Noticed this morning that the dollar rate is now $1.50 what is going on??????????????????????????????????

:confused3:confused3:confused3

I'm sure you've read about the housing price collapse in the USA. Well as it happens we paid for our house in pounds and the devaluation of the pound is far more than the dollar devaluation of the houses value. So we made out quite nicely.

Our daughter, her husband and the kids are coming over next month. They aren't happy at all. The good news for them is that all it will affect is their spending money, everything else is already paid for.

There's a lot of worry in the markets about the levels of government debt, which has recently been exacerbated by the debt crisis in Greece. That has been putting the euro under pressure vs the dollar, and while sterling briefly benefitted from that (vs the euro), it has now followed the euro down.
The markets are not happy with the UK debt position, and with the money-printing (Quantative Easing) that the Bank of England has been doing recently. The BoE paused this last week, but left the option open to do more, which has spooked the markets.
Last, but not least, the Tories have recently dropped in the opinion polls, which means there is a greater chance of a hung parliament, which would create more uncertainty for the debt problem, and the markets hate uncertainty.

... and winter's come back again  (this bit's nothing to do with the dollar rate but it's added to my recent gloom) :sad2:

That's rubbish news :sad2:
We are booking everything seperately for our upcoming trip in October, and have so far only payed for the flights and the $99 Universal Tickets. I'm guessing that waiting until at least after the May election may be the best thing to do before booking the hotel & buying more tickets etc (all being linked to the exchange rate).
We were very lucky last time we went, in that we were getting $2 for a pound almost  I'm just hoping that things improve over the coming months!

so annoying. I've been hanging on to see it go back above the 1.6 again. I'm going in April and praying it goes back up. Not used to it being this low.

I'm not going until September but want it to go up too!! I got $2.04 2 years ago and then $1.69 last year. Everything has all been paid for but I wanted a little more $ spending money for my £ this year... so...

I'm sending lots of pixie dust to the powers that be to raise that rate!!! Here's hoping =)

For those who may be traveling to the UK, it is a help to us.

Well at least there is one bright side to it - we do want our fellow DISers from across the ocean to pop over and visit now and then. :goodvibes

I am going in October so still plenty time - then again, anything can happen. That is the very reason I don't pay off my entire holiday before it is due. If I need to make a sudden move with my spending money, I have the funds available to do so. My package is technically paid off - Disney UK just doesn't have it from me yet. ;)

Ak, not good.

I'm going in 3 weeks as well and I've still about a grand to transfer to my US account. :(

Still, its better than last year when it was down to almost $1.3 :scared1:
Over the years I've found $1.6-$1.7 to be an ''average'' rate with our lowest ever being the above dreaded $1.3 and our highest over $2 to the £1. Ahhhh those were the days :cloud9:

I believe the average over 10 years is around $1.60, tried finding a site to confirm yesterday but couldn't see anything.

Yep I thought it was around that figure :) Luckily the wonderful $2 to the £1coincided with our wedding so we were able to have a few extras :thumbsup2

That's monthly data, so doesn't show intra-month lows/highs (hence it doesn't go below 1.40 last year), but it gives an overall picture. I got this from http://www.dailyfx.com/charts/forexpowerchart/

Thank You:goodvibes

So we are now getting exactly the 16 year average. We just had a great ride 2004-2008. Although the $2 rate would be great again I am happy anything average rate or above.
