I'm not a member of Dollar Express, but I'm registered for three similar programs with other car rental companies.

The whole idea of any program of this nature is to speed up the rental process. Your only interaction with an employee is that you make a quick stop at an exit gate (to show your drivers license to prove that you are you) before you leave the company's lot. The reason this works is because the company already has all your rental information, including your credit card number, and you're pre-approved.

Entering your credit card number into a secure website of a large corporation is much less risky than handing your credit car to a server in a restaurant (who then disappears with it for several minutes).

I think all the signups do this. I know I had to for Budget Fastbreak for me and National for my dh.

I understand the logic behind giving it to them. I guess I am just leary because of the likelihood of changing my reservations between now and October.

If you book some sort of pre-paid, non-cancelable, non-refundable rental, you'll have to pay whether you get the car or not.

Otherwise, you are free to cancel your reservation and pay nothing.
