When we were at CM's this past January, he was the character that was out in the lobby area. Well not really a lobby, but close to the food (not in where the tables were) if that makes sense. He was great. When my GD handed him her autograph book, he held it in one hand, wouldn't sign it, and with the other hand kept pointing to himself and holding up one finger. My son finally told her that he wanted her to say he was number 1. My mouthy 8 y/o GD put both hands on her hips and said 'no way, this is Mickey's place, he's number 1'. It was the line Donald was waiting for. He threw her book to the floor, started jumping up and down, and had one of his royal tantrums. He then picked up my GD's hand, kissed it, and signed both her autograph book and an autograph t-shirt she had. Signing them 'Donald's #1', at which point she shook her finger at him, and said 'Mickey's gonna be mad at you'. Donald then gave her a big hug. We got some really cute pictures of his temper tantrum, my GD shaking her finger at him, and him hugging her and kissing her hand.
It was extremely busy that night, but Donald never seemed to get in a hurry and took his time with each child. He seemed to have an instinct for which kids' to tease and which kids might be shy and just want an autograph, without any of his antics. He definitely pegged my GD right. She doesn't have a shy bone in her body and was ready to mouth right back at him. They had everyone around there rolling with laughter. I don't know which was more funny, seeing his temper tantrum or a small 8 y/o tapping her foot, shaking her finger at him, telling him off, and then the look on her face afterwards when he kissed her hand.
