My daughters and I are in the process of getting stuff ready for a family yard sale, and we came across our VERY large collection of beanie babies. I remembered hearing something about people donating beanie babies to the soldiers in Iraq so they can give them to children. Does anyone know of an organization that I can send our beanie babies to.?

I hope you hear something. I have over 2 ladders of beanie babies in my closet. My mil would buy them for my dd when she was little and I bought the 2 ladders, you stuck a beanie in each wrung, I actually have 2- 3 in each wrung.

bumping...

Got a large collection here, too.

Do they only take Beanies or any Stuffed animals?

DD has a TON of regular stuffed animals that she wants to donate.

i checked out the websites a DIS member provided and they do take stuffed animals. There is a "wish" list of other items in need as well.

Not to be a downer here (sorry in advance) but our Girl Scout troop did this last year and we were all very excited about it. We have since heard that the troop who got our beanie babies didn't know why they got them and we're not sure what happen to them. The girls were really bummed.

There is a Christian organization called Samaritan's Purse. It is led my Franklin Graham, Billy's son. They do a shoebox collection each fall for Christmas. Beanies fit perfectly in the shoeboxes. Perhaps you could call around to see if any of your local churches participate in this and would be willing to take them from you now for this. Just an idea.

If you have Disney beanies, you might want to contact "Give Kids the World". I sent GKTW alot of Disney ones after I was done collecting them. They were new with tags, and had been stored to be clean.

I also searched online and sent someone else who was collecting things for homeless shelters the rest of my regular beanies. I don't remember the name of the organization.

You can also donate them to local childrens hospitals and to the fire department to give to children who are burn victims or who's home was just lost due to fire/natural distaster.

We tried to donate our last batch to the Local Fire Department. They told me they couldn't take them anymore because they has a Storage Room Full of them. :confused3

DH's parents' Sunday school class at church is doing 800 shoeboxes-just from their class! So I'm sure there's a good size church up there somewhere doing something similar that could use them.
