Dole Whip - Different than DQ or No?

So I see Dole Whip raved about everywhere but from what I can tell, it looks like soft serve with pineapple mixed in. Since my kids aren't huge fans of pineapple I'm not sure it would be worth seeking it out. Is the vanilla Dole Whip basically the same as a vanilla soft serve cone or is there something different or better about it?

It's more icy than creamy, IMHO. I don't think it's really comparable to DQ vanilla soft serve at all. Our family loves it. I can't eat regular ice cream but dole whip doesn't bother me. Maybe it's Disney magic pixiedust:

Probably more due to it being non dairy, than Disney magic. But you're right- they are nothing alike.

I don't care for dole whip. Though their continued ingredient changes since 2007 have made it a bit more palatable.

But you can get it all over the place now. It's just a Dole product afterall.

Maybe get one to share and see if anyone likes it. If not, move on. :)

A year or two ago I heard about the wave of sensation surrounding the dole whip. Curiosity and the hype made me wonder what I had been missing all these years and so I had my first dole whip last year, and it was good. But I really don't understand the hype around it. To me, it's nothing outstanding that I couldn't make myself (even make it better).

Ever since I had the Dole Whip at the Dole plantation in Hawaii I am spoiled and don't get it at WDW much anymore. It is much better tasting on the plantation so the mix is different or something. The one we get here at WDW is more watery and less flavorful IMO.

placebo effect. it's the same thing.

Don't think so.. Many people I talked to there agreed. They may be putting dairy in it still, may not be using the powder mix, who knows. It is creamier than the WDW one so the recipe is different. WDW just uses the powder mix and it was changed a couple of years ago. They claim they removed the dairy from the mix to make it vegan now, but the one last year in Hawaii was still creamy tasting.

I don't know about the vanilla Dole Whip, but the pineapple Dole Whip is basically pineapple flavored non-dairy soft serve. It has the consistency of soft serve; it's smooth without any chunks or bits of pineapple.

If you have a frozen yogurt shop near you, you might give them a call and see if they carry it. Not all shops have it, but there have been several reports here on the Disboards about folks finding it at their local shop.
