I have finally managed to convince DH to part with some luggage. We are a family of 3 and could probably pack all of our clothes in the amount of luggage we own. I remember reading somewhere that there are places you can donate luggage to be used for foster children moving from home to home. Does anyone know where to start?

It depends on your state, start with your local DCF office, or eqivalent. Keep it local if you can, If you go to the state level it may never make it to the kids. Most individual social workers would take anything you have and put it to good use.

This is a great :thumbsup2 thing to do. I spent many years as a social worker and most of these kids move from place to place with everything they own in a garbage bag. We called them "DCF suitcases". Any kind of decent luggage is a nice step towards giving these poor kids a little dignity anyway. I can't remember how many kids I took to Wallmart and bought at least a gym bag of some kind out of my own pocket, so at least they could put some of their stuff in a nice looking bag. It was heartbreaking.

I also say start with your CYS. My friend is a social worker and says they need them all the time. Some kids just take garbage bags. My mothers church is collecting them also to give to the local CYS agency. Keep your eyes open. You never know when an opportunity may present itself. I commend you for trying to help instead of just adding to the landfills.
