Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Hey Ducks, happy April! I hope everyone is getting some nice weather. Ours couldn't be better here, just gorgeous. :sunny:

I had my doctor's appt. today, and she says I have IT band syndrome. She told me to crosstrain, and do the stretches she gave me. And then if things don't improve after a couple weeks I'm to go see my ortho.

So, I'm committing to doing everything I can for the next two weeks to get this better.

Hello Ducks! Well, the sun is out here, and it is a beautiful day. Can't wait for work to be over. There has been a lot of flooding here due to the rains. But it is nice out now and I might go for a run when I get home.

Dan, did you limit your visit to mostly lower Manhatten? There is a real nice path along the Hudson that goes almost the whole length of Manhatten, a nice ride I do sometimes is up to the George washington bridge and over into NJ. In a few weeks there is a ride in the city called the Five Burrough Ride, they close off the streets and you ride through all five burroughs, including over the Verrazano Bridge. It is pretty cool, only about 45 miles. I have done this for the last 15 years or so.

Regarding the treadmill conversations, I have never really used one, but I do not think I could read while running on one. It would seem kind of bouncy. Music would be a good thing, though I do not listen while running. But I sing to myself!

Hope everyone is enjoying the day!

Augie

Hello team,

Went out this morning to test the knee out. Did a slow 3 mile run. The knee was still a little tender, but it felt good to be out running again. The weather was absolutely beautiful today and it looks like it is going to be even more beautiful this weekend. Sorry to make this short, but I have a ton of homework to get done tonight. Will post more later.

Cheers
Dan

Hey gang,
WOW what I nice day today, did a 4 mile run on the bike path along the river, it was a nice run.

Liz hopefully the stretching will help the problem.

Well DD heard from the College program last week and she got in!:cool1:
She starts August 30th in the custodial role. She doesn't know what park she will be working at (she requested MK).

I am going to work on her to run with us on the Halloween fun run on October 2nd (if she's not working), but I still have to convince Debbie to do it too.

With Steph being there during Christmas, it looks like we are going to plan a trip for the holidays :thumbsup2.
That means 3 trips to WDW in 7 months, is that too much;)

Everyone enjoy the Easter weekend.

Joe:hippie:

Wow your daughter is one lucky girl :woohoo: Looks like you might as well buy yourself a condo down by Disney for as much time your spending down there :rotfl2:.

Joe Congrats to your DD! I am so jealous! Wishing her the best!

Liz My ITB is always tight, but not painful - hope yours feels better with the stretches & x-training!

Dan Hope the knee continues to get better.

I'm headed out in a bit for three miles on this beautiful day.
Slow, but steady.

Enjoy your day everyone! :yay:

Hello Ducks!!!!

Well it started out as a really good day I got an hour and a half in at the gym. I weighted myself and realized I met my goal of being below my pre-military weight and then the ball dropped. I got a call from my boss saying that I am probably heading to Afghanistan in June. In case you didn't know I was supposed to go to Tampa, Florida for my deployment later in the year. Funny how things work out. Good news is it is only for six months and I will be back in time for the WDW marathon (fingers crossed). Not sure how I am going to train for it though, hmmm.

This is a good thing and I actually prefer taking the fight to the bad guys on their soil and getting a chance to lead young troops again.

Dan don't think I've thought of that once or twice (or a hundred) times.
Good luck on your deployment.

Happy Easter everyone.
Joe

Mornin' Ducks!

Dan - Wow! :scared1: on the Afgahanistan thing. That was one heck of a dropped ball. Best of luck! And thanks, in advance, for serving and protecting us. On a selfish Duck side, will you be able to continue to post here when you're over there? Would hate to lose touch with you.

Joe - Congrats to your daughter and to you in being "forced" to take more trips to WDW! :rolleyes1 Lucky Duck!

Liz - Glad you finally got a diagnosis. I know I have a serious IT band problem, and I'm in serious denial about it. I have an incredibly high tolerance for pain, so I'm running through it as I stretch it more and try to solve it on my own.

