Dollar Account / Card

There are eligibility criteria, but I'm not aware that you have to pay £1000 per month into the account. (I don't but I have other accounts with them anyway). What it does say on their website is THIS. It states an annual income minimum, but not that you have to pay that into the account. Best to call them and check to be sure.

I phoned CB today who told me there was no fee at all for thier dollor account and there is no requirement to make minimum deposits into the account; they made it sound like it was totally free to operate the account. They confirmed no charges for standard use of debit card in US but soem charge might apply at certain ATM. They did ask some eligibility questions as you say.

HSBC premier account holders can have a US account opened free-of-charge. It comes with a debit and/or credit card and a cheque book, and is fee-free and very easy to use.

we got a 'cash passport card' from thomas cook.
i think it was the same exchange rate as cash (or maybe slightly better). its a pre-loaded visa (electron) card. you decide how much to put on it, and can add more before you go. it works the same way as a debit card. no hidden charges for using it. i highly recommend it. if you have any left-over dollars on it when you get back, you can leave them till your next holiday, or request a cheque. if there is money left on the card, and it is un-active for 15months, they will charge a monthly fee until the card is used again or runs out.
go to cashpassport.com for more info

we never had any problems with it, and i plan to get one again for our sept trip:goodvibes

oops. just re-read your original post, and since you already have cash dollars, then this would be no use to you. although i recommend bearing it in mind for the future

can you tell me if you can tranfer as in online from say another Bank Account (not Citibank) into your Citybank Dollar Account.

says this

. To deposit money to Your Account, use the slip from Your paying in book and post this to: Freepost RLST-ZRCJ-BJLA, GCB banking, Citibank International plc, PO Box 49930, London SE5 7XT.

but I would like to be able to do internet banking as we live nowhere near a branch and didn't want to post every time

thanks
