Dollar Tree adding a $1.25 price point

Dollar Tree is my absolute favorite place to buy balloons, gift wrapping items and greeting cards. Even with the price increase it’s still less expensive to buy at Dollar Tree than anywhere else. Even if they raised their prices to $1.50 I wouldn’t care - I’d still shop there

They are going to need to change their name. Bargain Tree, Beyond Bargains, or something along those lines.

I do pick up their serving ware, pot holder and disposable pans for the holidays, so that when I take a dish to work or send one with the hubs- they can just trash the pan and the serving utensil.

I don't see why they would need to change their name. They're slogan of "everything's a $1", sure. But it wouldn't be any different than the other stores, Family Dollar or Dollar General for example, that have never really marketed everything as being just $1, just more of bargain type stores.

I *think* but could be wrong, that when Dollar General opened they used that name because everything they sold (sell?) was even dollars. Something was $5, not the $4.99 crap to make you think you're getting a deal.

I love Dollar Tree, I'm always amazed at the people who buy helium balloons at our grocery store where just the basic ones are at least $5. I do however, steer clear of the $1 steaks. (pun intended)

I’ve never seen that one but there is a national chain called A Buck or Two. It’s kind of a fancier version of a chain called Dollarama because unlike Dollarama, the stench of cheap Asian plastic doesn't knock you over when you walk in. Neither had the “everything a dollar or less” concept. Dollarama has everything priced at even numbers ($1, $2, $5 etc.) and Buck or Two sells mostly party supplies, glass and plastic house wares and brand name snack foods. As has been mentioned upthread, lots of times the same or similar stuff is actually a little cheaper at WalMart or one of the big box drugstores.

The one that just opened not too long ago near me has a great crafting aisle. I followed a tutorial and made a wreath for our front door out of Dollar Tree tabletop Christmas trees and decorations, using only supplies from the store. I LOVE Dollar Tree, and I don't care if some of their stuff will be priced higher. It's the only place to go for party supplies, too.

Lol I just got my little trees delivered so I can do the same wreath!
I have 2 DT’s near me and they’ve been wiped of the Christmas craft stuff every time I checked. I was so happy to be able to order the trees online after I saw this video.

My Dollar Tree sucks anyway. Everytime I go there it's a disaster and you can't get a cart thru the aisles. I really only go looking for crafting things and they never have much.

I don't shop there often but do go every once in a while to get things like containers for our RV or cleaning supplies. The last time I went, the aisles were practically empty of stock. If I have to pay more than $1, I'll just go to Wal-Mart or Dollar General though since the kinds of things I buy at the dollar store I expected to fall apart anyway so didn't mind paying $1 for it. If I have to pay more, I'll go somewhere where I think something might last a little longer.

My last trip there, I got cheapo ornaments for my DD18's dorm tree. There's a niche in the hallway outside her room, perfect for the 4ft tree I purchased in 1985. Decorated with Dollar Tree ornaments, it'll be a nice touch of Christmas, and I don't care if any of it returns home after the holidays. (because, dorm). Although the ornaments were inexpensive, they don't look half bad.

We have Dollar Tree in Ontario! Fairly new, and I don’t think it’s all $1. We have a lot more Dollarama stores, and they have prices up to $4 now.

The strange thing is that one has closed down in Berkeley, California. Not sure exactly what it is. The area isn't the most expensive part of town and there are some residents who relied on the lower priced stuff.

The other location in Berkeley is still there is in an odd place sharing a building with a donut shop and liquor store. But the really odd thing is that there's a Whole Foods across the street.

I go to the Dollar Tree about once every six months just to look and see if anything catches my eye. I just did a trip to both of ours on Sunday. I’ll still go when things are $1.25. When I was there on Sunday and could hear everyone’s totals I was thinking to myself “how can they afford to stay open?” Yea, the products are cheap but they still have building costs, labor, transportation, etc. Though from what I hear, Dollar Tree is one of the few businesses in our town that pay minimum wage (everything else is above)

It was at one time. But then again at some point it's just a name, like International House of Pancakes serving waffles, or Burger King serving chicken nuggets.

I’ve been cutting back since covid. I liked dollar tree beca everything was a $1 and no surprise of higher priced item. I’ll probably shop there less .

My daughter is a sub right now and she loves dollar tree! She buys a bunch of stuff for when she has her own classroom. Can’t wait to see if she cuts back
