Dolphin Lake View Rooms

I just got the government rate for a standard room at the Dolphin for Christmas week. Since I am Starwood Gold Preferred, I got an automatic upgrade to lake view. The other times that we stayed at the Dolphin we were able to upgrade to an Epcot view room at check-in. Since this time we will be there at a very busy time, I am not counting on an upgrade. Just wondering what you face in a lakeview room? Is it MGM? The Swan?
Thanks!

Your room could be facing that direction, it could also look straight out too, as that's also in the direction of Crescent Lake. I've always found the view descriptions to be confusing!

Here's looking towards the direction of MGM from the Swan:

And part of Crescent Lake and the pool area

Here's another lake view from the Dolphin, we were on the 2nd floor this trip:

We also boked standard at the Dolphin and were bumped to Lake view (Starwood members, repeat guests, long length of stay - 12 nights).

Not sure where we will be - we asked for a view of the Grotto pool if available.

I will post our room location (sorry we do not have a digital camera) when we get back.

We will be at the Dolphin 4/1/07 to 4/13/07

From your signature, looks like you will be at WDW for Christmas 2007.

You can PM me after 4/13/07 and I will decribe our room and view.

Have a magical vacation !

We were on the 9th floor, east wing. I think it was listed as a "resort view" but we had a great view of the boat dock and MGM in the background. Staying at the Dolphin was wonderful. Any view you have will be a plus :thumbsup2

I have the Dolphin booked for 9 nts standard/traditional room in July....We have the Starwood Gold card, too, and I was told by SPG member services that upgrades may or may not happen - depends on what's available at check in. It sounds like you already know you have this upgrade...I am just wondering how? :confused3

We have only stayed there once before, so I am just curious how these complimentary SPG upgrades actually work. What would the upgrade from standard be to? Resort view with or without balcony?? Our past Dolphin stay was club level which is now sadly gone.

PS....love the view pictures! On our previous stay at the Dolphin we had a pretty view of the boat dock, Swan, and BWI area, but no balcony as it was CL.

Thanks for any info,

Lives4Disney :)

We're SPG gold, too, and have been told the same thing by several people both at SPG and the Swan. Upgrades are issued IF available at time of check-in. That said, we have always landed an Epcot view balcony room during Easter and Christmas breaks. Maybe we've just been lucky?

WOW! Those pics from Drmwvr and Blondie are AWESOME! I am getting so excited for my first trip to the Dolphin! We have a standard view reserved but became SPG specifically for this trip, hoping for an upgrade. I would rather have a "lesser" view with a balcony, though.

As long as I am not looking at a roof top or dumpster area, I will be THRILLED!:cool1:

Thank you! I will take you up on that offer! I hope that you have a magical vacation as well!

The woman who took my reservation told me that since I was Gold Preferred that my first upgrade was automatic. She said that right off the bat she was able to guarantee me a lake view room (this is confirmed on my reservation). She said that it would be POSSIBLE to get a further upgrade upon check-in. Now I have stayed at the Dolphin twice before, and I have never been upgraded automatically when I made the ressie. I must say though that both times I was booked in a standard room and both times I got upgraded to a balcony room with an Epcot view. Gotta love that!

I just read that you made your ressie through Starwood. I made mine directly with the Swan and Dolphin. Maybe that is the difference :confused3

DisneyFanatik-If you could please PM me also, I would really appreciate it! Or maybe just post on the "NEWEST DOLPHIN...." thread. I am subscribed to that one. I would love to see the view. Right now I am guaranteed a king bed, the gal making the ressie said that since it was an anniversary she would confirm that we got a king. I asked her that if a comp unpgrade became available but with queen beds, we would take that gladly! She made note of that on my reservation.

We had the exact same view! I couldn't get enough of it!

Curious if your what kind of room upgrade you received, if any? We use a Gov't discount and just upgraded to SPG Gold. In the past, we haven't received an upgrade at either the Swan or the Dolphin. At the Swan, we were able to see Tower of Terror and at the Dolphin we could see Cinderella's castle at a distance.

DH and I have ressie's for the beginning of the F&W Festival at the Swan, and surprising the kids for Christmas at the Dolphin. I hope we will get a upgrade at both resorts!

I make the reservations via Swan Dolphin rather than Starwood.

Thanks for any info!! Hope you had a nice vacation!!

Hi - Pooh2001 here - Sorry it took me a while to get back to this post.

Our upgrade to Lake view. We asked for the West outside wing which over looks the pool.

We got room 8175- it had a balcony too !
Great view of Mt. Everest in AK, ToT in Studio's, the pool, the beach, part of the lake (where the swan boats are)

The beds were Heavenly - just like the name of them.

Picabu's and the laundry were on our side of the resort - just down our West wing elevator.

We never heard a peep from other rooms - and it was Easter week.

You will love the resort !
