for the past few years we've just transferred our cash into dollars bit by bit until we have it all and taken currency with us.
this year my hubby overheard someone at the postoffice saying its better to exchange when in the US?!:confused3

any thoughts?

i've heard a bit about the fairfx card and was thinking of going for this, but not sure how easy it is to use when we're out there??

thoughts and recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!!!:lovestruc:worship:

We have the Fairfx card and you can get it through Matalan website for free.

I dont think it would be cheaper to buy over there, but someone else might know for sure.

The rate with Fairfx is really good compared to the high street banks. We have used this card for the last 2 trips and it has been great for us. We then take a few £100 pounds in dollars with us as well:thumbsup2

I am just surmising, but I think that the Post Office was referring to their PO Credit Card where you don't change the money, but you spend on it when you are there and you get the online bank rate, which is higher than any currency exchange rate. Some prefer to do this on their own credit cards. The PO one is good in that there are no fees involved for purchases.

We use the PO card, got one just for holidays, there is no charge to use it and you get better rate when they calculate the exchange rate on the bill! Have used many times and think it best way to go.

like the idea of not worrying if the unexpected happens, DH was ill first time we went to states cost over $1000, we had to pay upfrount so glad we had a card!

Hi just a quick question for you guys that already have the fx card how do you top up online is it via debit card or bank transfer and how long before the funds appear on your card thanks

I do mine via debit card and the funds appear instantly.
