Don't avoid rides just get some Meclizine HCI 25mg chewable tablets!!!!!

Then enjoy the rides!! Meclizine changed my life!!
I even rode space mountain 3 times in a row!!

OK, heres the important stuff,Meclizine is the genaric for Bonine[8 tablets,$10.00].Meclizine
can be purchased over the counter,a bottle of 100 tablets cost $9.00 at Wal-greens.

If you have a child with motion sickness ask their docter how much to give it will give them the relief they need to enjoy riding!!!

Take a dose the night before you travel and you will be good to go,each night of your travels take a dose!! You will think That you will are a new person!!!!!

I don't have any drowzyness with Meclizine. If I find I am getting a little car sick I take a tablet,it starts immediately to cure the ill feelings. from experiece I know I need two tablets
I Have Extereme Car Sickness,I rode in my freinds new Honda,I wasn't used to the Wish Bone suspension but when I felt that awful feeling I took the pills out of my purse,Bingo I was ok!!

It is a 24hr pill,dose 1 to 2 tablets,it works for planes,trains,buses,cars,boats and WDW rides!!

Take A dose of Meclizine and HAVE THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE!!!!

Pharmacist answer to Motion Sickness Meds
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Sawyer!
As a pharmacist I recommend Bonine, a chewable form of meclizine. This is the same medicine they will offer you on the ship. It comes in packages of 8 (just right for the 7 day) and you take it about and hour or so before you board the ship. If your kids are around 50 lbs they can take 1/2 tab (though the drug lit. says over 12) For your youngsters you can take along some liquid childrens Dramamine. Dramamine does tend to make you more drowsy. And it's true most young kids are not bothered by rough seas. I guess its due to thoes 9 months of "womb waves" they experienced. I would suggest that you ask your pediatrician if you can have a script for a couple of phenergan suppositories to take with you. This is mainly for nausea/vomiting rather than a motion sickness cure, but it would help if that situation arrises.

Do steer clear of the patches. Scopolamine is good at preventing motion sickness, but has a multitude of undesirable side effects. If your not carefull in washing your hand after application behind your ear and touch your eye it will dialate like it does at the eye doctors office. It can also give you a "bug eyed" feeling and cause dry mouth, dizziness and hallucinations.

Ginger has been studied as an anti-nausant prior to surgery but there is no formal info on prevention of motion sickness. It also has to be taken 4 times a day to be effective.

The sea-bands (bands that have a pressure point at your wrist) seem to work for some.

For what ever med you try, be sure to try it "on dry land" to make sure you don't experience any side effects or drug interactions. You can ask your local pharmacist about these too. Or you can E-mail me and I will try to help.

Have a bubbly fun time on your cruise!

I'm with you, Tink! I used to get sick as can be; now I ride everything in the park with no ill effects. I haven't tried the generic, but maybe I'll give it a shot; the price is way better than the Bonine!

I like to take it right after dinner when on vacation. This allows me to enjoy a couple of drinks with dinner without the combination of the 2 putting me out.

It has really changed the way I can enjoy the parks. Made star tours at MGM enjoyable, where as the first time I rode I was sick for hours.

Which one are you taking...the over-the-counter or the prescription? I got (and tried) the patches the above post talks about. The only side effect I had was dry-mouth, but it was horrible!! Do the pills have any side effects?

the Meclizine

I can not do the patches. Oh boy do they make me sick.

The meclizine makes me a little sleepy, but that is one reason I like to take it at night. I get to sleep it off but still have enough in my system to keep me going all day in hte parks without getting sick.

My husband and I are totally wiped out for 24 hours after taking Bonine (Meclizine)/non sleepy Dramamine. Same with our daughter.

Many people do well with this medicine, but do like tink2dw said and try it out at home.

We had luck last trip to WDW with ginger capsules (1000mg 1-2 capsules/day). No side effects for us at least and it helped my DH with the spinning rides (a guy who couldn't tloerate any spinning was able to go on Mission:Space 3 times!).

