hi can anyone tell me if you need to leave your credit card details when picking up a hire car from dollar at sanford we are having the platinum insurance, we usually book our car through travel city but booking direct with dollar was a lot cheaper but keep getting different answers off them about credit card details many thanks

I can't say anything particular about Dollar at Sandford but in my experience the hire company always asked for credit card details so that they can apply any charges after you have returned the car if they need to :(

I think I might have read somewhere about someone trying to hire a car without a credit card and them having to hand over hundreds of dollars as a deposit when they picked it up.

we didnt leave one this year, but we went through airline network

We went with TCD in 2005 and the car included was with Dollar. We didn't have to leave any credit card details, but this may have been because it was part of the package??

Last year with Alamo, we did have to leave the details.

hi thanks for all your replies i don't have a problem with leaving my card details but i wanted to know if they take an amount from the card or just take the details and charge on your return if anything wrong with car so i know how much to have available on my card.

No experience with this in Orlando but we had to leave CC details when we hired a car in Italy (AutoEurope) because we took independant insurance :)

We were told that money would only be deducted if the car was damaged.
As it happened someone did scratch the car, the money was deducted and we had to claim back on the insurance - took about a month for everything to be resolved (repair estimates etc) but it was all fine :thumbsup2

I always take a cc that we don't use for anything else and let them swipe that :)

I had this query also and we booked with airtours and took platinum insurance. After many phone calls we recieved an email from both airtours and dollar confirming that with platinum insurance we did not need to leave credit card details.

I phoned dollar in london who in turn contacted dollar at sanford and then forwarded the email to me which I have printed off to take with me just in case lol

We booked our last car with TCD/Dollar and had the platium insurance and DIDNT give a CC when we picked up the car.

:yay:

As I understand it, as long as you have their insurance, there should be no need for you to leave cc details :goodvibes

This should, surely, all be covered in the rental insurance :)

I have used Dollar twice last year, once booking direct and once through Travel City. When booking direct I pre-booked the insurance but not the fuel and which I paid for on arrival, I used my Visa to pay but I wasn't asked specifically for a credit card. When booking thru Travel City I pre-paid for everything and did not need to give a credit card imprint. Bottom line, if you have full insurance you should not need to supply a credit card, if however you only have the basic 3rd party insurance you will.

I always take the platinum ins. thru Airline network, and always find it cheaper than direct with Dollar. Just got back from Virgin flydrive yesterday which I took Platinum again. Not been asked for a CC for over 5 years they used to take an imprint years ago.

hi thanks for all your replies we have always booked via other agents and never had to leave credit card but booking direct with dollar got a lot of different answers about leaving card details so thanks for clearing that up for me
