I returned this week from my trip to WDW. I just wanted to report to those of you who booked the Dolphin on Hotwire. Now, I had never stayed there before, but I couldn't pass up the savings. I got 2 nights for $120 a night. This was 2/21 and 2/22. I had sent a request in asking for a recently renovated room and I received that. Unfortunately, my view was the bus stop! I'm not sure I've ever had a worse view at any hotel (OK maybe when I was in Spain and had a brick wall). I didn't complain or ask for a room change though because I figured I got what I paid for. There were plenty of empty rooms on the 4th floor though, all overlooking the water. It was disappointing, but we figured that we were not spending much time at the resort those days and the remainder of the trip in Poly concierge would more than make up for it.

That said, we won't stay at the Dolphin again. It just didn't have that Disney "magic" for us. It just felt like a hotel. I know lots of you swear by the S/D and I'm sure it has some wonderful rooms and locations. Just thought I'd report my experience. :sunny:

Sorry you didn't enjoy your view and missed the "magic".....I'm a DVCer who has loved my extra days at the S/D ....That said...I definately would have asked for a different room....especially if they weren't fulll...they worst they could have said was no....

We lucky luck to have a water view when we stayed at the Dolphin and we was a beautiful view. I am sorry to here your room was not what you would have liked.

I agree with you about the Dolphin not feeling like Disney although it is a very nice hotel. We probably won't stay at the Dolphin again although it is the one hotel we can can gete really good rates at from the UK

We also checked in on 2/21 for one night. We paid $109 on hotwire. At checkin I asked if we were getting a renovated room and she said no but changed it so we could. She also said she'd upgrade us also. So when we got to the room (6005) it was renovated and had a view of the Swan and the bridge to the boardwalk.

Did you ask what kind of view you were getting when you checked in?

I kind of feel the same about the "Disney Magic" but the location and price we paid made up for it. I would stay here again with a great rate.

I'm sorry, but what is the point of your post? You requested a renovated room and got it. You seem to be complaining about the view, but admit you didn't ask for a room change because you 'got what you paid for'. All hotels, including Disney properties, have some rooms with lousy views. Unless a hotel is completely full, they will almost certainly let you change rooms. You claim 'There were plenty of empty rooms on the 4th floor though, all overlooking the water.' First of all, how did you know they were empty? And secondly, if you knew there were lots of empty rooms, why didn't you ask to be moved? I just don't understand what you're complaining about.

I am amazed at the number of posters who book S/D at deeply discounted rates and still get upgraded. Tigger Woods is correct you got what you paid for AND what you asked for.

Tigger Woods, it wasn't a complaint. In prior posts, some people were wondering what type of view they got when utilizing Hotwire. I was simply letting those people know the type of room view that I had. Had I really been upset with my view, I would have asked for something a little different. How did I know that there were empty rooms? Well, I guess I just assumed that they were empty as I walked back to my room at 10pm and saw no lights on in room after room. Yes, all hotels have some type of terrible view, but I am more willing to accept that terrible view when I haven't paid $350 a night for it. We just laughed it off and went on with our day. A better view would not have changed my opinion about the S/D though.
