Don't bring travelers' checks

I waited in line in three banks in Venice, but none would change my Euro traveler's checks. Then the hotel charged me FIFTEEN percent to change them. I didn't want to burden my tour guides with this, so I went ahead and changed them, costing me quite a lot of money. I will never use them again, and wish I had heeded the advice of those of you on the boards who said they were hard to deal with. Grrrr.

I had no problem at all with TC in Germany. Hotel did not charge me to exchange them. I didn't use that many of them, tho. Just put them back into my bank acct when I returned home with what was left.
