Donald's Defiant Dashers Team Challenge

OKay, that does it.....................No more housework for me! :)

Thanks for the clarification, Vic! You rock -- and now I don;t feel compelled to take one for the team and start cleaning my house regularly or anything.:cool1:

So yesterday, we got all the way up to 65 degrees! And thanks to the inspiration of all the folks here, I did something I never would have thought of doing a year ago. I hauled out my bicycle in the dead of winter and did all my errands without ever starting up the car (well, until I had to leave for class in the afternoon and it was raining and I didn't have time to bike 20 miles each way anyhow! excuses excuses)....

I worked it out on one of those mapping websites and it looks like I covered 14 miles. I was gone for over 2 hours, but I wasn't actually on the bike for all of that: I'd say about half of the time was spent at the post office, picking up stuff at CVS, etc. So I guess that would count for an hour of exercise? Does that seem fair? After commenting above, i don;t want to be improperly padding my hours, since it wasn't "continuous" but it was several consecutive spurts of exercise.

So, Vic, how do we do totals? Do we PM them to you tomorrow, post them here, or what? Just give me the orders and I will obey, Captain!

Hey Everyone!
Weights/Pilates today :)

IMHO - I don't think housework or hours spent teaching aerobics/personal training etc. should count.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Hello...just sneaking in here to look at the awesome competition :tiptoe: . I'd love to clarify the instructor deal..at least from my perspective. If there are any others out there I can't speak for them. :goodvibes

As an instructor I can assure you that I don't count any minutes toward classes that I TEACH only. I totally agree that if I'm walking around the room or if I'm standing next to somebody doing weights...then that would be ridiculous to count it. I definitely have more respect for the game and my fellow athletes here to do that :). However...if I'm taking the class along with my students (depends on their ability and group size), then sure I'll count the minutes because I teach a kick-butt tough class. If I'm leaving the building sweating...then I deserve the minutes :). Just a clarification from the only, I think possibly, fitness instructor in the group. The way my body feels today is a testament to the rigor I've put it under this week teaching 9 classes along with training and taking other instructors classes.

Thanks...and again..you guys are an impressive group. Keep up the good work! :thumbsup2

Yes you are absolutely right, you are doing the class just like the students so it counts.

Erica - way to go on getting on the bike, that's a good way to squeeze in a workout while still getting life stuff done.

I'm sad to report I will not have a good week though there is a good excuse. I'm on call this week and had the luck of being awake from 6am on Tuesday to 2am on Thursday. For those keeping track that is 44 hours of being awake with a good majority of that time working.

I hope to be on the treadmill for a 3 miler today and get back to it.:thumbsup2

OK--Seeing how you brought it to our thread, here is my take. (Amy--before you read this please keep in mind the identity of the author and it is meant to represent a sarcastic/trash talking view point and is not meant to attack you personally (even though you visit and post on the Pilly 08'ers f/k/a MCMers thread) or your job (if you are willing to arrange a few free Pilates lessons for me before I dislocate something ;)) This is a competition for amatuer athletes. Therefore, professionals being paid to exercise should not be allowed to count their paid training time. I know the Weakness for Princesses Panda thinks this is acceptable, but I am considering an appeal to the International Olympic Miles/Hours Games Sub-Committee on "What Counts." Hey, many of us have families, jobs (not in the exercising field) and other commitments so we have to make time to train and this "Challenge" is designed to inspire us to try to take more time away from those other commitments and improve ourselves. Allowing paid professional exercising time to be allowed flies in the face of the concept of what this "Challenge" is about. I was willing to give on WISHers counting the time they were being shown and judged at sanctioned dog shows, but I cannot, in good conscience to my team, allow this to pass without taking a stand.

By the way, in that my heart rate sometimes gets elevated when my boss, judges, other attorneys and clients yell at me, make preposterous arguments and/or demand the unattainable, can I count those hours as training?

I am counting from 2/1 through today, 2/7.

2:10 swimming
2:30 bike/spin class (20 miles for the bike part)
2:40 run (14 miles)
1:45 strength/yoga

Total hours: 9:05
Total miles: 34

Unfortunately, I won't rack up many running miles next week, either because I will be water running some of it. Oh, well.

How was everyone else's week?

Go, Dashers!

Actually Bill...I didn't necessarily bring it to your thread so much as defend my honor if you will ;). I think I may be the only instructor called into question. I just don't want anyone to get the idea that watching others exercise will be added to my minutes time. I wouldn't count anything that I don't feel is strenuous and actual physical, non-stop exercise.

Trust me...the hours teaching actually take away from mileage count for me b/c I've had to decrease my time. And as a mom I'm also very busy with a ton of other responsibilities. I can't spend hours at the gyms I work in, unfortunately. I'm still doing the girl scout leader thing, the pta thing, etc etc. And I spend at least 1.5 hours driving each day. Matter of fact...Not sure I'm actually making any money for this teaching gig. Between gas and babysitters for the girls ROFL!

Just please don't question my integrity..that's all I ask. I'm just posting the minutes of continuous activity. Hope that helps. And please check in with me if you have any Pilates questions...be careful there!!!

Yep I love the princesses, they are to be pampered and protected, are you pampering your's?

