Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Sorry I haven't been on the boards in a LONG time. I am getting back into my training since I have no choice since I am signed up once again for the Goofy and time is of the essence.....

I hope to be more involved on this thread as well as on the WISH board in general. My training is progressing even though I am probably behind in my training. I did a 14 miler yesterday and I loved the cooler weather - it helped my time alot except the wind on the way back was a killer - I made it through in about the same time as I did my 12 miler the week before but it was hot and humid for that.

Hope everyone is doing well and Sam Sam - hope your leg/hip feels better soon. Mine has been giving me problems since right after the 2009 marathon but thankfully this year it hasn't been giving me too much pain. Hope you are able to get out and walk soon.

The Goofy! Good for you! A 14 miler is great, you still have a couple of months to train.:goodvibes I've always had a little bit of a hip/leg problem, but since the Food and Wine Half I can't seem to get rid of it. Hmmph, I hate to admit it, but I'm really noticing that as I age, my body doesn't recover nearly as quickly. :lmao:
I'm going to start walking tomorrow and see how it goes. My zumba class today was giving my hip fits, but I'm not giving up all my different classes...just plan to power through.

DISboards WISH racing team members....

If you are interested in the order for WISH Racing Team Headsweats hats and or visors please go to the following thread to place your order.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2537249
I have to have a minimum amount of orders to place an order, so this is usually only done ONCE a year.
If you want a WISH Racing Team hat/visor for the up coming year's races, now is the time to get one.
I need the minimum order placed by November 20th to get everyone's hats/visors to them by WDW January Marathon weekend.

Thanks,
Tracy

Happy weekend everyone, hope everyone is doing good. I ran a 10k this morning. It was a Turkey Trot at one of the local parks. My unofficial time was 60:24. It felt pretty good, a little knee pain, but it went away before I finished. Debbie ran the 5k, it was her first serious running race and she did really good. I think we are going to do a Holiday Hustle 5k on December 4th near here and that will be the last race until the WDW half in January.
I am ready for the January trip, DD (Stephanie) and I are staying at All Star Movies (Pop was booked for that time). We get in the 5th and fly back home the 9th. Where is everyone else staying and when do you get in? Is is too soon to start planning a Duck meet? I know their is a Dis meet at Pop on Friday afternoon, I'm not sure if I will make that or not. If Steph meets up with friends I will be there, if not we will be playing at one of the parks.
Have a good weekend everybody.
Joe

Hey Ducks! Doing a 7 miler tomorrow while my DD10 does her first ever 5K. I am hoping she will catch the running bug, too. Then, we can quit competitive cheerleading next year so that my Disney Racing Plans will not ALL be foiled like they were this year! No WDW or Princess Races due to her competition schedule - UGH! Had to cancel my February ressie. Horrible.

Have my last Half of the season scheduled for next weekend in Philly. Looking forward to it but afraid of the hiatus I will be on until the National Half in DC at the end of March. I will need to register for smaller races to keep me motivated. Too many excuses to NOT do anything that I will surely want to take advantage of. KWIM?

Today, I purchased two pairs of CW-X running tights online. Almost every single review was a positive one. The literature seems promising related to knee pain as well. Might want to look into them, Shannon! They are very pricy though. I think I will wear a pair in Philly - even though I've been used to shorts. I am terrified of the cold . . . and what it can do to my knee.

Anyway, hope all is well with my Fellow Ducks! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the head's up on the tights! I was actually going online to look for some but came to Dis first! Are they compression tights? Or just for cold weather? Believe it or not, I got a GREAT pair of Champion tights at Target for $25 last year & another this year. But I thought I'd try some "real" tights to see if there's a difference.

Good luck on your 7 miler! :worship: Where are you finding these? :confused3 I'm going to have to leave Jersey for some races! I'm not finding anything longer than a 5K around here, except for the occasional 10k waaay up north. My cousin is doing the Princess & she needs a 10k for proof of time. Doesn't seem likely to find one between now & February!

I'm with ya on the motivation! Just can't seem to get going. Had my mind set on kicking in training this weekend then ran into some, let's just say, not feeling well issues. :rolleyes1 UGH. Always something.

