Has anyone actually been asked to show their gas purchase within 10 miles of MCO. We usually fill up on I-drive the night before when we have an early flight.

Yes, probably 20-30 percent of the time when I rent a car.

Specifically at MCO, no.

I travel for business frequently. Seems to happen with the lesser agencies...in which I would include Dollar (and considering my present frame of mind, Hertz :rotfl2:).

Do you feel lucky....

I thought you only could expect to do this if you'd driven the car under a certain number of miles… fewer than 50, maybe? I remember when we rented a car in Pittsburgh. The tank was FULL when we left the airport. I drove to the hotel (near the baseball stadium) and we only drove the car across to the other side of the river once all weekend, before returning it to the airport. I missed the last gas station, but the needle on the gauge was just at the bottom of the red line for F (hadn't used much gas at all) and so I just returned the car. No questions asked. On a subsequent rental at a different airport, they mentioned that if we returned the car with a very few number of miles driven, we'd be required to show a gas receipt, so I couldn't get away with "free gas" like I did in Pittsburgh!

We've used Dollar frequently for Orlando visits and at several other locations across the country - perhaps a total of 25-30 times over the past dozen years (most recently in January 2014 on a Ft. Lauderdale trip) and have never been asked for a gas station receipt. After the first couple of Dollar rentals I've assumed that they tout that rule for its sentinel effect.

The five times I have rented at MCO, I have never been asked for a receipt. I have rented from different agencies. I think that I might have left the receipt in the car a few times, though I didn't fill up within 10 miles, and never ran into an issue.

You know, the gas receipt is basically to assure that you are not cheating the "next driver" and/or the car rental firm themselves.

And -- that you are not being cheated when you pickup a car that has some 70 miles of fuel "already burned."

In my own car, I can drive at least 50 miles or so (actually I think more) before the fuel needle moves below "F."

I actually appreciate the fact that they check and that sometimes they demand a receipt.

It is sort of like going through airline security. Odds are you will not be pulled out of line for a TSA lovefest patdown. But, it can and does happen to a few people every hour.

You know the policy when you rent. Just be prepared to follow it or rent from another agency (although I think all of them have that language buried somewhere in their T/C's)>

We returned our car to Dollar at MCO a week ago and were not asked for it. Attendant did look at gas guage and it was full, so maybe they only ask if it's on the low side.
