Dolphins in Depth ?

:fish: :fish: :fish: :fish:

Never done the dolphin one, but ds did DiveQuest and loved it. He regularly goes diving off Palm Beach and said that diving at EPCOT was one of his best dives ever. Of course he loved being part of the attraction!

We did the dolphins tour last time we were at the world. We had a blast. They meet you up front at Epcot and take you through a side door to the back stage area of the living seas. They show you some of the back stage areas like where they make the food. They take you back to the back stage dolphin pool where the dolphins are swimming in and out watching you and they tell you about how they work with them, the research they do etc. Then you don wet suits and go out to the main tank. The tank is divided so the meany fish like the sharks can't get you and you climb out on top of what is an observation window below but a sitting area up above. There is a bench and the water is COLD. The Dolphins aren't forced to participate but the ones we had were really cool. You learn about their parts and get to basically "hold" them. They are totally solid muscle. They teach you a few commands to give the Dolphins which is really cool to watch them respond. At the end they gave us vhs tapes and t-shirts.

The tour is $140 and yes, it is worth it. It is very informative and the time spent with Calvin & Rainier is well worth the price. The money from the tour is donated to the WDW Conservation Fund.

I just did the tour again last week. They now take a picture of you with your arm around one of the dolphins (instead of a video) and you still get a t-shirt (sizes are S to 4 XL).

The water is not too cold -- it's about 70 - 72 degrees, but it is "refreshing" when you first step into it. However, after a few minutes, you are used to it. The odd part is seeing some of the other fish who can swim through the fence coming to the platform and swimming around your feet. You have to be careful where you step!

Also check out Discovery Cove over at Sea World. Its a great program, and there are other exhibits/pools with fish in it to see. You can spend all day there!