Starting PT on Tues for the knee. Wish me luck! Either way, knees schmees--training mode starts NOW! Only 14 weeks till Princess!!!:cheer2:

Hey Ducks!

CW-X are compression tights - made especially for performance (muscles, joints, etc.) I didn't wear them today for my 7 miler b/c they haven't arrived yet, but I did wear a pair of Nike capri tights. We ran on some softer surfaces, but for some reason - no knee pain! Go figure. I am hoping for the best when it comes to my Half this weekend coming up. Oh, and I did take an Immodium. . . has become a staple since my experience with the WDW Half last January. I had a race that day like you did for the Wine and Dine. I just can't risk it . . .way too uncomfortable!

There is a race production company by the beach called Seashore Striders. There is a local race just about every weekend within driving distance. Most are 5K's though. It is tough to find something longer. The 10 miler near University of Delaware was found via races2run.com. There really aren't any longer than a 5K coming up too soon - especially as it gets colder. I know what you mean - they can be hard to find! If I see some on their sites, I will let you know. You are just a couple of hours drive from me - not too far. And heck, you can always make a weekend out of it. I live near the beach and great outlet shopping - with NO taxes! You are welcome to crash!

Good luck with the PT! I will be thinking of you! Hope to catch up with you next weekend. I can't wait to check out the Expo! I am such a nerd . . . and a sucker for gear!

I had a 16 miler planned for today and went out and ended up doing only 15.4 miles. It was hot and sunny and I just wasn't feeling into it. Plenty of times I thought of calling my DH to come pick me up but I struggled through it knowing that I would have do the 16 miles sooner or later. I am just praying for cold weather like at the last Goofy. This Florida girl HATES the heat!!

Marathonmommy - good luck in Philly next weekend.

Hi Ducks! Hope everyone is well. As some of you may have noticed from my fb pics, i was out west the last few days. Went to Carson City to look at a company that does work for us, and had a bit of time to ride over to lake Tahoe. Beautiful country out there. I did go running while there, out in the early am. I thought it was a bit cool, I had on shorts and two running shirts, one of them long-sleeved. I was not as cold as last jan in DW, but I noticed on one of those clock/temp signs you see outside of banks that it was 27. But it was a dry cold, so they say......

Time is winding down fast, almost the end of November, and soon time for the marathon weekend. Where does the time go?

Have a good weekend!

Getting ready to do a 5k this morning - a Turkey Trot in my town. I always love doing races in my town since its my normal running route I feel at home. Tomorrow I have an 18 miler so this will be my first back to back for the Goofy.

Good luck in the Philly 1/2 Marathonmommy and anyone else doing races this weekend!!

Marathonmommy- Race report, please!:woohoo:popcorn::

And I'm dying to know how the tights worked out!

You certainly don't need to twist my arm....loved Philly - AGAIN! The Expo for this race was not nearly as good as the Rock n Roll Half. There was not nearly as much free stuff. Last time, I walked away with tons of free Luna bars, samples of Greek yogurt, etc. This time, nada. But, Verizon had a cute Kids' Zone and the kids loved playing here while my mom sat and I walked around. Usually love Expos, but since I've now been to a few, it seems to be the same crap everywhere. LOL! I did finally find the Power Band stall I was looking for at Wine and Dine and bought one. It may all be a hoax, but I will take any possible advantage I can get to stay injury free.

Since the race was full by the time I registered, I decided to run for a charity. I decided to run for the Tourettes Syndrome Association. They had a very low fundraising requirement and it seemed like a good cause. I exceeded my requirement, which was a good thing. That night, we had a TSA dinner and we (my mom, DD, DS, and I) sat with another family with two kids. The little girl we sat with had Tourettes - but I don't think I would have picked up on it. Later, my DD told me she noticed it, but the kids had a blast at dinner and I am happy we were able to help out kids having to deal with this daily! Dinner was about 2 hours long, so I am glad they had the company of each other. It was a nice night.

I stayed at Society Hill which is a couple of miles from the start. No cabs were available, and there was a LONG line of people waiting. Took the subway with a bunch of others and followed the crowd to the start. The corrals were disorganized, and no one was checking (so opposite from Disney), so I just ran with the closest one. It was fine.

