WOW! 16 Ducks during Marathon weekend! :cool1:

Has anyone had hip "discomfort?" I refuse to call it pain. I can run through it & it usually just flares up AFTER running (feels like I need to push them back). I'm guessing it is ITB related, but wanted your thoughts please.

Happy Thursday!! (I actually thought it was Wednesday so you are doing better than me)

I am not in a running mood today but will try a few miles on the tread mill. Maybe I will just put on Finding Nemo and see how far I make it through it at a slow pace.

With all the Holiday preparations it is difficult for me to fit these runs in but I will certainly do my best!!:dance3:

Good morning DDD's. I've got a race tomorrow. It's also DW's first race so I'm excited for her, but she's super nervous! lol.

My personal goals for tomorrow's race were slightly tweaked since I haven't run as much as I'd like lately due to work. I've only been getting in 2 runs a week (about 15 miles per week) as opposed to my normal 4 runs per week (25 miles per week), but I still my conditioning will hold up.

My 3 goals for tomorrow's Jingle Bell Jog (Albany, GA)

1. Finish Top 3 of my age group
2. Finish Top 40 overall
3. Finish in under 25 minutes (originally wanted to finish under 24 minutes which would be a PR, but I backed off that a little due to the lack of consistent running. I don't want to risk injuring myself)

Good luck to other Duckies running this weekend!

Good luck Debbie, Joe & Brandon at your races tomorrow!

I squeaked out 9.5 today.
Can't believe Marathon weekend is coming up so fast!!
Still debating if I'm gonna do the 5K too. :rolleyes1

Hello Ducks! Sounds like we are all keeping busy. And it looks like we have enough to stuff a whole elevator with Ducks!

Good luck to all who are doing races this weekend. I am doing a 5K Toy Trot on Sunday. I had a little pain my last 5k (last Sunday), the back of my left leg got a little tight, and my foot was hurting after the race. I have always thought it was a stress fracture, as it would hurt for a few days and then feel fine. Seems to only act up when i run, it isn't an issue when I bike. So I have been biking and swimming, no running since last weekend.

5 weeks to go!

Happy Sunday, Ducks!
Karin: nice job on the long run. :thumbsup2

Debbie and I did a 5K Saturday and I finished with a 28:39 time. I was very happy with that, the route was even a little hilly. I wore new shoes with the sports inserts I got from the foot doctor and I didn't have any foot pain. Debbie had a good run also, she finished in 33 minutes. And we got our picture taken with Santa :santa:.
I did a 14 mile ride on the stationary bike tonight. I need to get serious about the cross training and treadmill runs during the weekdays, I won't have much time on the weekends for long runs until after Christmas.
The Magic Kingdom is open from 8 am to 1 am next Saturday and I hope to be part of rope drop and closing, so that should give me some walking miles. I will try to post some pictures on FB next weekend.:hippie:
Have a good week everyone!
Joe

Unfortunately I missed on all 3 of my goals for the race this past Saturday, but was soooooo very close to them all.

Goal 1: Finish top 40 overall-finished 47 out of over 700 entries
Goal 2: Finish under 25 minutes-finished 25:14
Goal 3: Finish top 3 in age group-Finished 4th out of 20 in age group

Brandon - Hold your head up high. You did great!

Joe - Loved the pics posted over on FB. Looks like you and Deb had a GREAT time! AND you had a great finishing time to boot! :santa:

I think I may have figured out my calf strain thing. I've been wearing flats now since Thanksgiving and have no pain or soreness in my calves. I went out for my first run on Saturday since my 10K on Thanksgiving morning - hoping for 3 to 4 miles. At 5 miles, I still felt good, so I rounded it up to an even 10K and finished strong! I ran 4 miles tonight, a bit faster than Saturday, and felt good. So I'm hoping that I might have solved the calf injury thing. Now all I have to do is ramp it up in four weeks and I'm golden. Haa! We'll see. I'm gonna try 8 miles this Friday...

So when are the Ducks being thrown down the elevator shaft in early January? Friday evening?!? Or Saturday, after the half marathon? Has anyone picked a time? And has anyone volunteered to carry Liz in over their shoulder, as she's kicking and screaming? :scared1: No more defiance, Liz! Be one with the Duck Force!

Wish I could join you guys for a few drops down the elevator shaft. But seeing as how I'm doing this trip on the cheap, I've only got 1 day left on an old ticket and I'm saving it for Sunday at Epcot and MK. Have fun!!

Good job, Brandon, you bested me in some of your goals, I was 62 (out of 647) and only got a 6th in my age group. My time was a little faster, but there are just so many fast old guys, it is a matter of who shows up for a race. I got a 4th in age group on Thanksgiving and a 2nd the Sunday after, so sometimes i get lucky!

Renee, good that your leg woes seem to be over. Good job on the 5K, Joe, I have not been on fb to see the pics yet.

I am ok with either day for some elevator drops! I didn't look at the park hours.

Getting close to four weeks!

Ok DDDs...I know I have been MIA for a while, but I need ideas.

I started training for the Half in February 2011, because I had never run before in my life. Started with a 5K program and worked my way up. I can run at 8 miles with only three 20-second walk breaks. Woohoo!!! I can maintain a 10:15 pace for 8 miles. Woohoo! :cool1: I am finally getting to my 9-mile Sunday runs. Yay...

BUT, I feel like I have been running FOREVER. I have officially run out of steam. I am fighting with myself to run in the mornings.

I WILL not give up. I WILL finish with a 10:30 pace. But, any ideas how to not be so miserable during the next 4 weeks?

Thanks.

Seasons Greeting Ducks! :santa:

Wish I could join you for Marathon Weekend but looks like it will have to wait for next year (2013). In the meantime, I have signed up to do my very first Half Marathon in May - The SuperHero Half Marathon. Here's a link: http://www.superherohalf.com/index.html. I will be following Jeff Galloway's plan - has anyone had success with this? I am rather nervous as I have never run anything longer than a 5K but my dream is to run at Disney so I gotta get my butt in gear!

My plan after that is to run the Wine & Dine Half, so perhaps I will get to meet some of you there.

Karin - I believe it was you who had asked about hip discomfort? I definitely get it, but not so much while I am running but rather after I am done running. Unfortunately I got nothing for you as to why it is happening. I just figured that I have one hip that is higher than the other (don't most people?) so perhaps that is contributing to the problem?

Good Luck to everyone with their training. Can't wait to see pictures of Marathon Weekend and the Duck Drop!

Hey everyone :)

I'm pretty sure the plan is to meet up at DS for duck drop on Friday evening. :thumbsup2

Two weekends ago I did 8 miles. I've done my 5 and 8 mile "walk/runs" at a nearby park that has lots of inclines. It's a nice hike, but has been tough for me. My training this entire year has been almost non-existent. At this point, I plan to continue to take it easy and mostly walk to prevent a recurrence of last year's groin injury. So far I'm feeling great! And I'm able to average a 15 mm pace, which keeps me on track for the half. This weekend I'll be doing 10 miles on a flat, straight surface and think I'll have a better time with it. I'm going to try and walk it (sometimes I just want to run and I can be competitive with myself) and then race day I'll have no soreness and can put it all out there. That's the plan anyway. It would be nice to beat my time from last year (which should be easy to do), but as long as I finish and get my medal, I'll be happy. :goodvibes

Hi everyone.
Debbie and I are on a plane in the AM for WDW:cool1:
Friday is the plan for a Duck meet at Hollywood Studios around 7. Hopefully the Osborne lights are still going on and we can meet there, before the elevator ride. HS has evening magic hours that night. I know most of us have a early Saturday for the half, but who can sleep anyways, might as well enjoy the night.
I will try to get better information this weekend about when the Osborne lights end.
Have a good weekend, I will be posting from Disney.
Joe

Joe, you and Deb have a great trip! One month to go for me.

What is everyone's bib number? Mine is 31383.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

I have 42899. DH is 50411. This is my first year, so I have no idea what that means. I'm assuming it's not great, because I way over estimated my projected finish time. But DH's time is less than mine, and his number is higher. Confused...:confused3

What are the rules about the corrals? Can my DH come to my corral so we can run together?

My number is 70754. All relays runners are in the 70000s.

If you're not in the same corral, you can move back to his but he can't move up unless he shows proof of time at the expo.

My half marathon bib number is 31890.

I ran 8 miles on Friday morning. Went good. My calves are sore today. Not painful. Just muscle sore. I'm planning on running four days this next week, with a 10-miler on Saturday. Wish me luck!

Wonder how much training Joe is gonna get in this week while at WDW ;)

Train safe and smart, Ducks! Only four weeks left.

Ran the Rehoboth Beach Marathon today. Was a beautiful race, albeit very windy! Finished in 5:00:22. Mad I missed a sub 5 by 23 seconds. Grrrrrr!

Absolutely no training this weekend, but lots of walking and standing. In line for the safari now. I will try to put some extra workout time this week.
Hakuna matata!
Have a good weekend everyone.
