I have heard several people complain about the car they rented at Dollar, but no specific problems were mentioned. If you rented from Dollar and had a problem, could you please tell me what went wrong? Thanks.

The last time we rented from them we rented a minivan and drove away thinking everything was great. Unfortunately the next morning when they went to get the car in the valet lot at the BW it had a flat tire. Seems the tire had a slow leak and went flat overnight. We called Dollar and were told we would have to return the car to the airport to get another one. That meant we had to take the flat off, put on the cheap spare and take time out from our vacation to return to the airport, go through the paperwork, and then drive back to the BW. We have not rented from them again. We stick with Alamo/National and in all the years we have rented from them we have never had any trouble.

That is terrible. Anyone else have any input? Saving over $300 is a big motivator, but I dont need problems!

I just picked up a minivan today at Dollar (MCO). So far, so good. It does have 36,000 miles on it and a few dings but, otherwise, it is very clean, doesn't smell like smoke or anything and we've driven it around all day.

On another thread, I posted that I was told that most of the rental car companies have scaled back their fleet and are keeping cars in the fleet longer than they had been. I was also told by the agent that if you didn't have a reservation people weren't getting cars. When my mom was down in Orlando in June for a business trip, this was the case for many people. So, due to the economy, the rental cars have scaled back. You may find a similar situation with older cars at every place. Not sure.

Anyway, so far so good with my Dollar rental.

I probably rent a car 10-20 times a year. Every time I have a choice of companies, and I think I've picked Dollar 90-95% of the time. They've always been good to me and I love the Dollar Express program. My only compalint is that they don't let Dollar Express members pick their own cars at MCO.

I have wondered why they don't let customers pick their own car (I usually use Alamo for their prices and the ability to pick my own car). Dollar Express is definitely the way to go if you use Dollar.

I actually booked my daughter and her new husband through Dollar last month for their honeymoon with Dollar code OOAG. The code gave them the best rate at the time, and they really wanted a Charger (since they didn't want to pay the going rate for a convertible).

They signed up for Dollar Express and didn't have to wait at all. When they asked about a Charger, they were told they didn't have any available. They told the agent that they were on their honeymoon and had been looking forward to trying a Charger. The agent asked them to wait a moment, then came back and told them that he got permission to "unlock" (not sure exactly what that meant ) the only one on the lot and give it to them.

They were very pleased with it, had no complaints, and really appreciated the agent going out of his/her way to help them! :thumbsup2

We used them for a van in 2007 and 2009. Both times the van had less than 5,000 miles on it.

We picked up at the in-airport location.

Also make sure you sign up for the dollar express service. You just pre-register on-line. Then when you get to the airport you enter a different line from regular reservations. It was awesome. Both times we were 2nd person in line as opposed to 10-15 in the regular line. We were done within 3-5 minutes and walking to the van.

As a DVC member, I see the benefit of hiring a car vs. using WDW transportation. I selected Dollar in February 2008 for their lowest price and terminal location at MCO. I have to say that I was completely satisfied with my choice. In the past I have used Hertz and have been pleased with their service.

Dollar is on-site and the cars are conveniently located from the terminal. Joining Dollar Express (free) got me a shorter line for pickup and circumvented the usual up-sell for insurance and toll transponders.

No complaints at all about my 2007 Ford Mustang Convertible. It was clean and in excellent shape during my rental period.

Arrived TPA yesterday and had a minivan reserved. Regular line was long but we breezed right up to the counter with our Dollar Express card. Rep tried to 'upsell' us to a Grand Caravan for 'only' $35 more per week saying the A/C in the back was much better. I politely declined and at the end we were given the Grand Caravan at no extra charge which is what I suspected -- they try to upsell you when they know they don't have the class of vehicle you reserved. Lesson is don't pay for an upgrade because you'll probably end up getting it for free.
