So on our trip the pool will be closed at Swan and Dolphin. Can we use another one at another resort?

The Swan/Dolphin have more than one pool. I would contact the resort and ask what they can do for you. Remember Disney doesn't own Swan/Dolphin.

When is your trip? They haven't officially announced any closures, as far as I know.

I called. The pool will be closed during our trip in October. :-(
They told me that there are 3 other pools that will be open. Still isn't the grotto pool though!

They need to get it together. On FB, they're saying 2013 ....

Sorry about the Grotto pool, but at least there are other pools to choose from at your resort!

What excitement will there be for kids to swim in a lap pool or a kiddie pool. I am hoping that the dolphin/swan does something for the guests who will not be having their main pool open during their stay.

What else can they do? Refurbishments occur; I would roll with it.

Some one on another thread just called today and were told the pool will not be closed in 2012. A mod needs to pull all these posts together, I think. There seem to be at least 3 going, not counting the S/D thread.

You don't just "roll with it" when it comes to the grotto pool. :cool1: It is a very unique and beautiful area of the resort. In fact, this area is part of the whole "resort" of the resort. It's not like we're complaining about a small pool at a HoJo being closed down.

Swan/Dolphin has posted twice in the last 7 hours on their facebook page that the renovations on the grotto pool have been postponed until 2013. They say when they have the actual dates in 2013 they will post them on the facebook page. The S/D facebook page will hopefully be a good source going forward for pool info.

Both the Swan and the Dolphin have unthemed pools as well as the joint Grotto pool. So you'll still have a pool to swim in.

But they aren't Disney operated, so you can't use Disney operated pools.

I contacted Starwood about our upcoming trip on Twitter today. They responded saying they called the hotel, and the planned October closure is cancelled.

Cheers,

Having children swim in a lap pool, the fun will last around 20 minutes. When there is a large pool with a waterfall and slide, kids can enjoy it for hours. I do not plan on "rolling with it", when swimming activities will be a large part of the day on a sweltering day in Sept. Since the dolphin is on disney property, disney should step up and let the resort guests use their pools over in the boardwalk area. I am sure the dolphin pays a pretty penny to be on disney property.

This is not a Disney operated resort. Just like you can't get the dining plan and you can't use Magical Express.

Why should Disney just step up and let these guests who aren't paying to stay in their resorts let them swim in their pools?

None of the value resorts have waterfalls and slides. Those guests aren't able to use the other pools on Disney property. Just like the Disney resort guests can't use the Grotto pool.

there is a DIS-er at the S/D this week and has been working with them to resolve some significant issues with the grotto pool. they were comped wristbands to SAB.

My guess is that has taken a life of its own and turned into S/D guests will be given a similar opportunity when the grotto pool is closed for renovations.

I could see them doing this with one family, but all the Swan and Dolphin guests? The YC and BC guests would be fuming!!

maybe not in January :lmao:

But September or October, absolutely!

I'm holding a late September reservation - going to wait it out and see what happens. There's no reason to consider changing it about it until more information is available from the resort.

and I agree with the PP. There are too many threads on this. I mentioned that yesterday. LOL

...

I take it you have never been in January. We were there once in early January and it was in the 80's the entire week. We spent a lot of time at Blizzard Beach only because Typhoon Lagoon was closed for renovation.

when I went in January a couple of years ago, there were freeze warnings. It was COLD! I think the warmest high was in the 50's. No one was swimming at Coronado Springs. We were bummed, that's a fantastic pool!
