Donald's Breakfast Grrrr!

I agree, the photo should be included in the price of the meal or allow us to put it on photopass. I hate that I am pressured to buy the photo package when I just want the one photo for my scrapbook and maybe one for a frame.

I always take a couple pics of just DD with Donald & then we have the photog use our camera to get a couple of family pics.

DH bought the $30 pics the first year and I was so mad because we had the same picture on our camera. Then I realized that we could use them as Christmas gifts, so we kept the 5x7 & gave the 4x6's as gifts.

OP - so sorry your waiter did not pay attention to your table. We've had the same waiter both times and he's been wonderful! If you have that problem again, do as a pp said and flag down another table's waiter.

We ate there last week on March 22nd with a 8am reservation, I had heard you can skip that whole line for the photo in the beginning, which we did and got immediately seated. Donald did come by later on in the restaurant. I too, did not have a great server, she was not very nice, no smile or anything.

If you want the picture for "free" you are going to pay more for the meal which you thought was already over priced. By comparison...

Tusker House 18.99A 10.99C
CRT 44.80A 29.86C
Akershus 39.40A 23.42C

No thanks....Keep Tusker House reasonably priced. Even paying for the $30 picture it's still cheaper.

I have never received any pressure to buy the pictures. I always just say, "No, thanks."

however, if you are on the DDP the "cost" is the same for Akershus and Tusker House... 1 TS credit!

True. But, the actual cost of the meal is not. And, the tip "should" be larger at the more expensive places as you tip on the true cost of the meal.

You are correct that photo included meals are more, but I wanted to correct your prices above for the meals listed. Tusker House hasn't been $18.99 for a couple of years now. It's $22.99 non peak and $26.99 peak season:

Breakfast
1900 Park Fare A - $26.62 C - $14.90

Cape May Cafe, Tusker House & Crystal Palace A - $28.75 C - $15.97

Chef Mickey's A - $35.14 C - 19.16

Akershus A - $39.40 C - $23.42

CRT A - $54.51 C - $34.61 *** mandatory gratuity of 18% included ***

** these prices include peak season charge of $4.00/adult and $2.00/child plus tax, so if going during non-peak season, minus $4.00 plus 6.5% tax for correct pricing ***

I don't understand the issue with the photos (Donald not coming around is different). I have always had a cast member take a photo with my camera and then when they have come around with my photo said no thank or requested one not be taken at all by the photo pass person. They have always taken one with my camera with no problem.

My issue with these photos is all the paper/trees Disney is wasting by taking them/printing them and then people not buying them. I wonder how many photos are thrown away each day. Not very good in my book especially when Disney frequently advertises how you can do your part and help the environment. I do my part daily recycling, using plant based cleaners, cloth napkins, etc. Well in this area, I think Disney needs to do their part. They could easily come around with a laptop and have you look there and then print it or simply not do it at all.

I totally agree! Disney wastes a huge amount of resources as is: water, food, etc., but the photos drive us nuts. They are doing it, because many people want to see that actual photo in their hand, and due to many impulsive purchases right at the table, this sort of marketing works. It is highly wasteful. If they truly cared about the actual waste, they would give away or sell the photos at much cheaper prices. It's very elitist for them to print the photos, charge a ton for them, and then throw them away. Not cool at all...

Good to know about the rain! Thanks for sharing that.

Have you had your photo taken with Donald since end of March 2010? Donald has been outside since that point, except for rain days, as mentioned above.

So, are you saying Donald did table rotation visits like he used to do? Was it a rain day?

Important to clarify, as there is conflicting info on this thread, Tiger

The picture that I posted on page one was from September 2010. It was not raining, and we got both the official pic with him outside, and then he came inside and mingled like the rest of the characters. It was between 9 and 9:30am September 28th 2010, and once again, it was not raining.

Thanks for that info - seems they have changed it then. In July, it was just Donald outside, and we didn't go when we there 2 weeks ago, as we don't like Donald being outside. I wonder how they determine what Donald's schedule is going to be?

Something I did notice in your photo though, is that there are no other people around. I see another poster noticed that too - that is not the norm at Tusker House, so perhaps he comes inside when the restaurant is not busy. I noticed the lack of people in there right away, and I can't imagine there were people waiting outside, so it must have been a very slow day.

This is really good to know!Tiger

^^^EXACTLY THIS!^^^

And you know if you refuse your pics, they just trash them.:sad2: I mean, somewhere there's huge dumpsters just chuck FULL of our refused Disney character dining pics. Oh, how I'd love to find those!!!!

Not to mention our $100-$200 meals should get us more than just cherrios and cokes. Not even kidding. My 3 year old ate cherrios and a banana at Chef Mickey's. Awesome.

i believe i read on here that you can take a pic of the receipt w/the number and even if you don't buy the pic at the meal, you can get it on your photopass...

The only way you can get the code from the receipt is if you purchase the photo. ;)

i read it here, have not tried it... it's on the photo receipt, but typically when we get the photo, we ask to be given a few minutes to peruse it, pass it around and then decide... that's when you would take the pic, not w/the CM standing there (presumably)...

The CM's hang around your table when they hand you your photo to look at. Personally, I wouldn't try taking the pic out of the folder to write down or photograph the code right in front of them.

I totally agree. Either include it in the price of the breakfast, or find another way to show people the photo. But to print them all and just throw them out is a huge waste. I hope at least they are recycling the paper.

We have always found this to be the case too, they are right there as you look a the photo. I don't think they even handed it to me. If you do buy the photo the number is very small and along the side. I don't see how you would get the number without buying the photo. It is much easier to just give the photopass photographer your camera, they have always been willing to take a picture with my camera.

One of the reasons I like the Tusker House breakfast is because of the cost being so low, and not being forced to buy the pic.

Donald does, indeed, come inside, I have pics both inside and out with him. He just doesn't come in and constantly mingle.

The $30 pictures scam is the same at every character meal, not just Tusker House. At least there you get your picture with actual "live" Donald. At Chef Mickey's they take your pic in front of a Mickey statue. Now THAT is offensive to me.

Donald no longer comes inside. We refused the photo knowing that they charge you for it and they told us that Donald doesn't come in.

There is only one Donald and he can't be taking photos and be in the restaurant at the same time.

Daisy is inside and wears an awesome bracelet.

We have been many, may times and Donald had always come to the table, as have Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Goofy, Chip and Dale.

You do not have to purchase the photo (though we have if the photo is good), but we always gt one taken with our own camera outside, the photographer is ALWAYS willing and happy to do that.

This is what we do, too. We'll ask to see if the photographer would mind to take our picture with our camera and then we'll pose for theirs. Several times we've been really happy with the picture, so we're more than happy to spend the extra money.

As has been mentioned countless times on this thread, Donald no longer comes to tables since March 2010. Unless there is a rain issue, he may come inside.

Also, Chip and Dale are not currently at this breakfast.

Just want to clarify, as so many people don't read through the entire thread, and this is misinformation - Donald used to be inside, but for the past year, he has not been.

But this isn't entirely true. We need to ammend this, because I had him in September 2010, 6 months after March 2010, when it isn't raining, and so did at least one other person on this thread. So he MAY come inside during slower times of the year.
