What is it like? food? what characters? Best time to go?

We usually do chef Mickeys on our Animal Kingdom day but I would really like to try something different. It would be me, dh and dd 9, dd 7, ds 23 months.

We thought it was really good! There was the usual breakfast fare of eggs, sausage, bacon, carved ham, waffles, fruit but also the African offerings of mealie pap (yum! and I don't care for grits), seasoned potatoes and other things I can't remember.

They were late seating us, so we got to stay as they put out lunch, too and that was very good with lots of salads like couscous salad, lentil salad, greens, really yummy dumplings and chicken dishes, more carved meat, soups. I wish I had written it down and could be more help. All in all, I thought it was the best buffet we did out of 1900 Park Fare, Crystal Palace and TH.

Forgot to add that the characters were Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Goofy all dressed in safari attire. Good interaction. We really like going for a late breakfast (adr was for 10:15, but we were seated till 10:45) and getting to sample breakfast and lunch both. But if you want to do it early, breakfast is definitely worth it on it's own.

We went 3 years ago when it was still Donald's Breakfastosaurus, and we have ADR's for it again this June. We really liked it. It was a typical buffet of breakfast foods, eggs, bacon, sausage, chocolate chip pancakes, waffles, ham, cinnamon bread, doughnuts and plenty more. The characters we saw then were Goofy, Pluto, Mickey and Donald. I'm not sure if this has changed since the breakfast has changed venues. I would definitely recommend it and I think it's easier to get an ADR here than at CM.

We've been there for the past 2 years since it opened and it's wonderful. Lots of options and the Junge Juice is AWESOME! It is a great place to eat, relax and watch some African-style dances that happen in front of the restaurant. :dancer:

We had breakkie here in January and it was great! :thumbsup2

For the PP who wondered if the meal is held at Tusker House, the answer is yes :) .

LOTS and LOTS of food choices here. Literally almost every breakfast item you can think of, and a few more besides. NO ONE should go hungry at this meal.

Yummy, yummy Jambo juice. My DS drank at least a half gallon :scared1: with his food.

Its fun to see the characters all decked out in their safari wear. Some pics:

Best of all, we had an 8:00 a.m. reservation, and we were all done in time to be one of the first to ride Expedition Everest that morning.

We went in 2008 and had a wonderful time! The food was very very good, and the character interaction was the best that we have experienced so far! I would not hesitate to go again. I think our ADR was for a little bit after 8am. I know it was before the park opened. It was a great time to go!

For those who've had ressies soon after 8, what is the walk like back to TH before AK opens at 9? I'm imagining that being kind of special in itself, just walking through when it's mostly empty and quiet. Or is that just imagining??

I would get as close to 8:00 as possible. A cast member will pick you up at the front gate and walk you though the park and point out different animals to you. It's like a private tour. We really enjoy going there. Food is great too.

yeah we did an 8am ADR and it was awesome. No cast members walked us to the Tuskar house so we strolled through the park while it was quiet. It was nice, but the best was being right outside of the safari for rope drop. We were on the first jeep out and it was great!! No wait at all.

Food was good, character interaction was not as good as Ohana but still a great time:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We have 8:00 am ressies :woohoo::yay: for this trip. What time will they let you go in the park?

Well, you are admitted through the front gates by a CM once they confirm your ADR confirmation #. Then you can go right on to Tusker House.

If you mean what time can you start riding the rides, it would be right at park opening (when we were there, that was 9 a.m.). We literally walked out of the restaurant just in time to have the CM's carrying the rope go waltzing by. Perfect timing!! We joined the happy crowd and it was off to EE :goodvibes .

We were there a week ago and also had 8am ressies- perfect!
The CMS at the front gate check that you have a ressie, then point you in the direction, and you just kind of follow others heading the same way. (we had never been to AK before so had no clue) I think they let us in around 7:45.

I agree that the food was very, very good. Make sure you see all they have to offer, some things are tucked into a corner. You will definitely leave there full!
Plus the characters were all great and a good time was had by all.

We also got out in time to make the first jeep on the Safari trek and that was great. Lots of animals were out and about and our full tummy's were happy for a long time.

I highly recommend this breakfast! It would be a must do for us every trip.

I was planning to go here in August. really wanted to do the breakfast as we have never done a character one before, or any sit down breakfast come to think of it. Would love to be able to also sample the lunch food but as we only plan one trip to AK not really possible. Therefore, was wondering what the absolute latest ADR you can get for Breakfast here.
Thanks

This is my son favorite restaurant. He loves the food and the character interaction. He loves the parade. This is my husband 2nd favorite breakfast place. I like the place b/c you don't feel rushed and the characters take their time.

acually we had ressies @ 9 on the dot (when park opened) we arrived 10 minutes before and they let us in and it was so nice and peaceful to walk all the way back to the Tusker House w/o anyone around. It was very beautiful! I also got some nice pics :)

We LOVED it! The food selections offered a little more variety than your usual breakfast buffet and can I say one word........FRUNCH! It is so yummy! The only downside (IMO) was that, being a party of two, we were stuck back in this corner where it was REALLY crowded and our server didn't come around very often. More frunch, people, keep it coming! :goodvibes

We are a party of 2, were there any other 2 table tops around in the restaurant? If so, do you have a recommendation of where to request a spot that isn't hidden. I say this mainly because I drink like crazy and I really hate it when my orange soda runs out :)

I'm the same way about drinks and I loved that juice!!!! Plus, they bring these TINY glasses so they run out pretty quick. My DH had orange juice and didn't like the frunch. They came around while we were at the buffet and gave him frunch instead of OJ and they never did come back for us to ask for OJ. He was bummed, but I got double the juice ;)

Have you ever been in the restaurant (even when it was the old Tusker House?) There are 2 main rooms to eat in - the one closest to the food buffet area and then the one over to the side of that. We were in the one off to the side and then back in the little alcove (basically the furthest you could have been from the food, but it really wasn't 'far.')

There were 3 tables of 6, then a 2-3 foot aisle, and then 3 tables for 2 beside them. When the characters came back there, you were totally cornered. I think I ate half my meal with Donald's tail in my food :rotfl: Plus, DH and I are both very tall and do not sit with our stomachs touching the table, we like our chairs pushed back slightly (otherwise, our knees would have been interlocked under the table!) Our chairs were butted up against the people behind us and it was really hard to move or get out.

Unfortunately, I didn't notice where there might have been other 2 person tables, but if you're led to this area, I might ask if there's another option :thumbsup2 It was kind of a running joke with us because we noticed everywhere we went the 2 person tables were in VERY crowded and squishy areas, so it was not a huge deal, but was a little uncomfortable. Have fun and good luck :goodvibes