This course was so different from RnR....but I think better. We started at Ben Franklin Parkway, went down Race Street and down to Penn's Landing. We made our way back up Chestnut and then past the zoo and back to Eakins Oval at the start. The crowd support was absolutely incredible for much of the race. It was so cool to see the different neighborhoods of Philly this way. I am looking forward to going back with the kiddos and seeing the Liberty Bell and other sites! Miles 7-9 were full of hills - I don't know how, but they were all uphill. There was a beast of one near the zoo. I significantly slowed down at the hills! But somehow, I managed to PR...I ran a 2:23:30 - probably because it was the first of my 3 Half Marathons I did not have excruciating knee pain. And yes, I am giving credit to the CW-X compression tights. I really do think they made a difference. I still had some pain in my non-surgery knee near the end, but the pain was not the crippling kind if you know what I mean.

Overall, it was a perfect race day....there was perfect weather, perfect sights, and perfect atmosphere. Loved this race . . . but wouldn't do the full here! (There was a split near the Half finish, and I would be SOOOOOO tempted to finish in the Half chute having just completed the major hills of the race!) :dance3:

Hi everyone.
Laura nice job on the half over the weekend.
Dan way to go on the Ragnar thing, looks like you had a good time. Sorry again about accidentally calling you today, I clicked the wrong Dan to call. Hopefully I didn't interrupt anything important.
I managed to run 8 miles Saturday morning. I haven't been getting many miles in since I've been back from the wine & Dine, my motivation hasn't been there. Getting darker early hasn't helped.:confused3
Does any one have any ideas for a meet up during the WDW race weekend? We head back home on Sunday afternoon. Our last day at WDW we usually spend the day at MK, is anyone interested in getting together on Saturday evening for the Electrical Parade and Wishes?
Everybody have a Happy Thanksgiving and happy running.
Joe

Great job, Laura! :thumbsup2

Joe - I'll have to talk to Liz, but I'd love to get together! :goodvibes We're planning to have dinner at The Plaza (it's early though) and don't really have any plans besides that.

Hello Ducks! Good that we are all keeping up with the running, more or less. Laura, great time in your half! Joe, you seem to be running much more than I am. Only a few times a week, I ran a bit at lunch today. I am planning on a 5K on Thanksgiving. I am still biking though. Hard to believe, looking at some of the tickers, that we are almost down to one month away.

Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone!!

Hi Ducks.

Great job Dan on the Ragner thing - I was following along on Facebook. That looked like a fun time.

Laura - good job on your race. And that is awesome you did it for charity. It makes it mean a little more I think since you know you have done something good for someone else.

Augy - good luck on the 5k on Thursday.

As for me I tried to do an 18 miler on Sunday but it was just too hot and I had to call my husband and abort mission after 15.3 miles (2 miles from home) I had originally planned to do 2 20 milers but I guess one of those 20 milers is going to be my 18. We are supposed to be getting a cool front coming in hopefully by Thanksgiving so my temps on Sunday might be ok for a 13 miler then I will do my 18 miler the next weekend. If its not cooler I will have to use my treadmill because at least its out of the direct sun and that was what killed me. I don't think it had anything to do with me doing a 5k the day before because I did Goofy in 2010 and was fine but I haven't done any back to back training this season and I don't plan on it really.

Hope everyone has a GREAT Thanksgiving and good luck to anyone doing Turkey trots or races this weekend.

Hello All,

Been a while since I posted here. Thanks for the good words on the Ragnar race. If you ever get the opportunity to do one I highly suggest you do it. They have them all over the country. My race was a 12 person 202 mile relay race across Florida. I personally ran about 22 miles in this journey. 19 were my legs of the race and 3 were pacing another runner. Other than my very first race this was the best race I have ever been a part of. Made some new friendships and solidified others.

I have had a pretty intense racing schedule over the past couple of months and it has taken a toll on my body. I have decided to take a break from racing for a few months and try and let my body heal. This will mean that I am not doing WDW marathon weekend. I have thought about this long and hard and this is in my own best interest. This will allow me to come back even stronger next year.

I hope everyone has a great turkey day and takes some time to rest.
