Hi everyone. I need some advice from all you dieters! Where do I start?!

Age: 24
Height: 5.0"
Weight: 115lbs

Now, I know everyone is probably wondering what I'm complaining about. 115lbs isn't a lot. But, it is when you're short and have never weighed more than at least 100lbs all of your life! I just don't know what to do about it though. I have never been on a diet & have never exercised. I don't even know how to begin. I am a VERY picky eater. The only kind of fruit I like are bananas. The only vegetables I like are corn & green beans, sometimes carrots but they have to be cooked. If I eat a salad it consists of lettuce, egg, croutons, & either ranch or itallian dressing. Other foods I generally eat are chicken, steak, pasta, potatoes, chinese, soup, etc. I basically don't eat anything healthy. When I do eat though, especially dinner, I eat a lot. I have always been a big eater (never gaining a pound though, till recently!) The good thing is that I hardly ever snack. I'm usually not that hungry at night.

Anyway. I don't know what to do. I need to do something. My clothes don't fit anymore. The weight is all going to my thighs, hips, butt, & gut. Do I just need to exercise? Watch what I eat? Lessen my portions? I'm lost. This is all new to me. I did join a gym, Lucille Roberts, a year ago, but haven't been since then. I still pay for it though! So, anyone have any pointers? I'll appreciate anything. Thank You! :flower:

 i congratulate you on catching your weight gain while you aree still young :cheer2:

i was 23 yrs old 5'9" weighing 123lbs i woke up one day last year at 39 weighing 183lbs- :earseek:
literally that is how it feels to me!!!

since last year i have tried weight watchers , dr phil , atkins, walking , walk away the pounds- and i'm happy to say i started 2005- 10lbs lighter than last year.

i've decided to not follow a set diet plan this year- i'm trying to make a lifestyle change and find out what works best for me.

i have trackin my food, exercize, weight and goals on fitday.com - its a wonderfall site and it has been an eye opening experience :3dglasses
track what you eat for a few days- and see where you are in caloreis and nutrition intake is

find what you like to do as exercize and stick to it-
for me i love to walk- and also i like low impact aerobics that i can do fro the comfort of my home. a gym membership for me would be like throwing money away!!

and look at some of the challanges on this board- i'm presently doing the jan exercize and loose 5 lbs in jan challnge- they are very motivating!!! :Pinkbounc

goodluck and hope you find the program that works best for you

Hi

You are so good to realize that you need to address the weight issue now :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I am 5'1" and weigh 170lbs. The weight has crept on over 25 years and now it is a battle to get is off. Like carrying around a side of beef and believe it is not fun!!

I also am making 2005 a customized year - smaller portion sizes, not eating after 7:30 at night and most important EXERCISE :Pinkbounc :jumping4: :Pinkbounc . I personally think those are 3 huge contributions towards a healthier body.

Good Luck and know that you have lots of support around here. We are all in this together. :grouphug:

Have a Magical Disney Day!! :earboy2:

I would suggest definitely starting out with the exercise. Try just that, and maybe making your portions a little smaller...and see what kind of loss you get. If you have minimal or no loss after putting out a good effort with the exercise, I think you might see that you are more apt to trying new foods (low cal or whatever) in order to see a loss.

Good luck! I am also one of those who doesn't have a lot of weight to lose, but needs to lose about 10 pounds to feel a whole lot better about myself.

Exercise and portion control, but I would even bet with the exercise you wouldn't have to worry too much about portion control. Sounds like you may just need to ramp up your metabolism.

Thank you so much everyone for your advice. I will definately take everything into consideration. The first thing I am going to do is start exercising and eating smaller portions. Hopefully that will work! Thanks again for your help. I'll keep you posted! :flower1:
