I got an AP just to book the room at the AP rate (and hopefully can use it before Dec next yr) at the Dolphin. I did not get it until we arrived at the airport so I would have it upon checkin. I was so excited at checkin that I did not even realize until after we got to the room that the lady that checked us in never asked to see it, but I kept thinking they might want to see it at checkout. However, they have express checkout so no one ever knew if I had one or not. I am an honest person and my conscience would not let me get that rate without having the pass, but I guess someone could checkin without it and say you were going to buy it when you got to the park and would stop by before you checked out to show it. If not, I guess you could buy a park hopper and save a couple hundred bucks. I think if people book a room at a certain rate that requires a membership or special pass, the hotel should verify. Maybe this is why the AP rate availability runs out so fast.

When we went in Oct and stayed at the Wilderness Lodge we also were never asked to show our pass.

We bought our annual pass last year at the airport, using our DC card. When we got to the hotel I kept waitingfor them to aks to see it..nothing. Finally, I said, did you need to see my ap card..and she said no, the DS at the airport put it on the computer..you are all set. I used my DC card and they had my name already.

Hi,
When we checked into the Swan a couple of weeks ago, we were asked to show our annual passes.

I stayed at both the CBR and the Boardwalk a couple of weeks ago on AP rates, and wasn't asked to show it at either resort. I even asked both times if they needed to see it and was told it wasn't necessary.

I'm like BC--I'm too honest to stay at a resort at an AP rate without having an AP in my pocket, but it does make you wonder how many people would do that.

I have had an AP rate at Swan, Dolphin and a few of the Disney Resorts. While the Disney resorts asked about 1/2 the time, CSR and Polynesian and CR 1x, most did not. We have always been asked at Swan and Dolphin and once at the Swan while my AP was in the checked bags with the bellman I was "encouraged" to produce it asap which I did. Another time at All Stars she just told me to return with it at my convenience. DH had the passes at the food court with the kids so that was easy!

Just because a few of us have not been asked on occasion I would not assume you could get an AP rate without one. I was told that if you didn't have the AP the room would revert back to the most expensive rate. Better off with AAA or a Code than and AP rate with no AP - YMMV.

My thoughts on this -

Disney is computerized!! When you purchase an AP, they have your name, address, etc.! When you book your reservation, they have your name, address, etc.! When you check-in to a Disney resort, they have your name, address, etc.!

Last week on our way to Orlando, we stopped in Ocala, to purchase my AP. No one at AKL ever asked for my AP, and we had booked with AP rates and were charged AP rates. I would NEVER try to check-in without an AP or voucher in hand, if I had booked with AP rates!

Don't you all think that the computer situation could explain this not asking to see the AP itself? Has anyone without a valid AP tried to check in with AP rates before purchasing the voucher even?

It sounds like the computer situation DOES let the CM's know who has an AP.

In March I purchased an AP at TTC then checked in at WL an hour later with AP rate. They didn't ask. Then we transferred to AKL with AP rate. They didn't ask. Then to PO with AP rate. They asked. I think it's partly random depending on the CM but the computer theory makes sense as well.

I'm not too sure about that computer theory. When I checked in, I had not yet activated my pass that I had purchased from the Disney Store yet. I did use my Disney Club card when I purchased it, but how would they know that I didn't purchase the annual pass as a gift for someone else if it wasn't activated yet?

I checked in at CBR last month with an AP rate. Not only the cm not ask me for the AP, he asked me if I needed to buy any tickets or passes! I was by myself (in Orlando for business) so it wasn't that someone else in my party might need a pass.

When we checked into AKL last week, all the CM said was "So you've got your APs right?" He never asked to see them though.

If the computer knew who had AP's, why would they ever ask anyone to show it? As tjmw2727 was "encouraged" to produce it as soon as possible sounds a bit threatening. Why would they ask someone to round up their spouse or come back by to show it if they already knew they had one?

I think the computer theory is not correct either. I had not purchased an AP yet when I checked in at about 11:00pm at night. I was worried about the whole situation from the time I booked an AP rate at WIlderness Lodge. I new I would arrive well after closing for most places selling the AP's but I didn't want to take a chance and loose a voucher. I called the front desk directly to ask about how to handle my situation (I never gave them my name). I was told not to worry. My rate was set in the computer. They didn't care how I got it. I asked about showing proof and was told they never asked anyway. Sure enough they never did.

I've always been surprised at that as well. On my last trip, nobody asked to see it at any of the resorts.

we got our vouchers yesterday and the CM did enter info (name address ect) into the computer, not the normal check writing procedure. it is hard for me to believe given the fact they seem to know so much about you they do not have the DS connected to their system also...I wonder if anyone has ever checked OUT without a valid ap...that would show they don't know. I am guessing it shows up when you activate it and then you get the rate since you don't get charged till checkout. Wasn't that at the Swan or Dolphin where they demanded it? if so could they not be connected since their ap rates are different as well as ownership. tried to ask the cm but she was already having a hard time since she said they don't sell many APs and there was a line forming.
