After being on hold for half an hour, I finally spoke with someone at Pro-Form (treadmill). The guy was very nice, had me take the hood off the tm and checked some stuff, and we talked about what happened when it stopped working. (Here's the story on that: My poor 10 yr old was running on it and suddenly there was a pop and a big spark came out AND it went up to 10 mph on its own! Scared him bigtime!) Anyway, it sounds like it could cost anywhere from $20-$300+ to repair it, depending on the problem(s). We have to get a volt checker thingy to see where the power is not working. Also, the running belt may need to be replaced. This tm is 5 years old, but has only really had about 2 years of use. So, I need to talk to dh about how to proceed..repair or replace..

I also set an appt. with my primary doctor for this Thursday for the hip. :thumbsup2

Liz It sounds as if it is time to get medical help. Have you considered going to your physio? That is what I'll do when I have an issue, especially as my md is very hard to see. You might be luckier.

My usual order is massage therapist, physio then md. Hope you get fixed up soon!

Sally, what exactly does a physio do?? I don't have one, I don't have anything other than my primary doctor. I did see an ortho last year for my Achilles, so I guess I "have" him. Do physio's take insurance or what? I am totally clueless about this stuff.

Hello Ducks! I hope everyone had a great weekend and that your workouts were all good. I just wanted to drop in just to say it fells so good to finally get back going after a minor setback. I hit the roads this weekend and did a nice and easy 5k run and woke early this morning and got a 1 hour workout in :yay:. But anyway good luck training this week everyone.

Great job Tim! I can't wait to get back into the swing of running.

It is duck weather here, nice and rainy. But it means no riding or running right now.

Liz, good luck with the treadmill. I do not know what brand it was, but a co worker had problems with his and it was one of the circuit boards. He tried to fix it here at work and I do not know if he ever did fix it. I do know he bought a second hand backup. And good luck with the hip!

Karen, welcome to the team! I guess it is rainy in Brooklyn also. I have some friends that live in Williamsburg, and go to the Music Hall (N 6th St) every few months. Might be there in June for DSO.

And Liz, can you add some races to the list? I am doing a duathlon on April 25th (off road) and one on May 9th (road). And I am registered for the W&D also.

On another note, I picked up a brochure for a new activity here. There is a zipline facility opening soon up at one of the ski areas. It looks like a lot of fun. http://www.ziplinenewyork.com/

Have a good week!

Augie

Thanks Augie, I've got your races added!

Yeah, the circuit board might be one of the problems.

That zipline place sounds great! That's something I want to do someday. It looks really fun...scary and exhilirating and fun!

Hello All,

Hope everyone had a great weekend. My trip to New York went OK, for my first time to the City I was in complete sensory overload the whole two days I was there, but loved every minute of it. Told the wife I can't wait to go back with the whole family. As for the test, I did not feel very good after it was done, of course six hours of testing will take it out of anyone. Now I have to wait a month to see how I did :confused3.

Got in an hour and a half workout this morning at the gym. I have decided I am going to give the knee a small jogging workout on Wednesday to see if it is healing OK, nothing to strenuous.

Liz glad you took that step and got the doctor called :thumbsup2 I am thinking you might want to start looking at new treadmills.

Karen welcome :wave2:

Carissa Great job on the run :cheer2:

Also thanks everyone for the well wishes for the test. I guess if I did not pass it will be another reason to go back to NYC, Hmmmm :woohoo:

Hi Karen :wave2:

I'm a newbie, but everyone is here is REALLY friendly & supportive.

Rainy here in South Jersey. Only did two miles on the treadmill. I get bored so easily. :sad1: Starting Wednesday it's supposed to be nice outside. YAY!

Good that you had a good time in NY, Dan! What part of the city did you stay at?

It is even nicer when the weather gets better!

Hey Ducks!

I'm trying to catch up with all the posting going on here.

Hi Karen! I'm planning on running the W&D 1/2, also. If my It band will let me get there...