So my March total running was about 66 miles. Not good, but better than February. My plan is to get outside today and run 5-6 miles, if the weather allows.

If I don't make it back here, here's wishing all Ducks a very blessed Easter with family and friends. Allehluia! He has risen! Amen!

Dan - Thank you for your service, I hope your time in Afghanistan passes quickly and safely.
Liz- I hope you heal quickly and never have the problem again.
Joe- Very fun news about your daughter. :)
Everyone - Enjoy the spring weather and being able to get outdoors for runs/walks.

I finished up March with a total of 35 1/2 hours -35.7 miles. A combination of cross training classes, walking, and a little stationary biking. I'm hoping to get my walking mileage up this month, I find it so much easier to add mileage when I can be outside.

Hello Ducks! I hope everyone had a good Easter weekend. The weather has improved here greatly.

Liz, I hope your crosstraining helps with the IT,and you can get back to running. Does biking count for that?

Dan, good that your knee is better. Safe travel and return from Afghanistan.

Joe, that is cool your daughter will be working in DW. I have thought of a part time job there upon retirement. Maybe wearing some purple pants....

Renee, good job with 66 miles, that is more than twice what I did. Or ever do, I think. If I run more than 10 miles a week my back begins to bother me.

Have a good week!

Augie

dan sorry to hear of your deployment.. my thoughts and prayers are with you guys!

Liz keep getting better, we need you to uplift us!

keep getting out there! :cool1:

What did I do to my calf?

I went scooting (using DD's old plastic scooter) on Thursday - using my right foot to push. Went running on Friday. Barely did 2 miles & had to stop due to shooting pain. Iced, Advil & rest. Walked 3 miles yesterday & it's still sore today.

New shoes - Brooks Glycerin. Yes, first time running in them was Friday.

What the heck did I do? And NOW, what DO I DO? :confused3

Karin - I have no advice for you but hope your calf is better soon.

Dan - Congrats on reaching your goal weight! :cool1: Sorry to hear about the upcoming deployment. :(

Hope the rest of the ducks are doing well!

I only got in 4 1/2 miles last week. Had issues with migraines all week. But, I'm feeling much better now and just finished another 25 minute run and could have gone for longer. Next up is 28 minutes and I have absolutely no worries about completing my runs. :goodvibes

I'm feeling really, really down about running right now...I feel like fate is against me and I'm not meant to run. :sad1: I typed out a big post but I deleted it. I don't want to be a downer, anymore than this post already is.. (sorry!!)

All of you who are in shape, don't get injured, are able to be consistent with your workouts and are in a great place with your running, you are really fortunate. I'm so happy for you. And so envious.

Liz[/B] keep getting better, we need you to uplift us!

Karen, this is so sweet and it made me smile. I WISH I could be more of an uplifter right now. I really enjoy this team and want to do all I can to make it a great one. I hate that I can't be what I want to be right now!! :(:(

OK change to the change, looks like the deployment to Afghanistan is off for now, but I am still on for the deployment (if you want to call it that) to Tampa, Florida is still on. Good news is I will get to see my family during the holidays and i will still get to do the Disney marathon. Bad news I am still away from my family. Anyways thanks everyone for the well wishes. You are what makes this team great.

Well I did 3 miles this morning and the knee was still tender, not trying to push it to much right now, trying to ease back into the running.

Liz - You can vent if you want to. We're here for you! Hope things look brighter soon for you.

Dan - Glad at least you'll still be on US soil. Hoping the time passes quickly so you can see your family.

My training has been going good, it's been cold & rainy the last couple days, so I'm back inside running on the track, hopefully it will get better this weekend, I prefer to run outside.

In 30 days :drive:we will be at Boardwalk Villas, really looking forward to a vacation. I just signed Debbie & I up for the D23 Flower & Fireworks on the 15th & 16th, can't wait.

Have a good weekend everyone.:wizard:
