I have a Minivan booked through Dollar and have gotten a great rate for my WDW trip this summer. I believe the site says Dodge Caravan or similar. I just want to make sure that I will get a minivan. I was just curious because it said "or similar". Please tell me there is not a chance that I won't get a minivan. There is no way I can travel with anything smaller because the amount of people that are going. Does anyone have experience with this?

You should get a minivan unless they are sold out (it can happen). We saw only Dodge Caravans and Chrysler Town and Countries in the Dollar lot at MCO. Be aware that they have both standard Dodge Caravans - very little storage space with all seats up - and Grand Caravans and you don't seem to be able to specifically reserve the larger one, there's just the one minivan rate. I mention it cos the nasty customer service rep there refused us a Grand Caravan though there were zillions in the lot...

At the counter Dollar they have always tried to get us to pay extra for the Grand Caravan. I've always refused and stated that nowhere on their website did it give the option for the larger van so I wasn't paying extra. I've always got the larger van without paying. Hertz on the other hand listed a Ford Windstar or similar and when we arrived in LAX they only had Mazda MPV's or Kia Sedona's not at all similar in size. So just be prepared as not all vans are created equal.

Even though Dollar gives great rates on minivans, I will not reserve one with them. They will not guarantee a larger wheel base model, like a Grand Caravan. When you are travelling with 6 people and their assorted luggage, you need that extra space in the back. Since I can't get a guarantee that I will be able to get one, especially without an argument, I choose not to give them my money.

Most times, I can get a comparable deal with National. And they always have Grand Caravans and the like. They may have plain Caravans, but I honestly don't remember ever seeing one. So I choose to give them my money because I know I can get what I need, and without a hassle.
