Don't buy Disney Snow Globes

Don't waste your money on Disney snow globes. I use to collect these and have about 20 of them. Several years back I noticed they started getting bubbles in them so I stopped buying them. All 20 of them now have large bubbles in them so I emailed the disney store and walt disney world. They said they would only replace the ones purchased within a year and with a receipt. All of mine had music boxes in them, that are now rusted. I opened one up and it's a seal problem, the glue they used for the seal didn't touch the whole bottom, it was a poor seal job, therefore they leaked the water into the base. I'm rather bummed they are ruined. They still have the price tags on them from $40 to $120..... I'd stick to just the music boxes.....

I know some repair shops will fix them, just bummed they didn't hold up with the prices I paid for them.....

just a heads up.

Thanks for the heads up. :( I'm sorry that happened. I love snow globes and have a few myself. I won't be getting any more. It was nice of you to pass that information along. I've been very tempted to get more snow globes but I guess the cost and transporting them home kept me from buying. You've given me the best reason of all.

I like music boxes too. :)

I have several snowglobes going back as far as ten years ago and they are all fine... They have been sitting in my curio cabinet except for when I moved 4 years ago. I would be bummed if they got ruined.. they were gifts from my DD, deseased dad, etc.
I wonder if weather/humidity plays a part in it...

Umm, Disney has known about the evaporation problem with the snow globes for a long time....... have you noticed, they began to design them with a little doodad on the top? Not on all of them, but on many of them they started doing that.

Disneystores used to take them back, when they had that kooky return anything anytime policy. That policy was too easily exploited.

We were told (unofficially) it was a problem if there was any air in them at all, that it would get bigger over time. But, we were not allowed to "damage them out" unless the bubble was bigger than a dime. We would try and open and check them however, and find guests "good ones".

I never bought the snowlobes. (I was a CM for 5 years in a busy TDS)

I had a Disney Snow Globe that grew algae in it!!!! How nasty is that, and it wasn't even in direct sun light.

yep yep yep... I remember those days.. looking for a snow globe that had "no bubble".. and then trying to repack it :rotfl: not only did we check for bubbles but we also checked to make sure everything else was ok with the globe.. no chips on the characters or anything..

and yes.. Disney has known (like you said..unofficially) that there has been a problem. Many of the newer ones do have a design on the top so if a bubble forms, you cannot see it right away.. I guess many have not noticed that.. or just thought it was a "new design" I have several snow globes but only get them when they are marked down.... I have never paid full price.

I only have one and it was a wessing gift from DH. The character on top fell off. The glue apparently dried out after about 5 years.

I know it's just a typo, but the "wessing gift" totally cracked me up! I kept imagining what you might have to do for your hubby to get a "wessing gift."

I was about to ask what a "wessing" was I figured it was an ethnic holiday in some other region of the country. LOL!

Nice to know about the bubble. I have a few snow globes, one I noticed had the bubble and couldn't figure out how....

Not one, but two of my globes with characters that moved mechanically inside the globe slowly drained out over time. I was very upset. I have 15 and probably will never buy again because of this. I feel like the more expensive the snowglobe and the more doodads it has, the more likely it is to not make it a long time.:(
