So I stupidly thought I was getting a good deal when I bought half-board vouchers for our trip next month. NOT THE CASE. I did the math:

We paid 124 pounds for 2 adults/2 children for 2 days of vouchers. When I looked at the restaurants we can use them, this is what I found. For eating at the Cheyenne Hotel, it would cost us around 61 euro, which today is about 53 pounds. That is the voucher value for our family, 61 euro, which time 2 days, equals around 106 pounds. We paid 124 pounds.

When I called Disney, my offer??? To cancel the half-board but with a 35% penalty fee. Oh, I was also asked if I included gratiuty. Am I supposed to leave a 10 pound tip per meal at a buffet service?

So, my only other option is to email disney.

so sorry that happened to you. the vouchers are very rarely reccomended on here.

So, assuming we are stuck with the vouchers, what would be our best bet?

We will be in the park for 2 1/2 days. My original plan was dinner at the Cheyenne Hotel first night (HB vouchers), late lunch at Walts 2nd night, and lunch at Agrabah the 3rd day. Can't decide how to use the vouchers though since we will only have 2 per person, but I want to eat at all 3 places.

At Walts, we have a reservation at 3:30 pm to hopefully catch the 4pm (or is it 5 pm) parade (Christmas season), but will still have the lunch menu hopefully. So, wouldn't the HB standard cover the set lunch menu price they have offered? I am not sure how using HB standard will work for Walts for the lunch menu since they will not be serving dinner while we are there. Can we use the vouchers at their value at Walts? I have read both yes and no.

Then Agrabah we would just pay on our own.

Just had a look at the Walts review thread, the 19.95 euro lunch menu looks like its available up to 4pm, so that should be okay. If you're using your vouchers at face value, I should think you'll be able to use them to cover some of your bill at Walts

They allowed a 3:30 reservation, and they don't serve dinner that day, so how can they offer a dinner menu?

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse you, I went to check on the times for the lunch menu after I posted first :rolleyes1.

Oh no apologies needed! There seems to be so many different experiences that you never know what to expect. ;)

Looking at the Walts review thread, it does look like they offer the standard a la carte menu at lunchtime as well as the Express lunch menu option.
As you're doing Walts before the Agrabah Cafe, if for any reason your vouchers are refused at Walts, you'll definitely be able to use them at the Agrabah Cafe in full (ie not at face value) so either way you won't be losing out (the cost of each restaurant on the lunch menu appears to be roughly the same).

the menus are the same regardless of when you eat there. when the park closes at 7pm the restaurants will close earlier than this. a few weeks back i had the express menu in walts at my 3.30 reservation. it is 19.95 but doesnt include a drink. im not sure how much your voucher is worth, if you had to pay anything it would be minimal

back in 2008 when we went the vouchers were a good deal. they were about £17-£18 each for the middle of the three vouchers which had a 25 euro face value, or could be exchanged for set menus.

This time when I booked they wanted £25 sterling a voucher. for a 5 day 4 night trip it added something like £330 to our holiday. Knowing what sort of food we ate before we knew we could do things cheaper than the vouchers. Its fine if you happen to know you'll want the set menus and want 3 courses every night but that isnt us. Its a shame as the vouchers are no longer an attractive option. but ah well :)

2008 was the last time we used the vouchers as well, you're right, half board plus (not standard) was £17 per adult per night, and £8 per child per night. Considering the actual prices in euros at the resort for meals has stayed pretty constant or even come down in price since then, the current rates for the vouchers have no attraction for me.
