Can anyone give me any ideas for a cheap (but nice) vacation for next year. We are going to skip Disney (I know the HORROR!!) because we are buying a brand new home :cool1: So we decided that we will go back to Disney for my DD's birthday in April 2008 (so techinally only an 18 month break)

Any good suggestions would be nice (except beaches, we are not sand ppl )

You are in Philly area:

Canada

Las Vegas

Grand Canyon

New York City

Any of the New England states (Boston)

:goodvibes

Drive up to Toronto.

I feel like a spokesperson for the city
it's beautiful, clean, and has a "few" professional sports there. they also have the film festival, their national "fair", the great lake right there...etc....
there's a zoo outside the city plus an amusement park (it's paramount)

My dh and I LOVE it there and we've only hit the hockey hall of fame, bluejay games and the secondcity shows....

we're planning on going next year with our dd's

Have you considered Cedar Point? There is enough to do there for a couple days and the downtown Cleveland area has the Rock N Roll museum, a great Science Center, art museum and natural History museum. It really is a pretty area here. There are cabins near the point, hotels at the point and you could even just stop here on your way to Michigan or Chicago if you wanted.

Have you thought about Williamsburg?

I have been thinking about renting a cabin in Lexington, Va & going to the Naturla Bridge. I thought the kids would enjoy staying at Jelly Stone Park in a cabin & spend most days swimming or kayaking. :sunny:

We are huge roller coaster junkies so this would be a great trip, however DD is still kind of little and not quite big enough so this one may have to wait until later.

We do Hershey at Christmas so that will have been done.....
We both had homes in wildwood which is one of the reasons why we are NOT shore ppl and we don't like the sand anyway.

Oh my! maybe a lake resort or something, possibly the poconos... anyone been?

SKIP DISNEY??? GEEZ,please watch what you type, children might read this.

Ok,jokes aside, how about comming to nyc????

Actually, I have never been to New York and that may be a great lil romantic excursion for me and DH (we are going to need to get away for a few days when this whole move is over with) where are the hot spots?? (besides the obvious)

Vacation somewhere other than Disney? I didn't know it was possible to vacation anywhere else.

Oh, I get it! You're playing a joke! :lmao:

Vacation someplace else...Ha! You got me! :teeth:

HOT SPOTS? Is that a FDNY joke?? :teeth:
Depends what month.do you have an idea?

Flying ok or do you want driving distance?

St. Louis is a GREAT place for families and fairly inexpensive. They have a great zoo, Grant's Farm, City Museum, The Arch and a whole host of other things to do/see.

Black Hills of South Dakota is another great family vacation spot.

Resorts, northern Minnesota is full of resorts, most at VERY reasonable prices.

How about a fall trip up through the New England states?

We are from the suburbs of Phila. and drove to Niagra Falls, it is a beautiful drive and very beautiful there. Thats the type of place that you don't need to spend lots of money to have fun.

What about Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge Tennessee? There is lots to see and do. Dollywood is there with lots of rides and it isn't really that expensive, hotel rooms aren't high either (at least not like disney).

For a cheap trip, I like the idea of Canada...Niagra Falls. Being in Philly, you could travel down to Baltimore, see the sites ... Inner Harbor, Fort McHenry. Next day head down to DC see the nations capital, museums, etc. If your not into history, museums and such, try Deep Ceek Lake area or Poconos and do a little get back in touch with nature thing. Williamsburg is good idea. There is Busch Gardens, a water park (forget the name), outlets, and historic Williamsburg.....you could eaasily spend 3 or 4 days there.

On a side note, we sometimes make no plans and just leave a week open in our schedule. When it gets close to our vacation we see what "Ding" deals are out there or hit one of those last minute advertised get away specials.

My vote would be for Niagara Falls also. Stay on the Canadian side. You won't be disappointed :teeth:

We went to Detroit a few years ago. It was an awesome trip!!! We had planned to continue on to Toronto and do a circle of the Great Lakes, going through Niagara Falls and then ending at Cedar Point. That was the year of the SARS outbreak so we just did Detroit and Cedar Point. Detroit has a lot to offer. I HIGHLY recommend Greenfield Village.

I can't imagine vacationing somewhere else. No Disney? That's like a year without sunshine!

now I have heard this is a good place, but also an adult place.... Is it good for kids?
