Hello,
I am new to this board but have been reading posts recently for tips because my bf and I are going to Disneyland at the end of May. I have seen Dole whips and floats mentioned frequently on here, and I was wondering what they are. Are Dole whips just pineapple-flavored ice cream or soft serve? Are the floats made with soda or pineapple juice? I have seen pictures of them and it looks like it's just juice, but I'm not sure. I am interested in trying both but I want to know what they are first. Thanks in advance!

its pineapple soft serve with pineapple juice really good by the way:thumbsup2

Dole Whip - Pineapple soft serve ice cream
Dole Whip Float - above with pineapple juice, marachino cherry and umbrella

Seems so simple, but they are amazing!

I would say it's more like soft-serve sherbet, or a cross between soft-serve ice cream and sherbet. Because it's not really milky like ice cream.

The float is just the soft-serve plopped in a cup of pineapple juice. I like them, some people think they are the best thing ever, others think they taste plasticky. :confused3

If you are really curious you can find the ingredient list here. It's not ice cream by any stretch of the imagination, though, just a mix of various ingredients, Pineapple Juice Concentrate being the only actual food item in it.

I'm not a fan. (pineapple flavored melted plastic is how I describe the taste, though I'm not sure how I know what melted plastic might taste!)

Actually it is gluten, nut, lactose, cholesterol, and egg free but does have casein which is a dairy product and not for persons on a casein free diet. It is also kosher dairy and low fat. Not vegan because of the casein though.

It is technically a soft serve frozen dessert. Many even say it is nondairy but it does have that casein. I am soy free and still have no problem with dole whips.:cool1:

Dole whips are the best. I used to never think about getting one until one hot day I decided to try it. I was in Heaven :cloud9:!!! They are a great way to cool down on a hot day. Just a smooth, melt in your mouth, fruity taste. Now I want one! Too bad it would take me 6-7 hours to get it.

Would you believe I've never tried a Dole Whip before? I've had the pineapple juice, which was sooo good and refreshing, but haven't had a chance for the Dole Whip.

You did the scavenger hunt and went right past the stand, lol. How many days were you in DL this weekend, lol. Set a date and I will get you one.

Lol. I "almost" got one when we were in the courtyard. At least, I almost got a pineapple drink, but woman, we had things to do! There's no stopping on a scavenger hunt!

I think it is really funny how people worship the Dole whip because this was something I ate almost every weekend at my hometown mall growing up. I don't know why the food court had Dole whips but I never got one at DL because they weren't *that* exotic! Oh, and my jr. high had a churro cart, too! So that is one more thing I never considered a "DL treat..."

I like them..wasn't sure after the mixed reviews, but I found the whip very refresing. It looked HUGE but they had a magical way of getting it in the cup so that when you stuck your spoon in you discovered a big cave. It was still plenty though..I can't wait to have another..

You name a date and I will get you one and two if you love them. I stopped on that scavenger hunt for stairs and doorways that shrank as I approached.

BTW,the Dole whip stand is by the Tiki Room. They are available at the counter which is open outside the gate of the Tiki Room and it's also open on the courtyard inside the gate. Check the lines-- sometimes the line outside the Tiki room entrance is waaayyyy long, but if you go inside the courtyard as if you're going to the next show, the line on the inside is often much shorter. Then you can sneak back out again if you don't feel the need to sing along with Jose and friends. ;)

Thank you all so much for the info and tips! I will make sure to try both when my bf and I make our trek to DLR in a few months. I don't know how long Dole whips/floats have been around, but I know I have never had either one before. I actually haven't been to DL since I was about 8 years old (I'm 23 now), so I'm super excited! :goodvibes

Thank you all again!
