention was seeing lots of Japanese people & they were almost all wearing those face masks (like surgeons wear). Not such a bad idea being that it's flu season but I would be worried about my hands too. Why not wear gloves of some sort if you're going as far as wearing a mask? :confused3

It sounds like it was the auto show and parking that really wiped you out! Wow.

We manage to do things and not break the bank. You have to hit matinees and stay away from shows like the auto show though.

Tell me about it!! We are a family of 6 with one income. For me just going to McDonalds is a treat!!! And even that is getting to be too rich for my blood! :teeth:

That's just it....we never go anywhere for entertainment in town. All my DS's friends are always talking about where they went over the weekend & my DS never gets to go to those places or even the movies (we see whatever when it comes out on DVD.) People who go out all the time (like one of my neighbors) made it sound like it was a cheap outing! Of course, they are both professionals so their income must be much greater than ours or they have a mountain of debt. I did tell a friend of mine (who is pretty much in the same boat as us) that we had fun but not to the tune of $100 worth. Oh well....live & learn!!

That is too dangerous ~ I've heard of people getting "ticks" that way! ;)