Bill I jst can't imagine anyone wanting to yell at you.:)

Allowing paid professional exercising time to be allowed flies in the face of the concept of what this "Challenge" is about.

Just one more thing then I promise I'll shut my mouth and stay away from your team thread. If that was the ONLY thing this challenge was about, then we shouldn't even be counting the mileage for running/walking. right? :confused3

I have added spinning...I'm adding swimming as soon as I can....I've decided to train for a triathlon :goodvibes . Anyway...I'm still doing what I've always done (for years...I took a ton of pilates classes before becoming a teacher) and I've added new goals for myself...and I'm still running. The spirit of the challenge lives within me :rotfl: .

Peace TripleDs. You guys rock. :goodvibes

Captain - Do you want me to post here in the thread my hours/miles for the week, or directly onto the spreadsheet?

:cheer2: Go Triple D's!:cheer2:

Good day all!

Good ol' Bill. Looking for any hornet's nest he can find to whack with a stick!

Amy - Count whatever you want. I'm sure you earn every bit! :thumbsup2

Vic - Here's the weekly total.

Fri - XT 3.1 miles / 50 minutes
Sat LR 14.1 miles / 120 minutes
Mon 7.06 miles / 61 minutes
Wed 7.14 miles / 56 minutes
Thurs 6.16 miles / 51 minutes

Totals: 37.56 miles / 338 minutes

Thanks for being a great leader!

Ok I guess today is the day to post our weekly total since tomorrow will start a new week.

Fri - 5mi bike/40 min
Sun - 2mi run/walk/30 min
Tues - 2mi run/walk/30 min
1 hr XT
Wed - 3.8mi run/walk/45 min

Total - 12.8mi/205 mins

Okay, slow week for me, here goes. For the skiing entries I only counted actul skiing time. I did not include waiting for and riding the chairlift. Through this I realize how little time is actually spent skiing.

Sat. Skiing 98 mins
Sun. Skiing 74 mins
Thur. Run 3 miles/ 27 mins

Total 3 miles / 199 mins
Sorry team, life got in the way real bad this week but I should rebound nicely next week. :thumbsup2

Evening, team!

Bill: Most excellent job at finding a loophole! :worship: I just got back from a deposition, and if prolonged accelerated heart rate counts, I'd have a big old 8 hours down for today, instead of the pathetic zero I really earned (I was so ready to go to the gym, but I am just wiped out from arguing over every word with opposing counsel....)

Scott: Don't apologize! You are off to a fine start, and it is great to have you aboard. But yes,it is shocking to realize just how little time is spent actually skiing.:scared1:

Big Vic: Hope you are recuperating well, and Dusty and Earnhardt are taking good care of you, as only dogs can. On a sidenote, I volunteer at the North Shore Animal League once a week, and when we get in puppies and kittens, the people on duty in processing have the honor of giving them names (it's believed it makes them more individual and less like fungible goods, leading to more and better adoptions). You will be proud to know that as of last night, we now have a puppy named Earnhardt. :dogdance:

Good job getting those steps in, Triple D's! Keep up the great job. :cheer2:

Okay, Captain, here are my weekly totals:

Friday: 5.2 miles, 68 minutes running/walking
Saturday: 3.6 miles, 62 minutes walking
Monday: 1.4 (ugly, hungover) miles, 20 minutes (walking is what I suppose you'd call it)
Tuesday: 5.1 miles, 65 minutes running/walking
Wednesday: 14.1 miles, 60 minutes biking

Totals: 29.4 miles, 275 minutes (I think, but my math skills are pretty poor)

Now, that's too cool! :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

Ya done good! :)

If you get a chance, I'd like to have a picture of him.

Everyone - You guys are doing great! I'm actually getting on the TM for a couple of miles this evening. When I get done I'll get everyone's numbers posted on the spreadsheet.

:)

Anchor reporting in for duty:sail:.

Sat: 1.52 miles/33 minutes
Sun: 45 minutes core and psuedo Pilates
Mon: 1.54 miles/33 minutes
Tues:45 minutes core and psuedo Pilates
Thurs: will post later if I get it done. Plan another 1.5 miles, but it looks like the rain has started once again. (Where the heck is the cold and snow? Thats right, Robert is hogging it all).

Big Vic--In the interests of full disclosure, I rounded to the nearest minute as to time. Don't want people to think I'm artificially inflating my numbers.

Keep up the great work team.

Bill - You crack me up! Sarcasm is my middle name ;)
Erica - 1.4 (ugly, hungover) miles - lmao!!!!!!

DDD's what a great start everyone's had!
I'm glad I had a big weekend because I slowed down on miles
during the week. Grrrrrrr....

Fri - Weights/Pilates 1hr
Sat- 4 mile run - 1hr
Sun - 15 mile bike + weights - 2hr
Mon- 12oz beer curls = 0hr
Tues - Weights/Pilates/abs w/trainer- 1 grueling hr
(a looooong session with my trainer working my butt off
and her busting me saying "isn't this a fun workout" lol! She's
the best, but she makes The Biggest Loser's Jillian look like an angel!)
Wed - not so much - 1/2 hr core
Thurs - weights/abs 1/2 hr

total: Miles - 19 miles - 6hours

AmyBeth68 - Sorry - wasn't meaning to offend/attack anyone:goodvibes
