I've also had massive inlaw challenges, but I'll share a happy ending. SMIL really has been difficult on me. Said if we did the WDW wedding nobody in DHs family would attend because it was stupid. Asked DH (when we called to say we were engaged) "why would you do something like that?" and when we shared our excitement (many years later) about a grandchild coming asked why we haven't figured out how to prevent that. But our 10th anniversary was on 12/6. And they sent a nice card. And we've now had 2 really nice holidays with them. I'll joke a little that it is because I have a margarita or two before they come, but reality is she realizes that I'm here to stay.
DH and I in our Evenings for the Engaged talked about parent issues. We committed to each other they would NEVER get between our relationship. They have not so far, and I don't expect that to change. I'm looking forward to many more, very happy years. Surrounded by both of our families.
