Dolphin swim questions!

Ok heres the deal, my nephew will be a week shy of 6 when we travel....the rules for the swim(not offered by disney) say they have to be 6, do you think that he is close enough, anyone have experience with this?

Sorry I do not know, I am in the same boat except my DD will be 7 and I could only find places that say 8 and up, can you tell me the name of the place you found that says 6 is okay? TIA

A week shy of 6 with an adult in with him, I would say no problem. I really don't think they stick to the rules that much. When we went, there were 2 little girls added last minute to make up the group of 6, no adults in with them "as the rules" state. I'm not too good with ages, but they looked awfully young. Have you emailed Dolphin Discovery and chatted with anyone about it? They are very nice there, and are quick to respond to you.

We loved the swim, would do it again in a heartbeat, it is well worth the cost!

Hi,

Aimee the first poster said the rules were 6. I just checked Dolphin Discovery website and they say 8. I booked directly with Dolphin Discovery in Cozumel. When we went, last minute they added two little girls, who one of which could have been 8, but the other, no way. The parents did not go in with them, they stood up on the landing taking pictures. You might want to just email them and see what they say. If your DD is a strong swimmer, they might bend a bit. Good Luck, it's worth it!

Do you really have to be a strong swimmer? I know some adults who did this excursion in Nassau and in their video, everyone in the group had to wear life vests. Just wondering as my 11 yr old can swim but not sure he's a strong swimmer in the ocean.

Everyone had to wear a life vest. You did have to swim out to the middle of the lagoon, one of the trainers was out in the water, and if you did not swim out there fast enough, he came and pulled you out. When you do the dorsal tow with the two dolphins, you also have to be strong enough to hold on while they pull you through the water.

My plan so far is to do the 7 day land and sea package with 3 days at WDW and 4 days on the ship. The 4 day cruise stops in nassau, freeport and castaway cay. I was thinking about not going to freeport but staying onboard for "a full day at sea". Nassau has the dolphin encounter and freeport has both a dolphin encounter and a dolphin swim. Im sure my daughters would rather do the dolphin swim then the encounter, by the time we go on our cruise they will be 12 and 14. I was reading the above posts and it seems that nassau also has a dolphin swim. I went to the website but Im still a little confused. The dolphin swim at nassau is not one of the shore excursions on the disney cruise line website. Do I book this seperately? When I go to nassau I also wanted to go to Discover Atlantis. Will I have time to do that and the dolphin swim? If I do have to book the dolphin swim seperately, Im a little worried about wandering off and being away from everyone else. I have never been on a cruise before and my only trip out of the US was to jamaica where we were warned to stay on the resort and not "wander away from the group". Is nassau anything like jamaica? My other option is to go to freeport and do the dolphin swim there or just let my daughters do the dolphin encounter at nassau. But I really wanted to have a full day at sea to enjoy some of the shows and activities on the ship. I would appreciate and welcome any advice from cruise veterans, as I want my first cruise trip to be a wonderful experience. Also, when you go to the Islands for your shore excursions what do you do with your personal belongings while you are snorkeling, swimming, etc.... I wouldnt be able to carry my money with me in the water. Are there lockers nearby to keep your things?

There is a phone # on the website to book the nassau swim. They do have lockers there, or at least that what it says I haven't done this yet so i'm hoping too that they have them. I will ask for sure when i call today I have a couple of questions to ask them.

Know what you mean about jamaica. we were there on a cruise in 1998 & was told it can be bad. to only ride in certain cabs, etc.
I haven't been to nassau or freeport since 1996 so i can't really comment on them. When we were there we walked around the town & did some shopping and never had a problem, But as always there is good and bad people everywhere.
