After reading a post about National dropping their rates I just checked our reservation for a minivan in June. It turns out that we can rent a minivan from National for $5 less than Dollar. The couple dollars does not really matter to me, I would prefer to rent where we will get a better car/service. Any opinions about the companies? I believe National has a Pontiac Montana and Dollar has a Dodge Caravan. The caravan is similar to our Town & Country so I know I would be comfortable driving it. Are there any real differences in the cars? I did sign up for Emerald Isle, but I will be using Emerald reserve since I need a minivan.
How exactly does the Emerald reserve work?

I have always used National, so I reall y cannot compare it to Dollar. I would recommend it because it is so convenient. Walk out of the terminal, across the street and up an escalator and you are there. Find the appropriate Emerald aisle for your car class, pick a car and get in and drive off. One quick stop at the checkout booth and you are on your way.

Every time we rent, I check all of the other rental companies and I have always found National to be the lowest.

Good luck and have a great trip.

I would always opt for National. Dollar puts an extra hold on your credit card for rentals. National does not, they just hold the amount of your rental.
Emerald Reserve works very much like EA. You reserve the class of car you want and go right to that aisle and select the one you want from, in your case, the minivan aisle, and drive to the exit booth, check out the car and you are on your way. National also has Caravans. National carries quite a few different makes of vehicles. IE: GM, Dodge, Toyota, Mitsubishi, just to name a few.
