I keep reading of dole whips and dole whip floats. Some pics have yellow ice cream. Some have yellow. The floats seem to all have pineapple?? juice.
Please sort this all out for me. I went to order one last year and was totally overwhelmed by the choices. I don't even remember which one I had. It was good, but I want to be sure there isn't something better I missed out on.:goodvibes

dole whip choices are:

dish: pineapple dole whip, or vanilla dole whip, or swirl both together

float: pineapple dole whip with pineapple juice --OR-- vanilla dole whip with pineapple juice.

This is at Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom. If you're over at the Polynesian counter service restaurant, the machine just dispenses the Dole Whip, no floats.

In Magic Kingdom, we love the pineapple dole whip dish...straight pineapple, very refreshing especially on a hot, hot day.

However, when getting the dole ship floats, we like the vanilla dole whip with pineapple juice...just seems like over-kill when it's pineapple-pineapple.

Dole Whip - it has been posted the ingredients for this, which is a bad thing...

a float has pineapple juice in the bottom, and it is very refreshing - the ice cream on the top - helps keep the juice cold!! ;)

Its a nice treat, as long as there is a short line - imo!!

I always get the float because I like pineapple juice, and its a snack credit on the dining plan (as is the dole whip ice cream - which I think they have other flavors)

ah, there you go - I knew there were other flavors - the yellow posted here is the pineapple, I like pineapple pineapple!!

aah,thanks.

so the vanilla dole whip is basically vanilla soft serve? I guess it is the "dole" part that is throwing me off.

Yes, the vanilla dole whip float sounds like a winner to me then!:thumbsup2

yep, it's all a "soft-serve frozen confection" (but it is NOT soft-serve ice cream...hence the "dole whip" name. Think it's called by the product name like that because they cannot actually call it ice cream...it's not dairy.)

I'm not really a Dole Whip expert, but we've started making it a must do at the MK and DL each time we go. We like the pineapple/vanilla swirl in pineapple juice float. Very refreshing. Yum! :thumbsup2

I think you also have an option for orange flavored whip, although we've never tried it. You really you can't go wrong with anything though.

Really, it's not dairy? Is it sherbet? It actually sounds delish!

Oooohhhhh, Orange sounds yummy. I don't remember that one. Will def look for it in 9 days!!!!!:cool1::cool1::banana::banana::woohoo::woohoo::yay::yay:

It is dairy but it's not ice cream. It is a lactose free, creamy frozen dessert made of ingredients you don't want to read because you want the illusion of all of its goodness to be maintained. ;)

I'm very particular about this distinction of dairy free because of an allergy perspective. For people who have to eat lactose free they're a wonderful dairy-like treat that won't make them sick. For those of us dealing with milk protein allergies, these are not safe as they do contain casein (milk protein). Casein is the component of milk that makes the product smooth and creamy.

Vegans would care just as much about this distinction. These ARE dairy treats.

Yes if you had to clasify what it would be called by the FDA its Water Ice because it doesn't have any Milk Fat.

I used to post the ingredients but not anymore. I also posted a "Website fail" post here because on the Dsiney website they call it ice cream. I got flamed to a briquette on that one, called something like a lactose intolerant nazi :scared1:, got schooled on labeling requirements that since Disney is not distributing it they can call it whatever they want even though its not ice cream.

I even sent feed back to Disney and they actually called me. As soon as I knew what the call was about I deleted the message because of all the hate I got here. Sorry for the vent.

Dole says that by FDA standards they can call it dairy free, I guess some are more sensitive than others. I like the no lactose part for me. :thumbsup2

Also Sherbet does have dairy.

Seriously people, has nobody ever tried the orange/vanilla swirl??? (i think they call it the citrus swirl). I have that in a float with pineapple juice. OMG its sooooooo amazing. I honestly think its FAR FAR FAR better than the dole whip float to be honest. its that good! You gotta try it.

Not to confuse anyone I think the Citrus Swirl is sold around the corner nearby and is orange sherbet and vanilla soft serve swirled together.

But for me it Pineapple in Pineapple.

Around the corner where? The only two places I know that have dole whips are either at MK Aloha Isle, or the Poly. And yes, the citrus swirl is available at Aloha Isle in MK.

Ok I did some research.

A Citrus Swirl was frozen orange juice and real (dairy) vanilla soft serve sold at Sunshine Tree Terrace. It then became orange sherbet and vanilla soft serve swirled and now it's no longer sold.

I did find this http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=453805 and this http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/features_orlando/2007/06/what-happened-t.html

It says that they no longer sell them and what you are referring to I guess can now at can be called a Citrus Swirl but I have never seen it on the meanu listed as such and is not the "Citrus Swirl".

I just didn't want some people like my mother to think it was the original Citrus Swirl that everyone raved about. :thumbsup2

When at WDW that all my mother asks for, she is 80, the funny part is that she has only been there 4 or 5 times starting in 1977.

There is another place to get Dole Whips. The Dole plantation in Hawaii. They serve it with fresh squeezed pineapple juice. It is amazing.

Actually anyone can sell Dole Soft Serve. There are reports of seeing it at Knobles Amusement park, state fairs and at many small ice cream stands across the country.

last summer we tried the all orange in the pineapple juice and although very good, I still prefer the pineapple/pineapple dole whip float.

And yes, the orange "dole whip" (lack of a better name) is sold at the Aloha Island.