The patches did not make me sick, but I do think they had some wierd effect on me.

Why did you choose the Meclizine over Dramamine? Does it "knock you out" or is it just a little sleepiness? It has been so long since I've taken anything for motion sickness. Usually I avoid the rides that make me sick.

Also, do you feel like you could do Hulk and Mummy w/o the pills? Those are the only rides I will be riding this year that I didn't last year.

I was watching this great video of the Hulk from the POV of the rider....just the video made me dizzy!!

I don't think I'm going to try BTTF again. I did get sick on that.

I've never tried regular Dramamine. The active ingredient in non-sleepy Dramamine is the same as in Bonine-- meclizine. It totally knocks us out as in we want to curl into a ball and go to sleep for a day...

It really depends on what makes you motion sick as to what rides you can go on without problems. I have a slightly hard time on *some* simulators where the movement/visual is not in sinc (Jimmy Nuetron). My DH has a very hard time with spinning (Men in Black, teacups, etc, etc). Neither of us has a problem on coasters.

Experiment and see how your body reacts to different medicine before leaving home. Ginger capsules (concentrated 1000mg is what we have) can be gotten at GNC and probably some pharmacies.

Good luck! T&B

I guess I will just have to try different things. I had no idea that they made non-drowsy Dramine....it seems to make everyone drowsy anyway.:(

I usually have a terrible time with spinning and simulators, but for some reason, nothing made me sick last time except BTTF. Of course I didn't go on anything that spun around over and over!!

Thanks for all of your help!:wave2:

I wonder why the OP is posting this message all over the DIS--in 10 places. I can see on this board and the other theme park boards, but on the adult and solo travelers board and the budget board?

The OP must really think highly of this medication.

I have read that a child under the age of 12 should *never* take this medicine because they break it down at a different rate than an older child or adult and it could damage their liver if it builds up in their system. Don't know for sure that that info is correct, but talk to the dr before giving to a young child!

T&B

And don't forget.... these drugs should never be taken without the express written consent of MLB.
Hopefully a Dr. will chime in on this one.

Just an update....Right now I am sitting here with a Meclizine hang-over, wondering if I will be able to drive my car down to get new tires put on!! I only took one tablet last night before bed. It didn't make me sleepy at all then, but now I'm feeling quite dizzy. I know medication effects people differently, but the side effects from the patch, although very uncomfortable, were actually mild compared to this wooziness.:faint:

Has any one ever tried those wrist bands?

I really think that this side effect is more common than people let on. Good luck with your day--hopefully it won't last the full 24 hours like it does with us. I also took one tablet and it was suggested that I cut that dose in 1/2, but I don't want to chance the stuff again when ginger seems to help.

We've tried the Seabands and they didn't seem to help, but maybe they did. It's hard to measure that. The bands have to be in a very specific pressure point location.

T&B

I hate to keep spending money on these experiments, but I also don't want to be miserable when we go!! I thought about trying half a pill, and taking it in the morning instead of at night. I don't feel as bad when I am up moving. It's not like I need THAT MUCH medicine anyway. Last time, only one ride made me sick, and I could really care less about doing it again. I am a little worried about the Hulk though (DD wasn't tall enough for it before). In the past, roller coasters have made me pretty dizzy-headed!! I know my DD will want to ride Hulk over and over and over.....

Wow, I am so glad to have these boards. . .

We are heading back to Orlando in January and I would love to be able to do more rides. I can't even to the assimilated ones.
I was feeling quite dissapointed in missing out on some fun.
I have tried gravol, but it makes me very sleepy.
I was looking for something else that might help and the only thing I came across was perhaps taking ginger.

Thanks so much for everyone and their input, I will definately give some of the alternatives a try.

These boards are a life saver. We have gotten "so much" valuable information.
A huge thank you to Everyone for taking part.
I don't know where we would be without you!
