Donald's Breakfast Grrrr!

We have been many, may times and Donald had always come to the table, as have Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Goofy, Chip and Dale.

You do not have to purchase the photo (though we have if the photo is good), but we always gt one taken with our own camera outside, the photographer is ALWAYS willing and happy to do that.

Yay for Seattleites! :thumbsup2

But this isn't entirely true. We need to ammend this, because I had him in September 2010, 6 months after March 2010, when it isn't raining, and so did at least one other person on this thread. So he MAY come inside during slower times of the year.

I wish Donald came inside on our trip. We also had a September 2010 breakfast and Donald stayed outside. Hmm... our breakfast was in the first wave (8am). When was yours? I wonder if Donald comes inside later in the morning.

We were there the last week of September, I guess it would have been around 9:30am? Between 9:15 and 9:30.

I guess I misunderstood, as I thought he was inside only due to rain based on those few posts? So sorry about that.

I guess it's probably based on how busy the restaurant is, and perhaps the character and handler make that decision at that moment?

Thanks, Tiger

We ate there in January and had an absolutely fantastic server. She was always on top of drinks and cleared everything right away. She told us that we were the first table to meet the characters and came by just prior to each character to let us know they were on their way.

Donald was only outside and we had Mickey, Daisy and Goofy inside. I thought the characters did not spend much time at our table, but it was our first time at a character meal that we didn't have really young kids with us. I thought it might have been because I have older kids, but I read another review of the restaurant from the same morning and another person felt it was rushed as well.

I've enjoyed the food at Tusker house breakfast, but I think if I was going to do another character breakfast, I would go to Ohana. We've had much better character interaction there.

I do not care for the new set up with Donald outside. They not only took Donald from coming to the tables they took Minnie too.

I am doing two reservations here. I will see if there is more character interaction with the later time.

I wonder if they are more rushed as they now only have 3 characters going to the tables.

Minnie has NEVER been a regular part of this breakfast. At breakfastasaurus it was Donald, Mickey, Goofy and Pluto. When it moved to Tusker and became Safari breakfast, they replaced Pluto with :lovestrucDaisy.

I don't have time to go through all my photos from 2008 and 2009 but I'm almost 100% positive Minnie was there.

I even asked last year and was told she isn't here anymore.

I could have sworn we saw Minnie here at some point too, but I just checked through the last 4 years of photos, and she was not in any of them, so no Minnie for us. Perhaps another case of a surprise visit?

to compare it to other character meals...
Chef Mickeys - you also have to buy the photos in addition to the meal.
Norway Princess - I believe this is the only character meal where the picture is included in the cost of the meal. (eta: just read the pp - apparently you do have to pay for the picture here as well)
Cindy's Table - you also have to buy the photos.

there may be a few others..that is all I can think of at the moment. ;)

When we ate at Norway in December, the photos were free. Well, included in the cost of the meal, but it was free dining at that time. :goodvibes

You don't have to buy the picture and I always ask teh CM to take a pic with my camera and they always do.

That was what I was going to say too. We didn't even have to ask them to take our photo with our camera, the photographer said, do you want us to use your camera as well? Of course we do! If nothing else, it's another chance for a good pic.. ya know, in case someone closes their eyes or something! :)

I'm with the OP, the way they present Donald now and peddle the pictures at your table at Tusker House bothered me when we were there a few weeks ago. We had seen the same thing at CRT with Cindy & Akershus with Belle but at least those pics were included with the meal (I know that makes it a more expensive package but at least I knew about it when I booked).

They do a similar thing at 1900 Park Fare (at least at dinner), and a character doesn't even pose with you; your family has to stand in front of a drop for a pic that they come around to sell you later.

The photo pitch isn't that big a deal but does make a difference to me; I might pick Cape May Cafe breakfast over Tusker House next time.

I'm with surferdave and the op too. In 2008 we LOVED Tuskerhouse. Something felt really different about it in 2010. It could be just the people that day.. but it was really pushy, and forced. We didn't want our picture taken outside but didn't have much of a choice. It was odd.
Now it was free dining time so it was busy, but it felt like being herded. There was just something odd and pushy about the whole thing.

I also don't like that the only time you see Donald is outside. I think breakfast WITH Donald should have Donald go around to the table and sign autographs if the kids desire. (He wouldn't sign books outside.)

We actually didn't even wait to have our picture taken with Donald because we had early ADRs so we could be out of there by rope drop and the line was far too slow. So my kids never saw Donald at all.

Tusker House breakfast for an adult--$18.99

Akershus for an adult--$39.40

How much is Tusker House charging for the picture? Thirty dollars? Even paying out of pocket for the picture, Tusker House is still cheaper.

Just wanted to clarify that Tusker House breakfast is not $18.99. There is no character breakfast on property for that amount any longer.

Peak season $28.75 (tax included)
Non Peak season $24.48 (tax. incl)

It is cheaper than Akershus, but just wanted to alert you to the correct price.

Here is my 2011 buffet thread, with current prices listed:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2627843

Hope this helps, Tiger :)

Thanks for the price update. After you post, that is the third different price I have seen. If that price is with tax, is the $20.99 listed on the Dis dining site the right price before tax?

Even so, it shows that a buffet that doesn't force the picture on you is considerably cheaper than one that does. I'd rather have the option not to buy and save the $$$.

you see more characters at Ashekus, CRT and Chef Mickey's. I always assumed that played into the pricing as much as the photo does.

Btw, Donald never comes inside, so you only get that one chance to get a picture w/him. .

The photographer was very happy to take a picture of not only my son, but my whole family with Donald with our camera after he took the official picture. We didn't buy the picture either but have great pictures with Donald from the breakfast.