Carissa - You're still my idol! You can do it, lady. Your progress is amazing to track on this thread. Remember when you were trying to run for just a few minutes at a time?!? Now look at you!

Liz - Glad you're having the tm looked at. But I'm much happier that you're having your knee looked at finally! Quality of life DOES matter. Really. Not doing what you love to do isn't healthy, in many aspects. I'm glad you're taking this step.

Dan - Hoping good thoughts for your test results. I can't say I've ever taken a day-long exam and felt good about it. When I took the Professional Engineer's exam (an 8 hour long exam), I knew I failed it. But alas! I am now a licensed engineer. You just never know...

Deb - Glad you're back in your shoes and running! Keep on truckin'!

My weekend in Jasper National Park was cool. The Canadian Rockies are like the US Rockies on steroids! Had a great time.

Gotta go right now, but I'll catch up with the rest of the Ducks later. Long weekend coming up. Woo hoo!

Augie I stayed over in lower Manhatten t the World Center Hotel, central to everything.

Renee Thanks I appreciate that, you just come out of those test feeling like your brain is mush

I know! I still can't believe I'm at this point. Today is another 25 minute run so we'll see how it goes.

Sounds like a gorgeous weekend! Do you have pictures to share? :goodvibes

:welcome: to Karen!

Has anyone seen the documentary The Spirit of the Marathon? I watched it the other night and it was really inspiring. Follows a bunch of different people as they prepare to run the Chicago Marathon and they go into the history of the marathon a bit. Netflix has it available in their "play instantly" so I watched it on our PS3. :thumbsup2

Lele-

I've trained on a treadmill for the last FIVE months! Just look at my location... explains everything. Anyhoo, I finally moved my ipod docking station to the basement and programmed more upbeat tunes to my favorites. Then I just keep the remote with me on the treamill so I can modulate the volume, skip songs, etc. I find it really makes the time go by much faster. Sing along!

Does anyone train on a treadmill? If so do you read while you are on it?

I have only run on a treadmill since my husband is deployed and I homeschool so no time alone for me to run outside. I haven't tried reading on the treadmill. I can't imagine I would do too well with that. :rolleyes1 Plus, I think the motion and trying to focus on such a close object would make me feel a bit motion sick.

I watch TV while I run now.

Thanks! We just got a contract on our house, so hopefully the next house I can save up and will get me a treadmill since I will have somewhere to put it. (we hardly have room to live, much less a treadmill, and I wouldn't trust our floors we live in a house that was built in the 40s) We will be moving in with my parents and mom has a treadmill in the basement which will be nice. I belong to a gym, but I hate doing the treadmill there, i'd rather do the classes.

I've tried a couple times, but I just read the same thing over and over. I didn't know if anyone had any suggestions on it. The gym I belong to has TVs, but its hard to focus on something b/c it seems like whenever I get into something, someone will change the channel... ugh it's very frustrating:headache:

I homeschool my two girls too!! My oldest is 11 and my neighbor will watch them for a hour so I can get out and run. I have no space here in Brooklyn to have a treadmill. I kind of get board running on one, although I do wish I had one the last couple of days.. The weather is unbearable!!! :scared1:

I decided to dust off the old sweatin' to the oldies video tape... Yup, a video tape, that is how old it is!! :lmao:

Yeah, that would be frustrating. Plus, can you hear them very well? I have to blast my TV when I'm running and it's right in front of me and I'm the only one watching!

Cool! :thumbsup2 Yeah, we had the rainy weather here too. But, the sun is out now. :goodvibes

We don't even own a VCR anymore. When our last one broke, we didn't bother replacing it and we donated all of our VHS tapes.

When I first started running on the treadmill last year I tried to read and it was pretty much impossible, too bouncy. Do people actually read on there? I don't know how they can do it! I also tried watching TV but found I really didn't like that. I listen to music. :thumbsup2

got out this morning to do a three mole run... the first mile was fine but I pooped out and walk/ran the rest.

felt good to get outside after all that rain!
