Dole Whip and Dairy Allergy? Confused

So, after reading how GREAT the dole whip is an how it's a Vegan option and, therefore, dairy free, I got into the long line and waited FOR EONS to try one of these delights. Once I got up there, I just wanted to be sure that the Dole Whip was, in fact, dairy free. I asked and they said it is not?! They said that it is made with ice cream and that they don't have a dairy free option. I asked if they could just bring some over from the Main Street Ice Cream shop and make one (I just waited in the sun for 20 minutes for one!), but they said "nope". :confused3 So I am completely confused. I have read again and again that they are dairy free, but when met face to face with the CM at the stand in MKingdom, they said they are not? Can anyone help me understand this for next time?

The orange and pineapple are dairy free but they often mix the solution in a common bucket that they use for both the vanilla and the other ones.

Wow, that would be disappointing if something has changed and these are no longer df. My ds ate one this past Sept at the Poly. It was the pineapple flavor and the manager gave it to him after knowing he was allergic to dairy. My ds reacts to even trace amounts of cow's milk protein and he had no problems from that Dole Whip.

others have disagreed with me but at Dutch Wonderland which also has dole whip, our book lists dairy in all flavors of dole whip

The ingredient list from the manufacturer is dairy free, or at least was recently. It's possible that it changed but I think it's more likely the CM you were talking to was thinking along the lines of "obviously this would have dairy" so they didn't even check.

Ok, so I can try this again and just ask for orange or pineapple and ask to see ingredient list to be on safe side. What a disappointment that they sent me away for nothing?! That's a first for me at Disney!

Well the CM certainly could have been nicer about it. They wouldn't be allowed to take product from one area to another for so many reasons. ( safety/ integrity of the product/ inventory /various other reasons in food safety handling rules ) Just " Nope " doesn't cut it though.

Did I understand correctly that you expected one of the insanely busy counter workers to go all the way to Main Street and back to get you some dairy free ice cream to make you a Dole whip?
That's over the top. If the person blurted out 'nope' it was probably out of shock.

Yeah, that does sound nutty, but you'd be surprised that Disney CMs often do get allergen free products from centrally located areas in their parks and bring them to other areas (they don't always keep all their low allergen items at one spot). Of course that was not the case for this one, but we have had it happen on multiple occasions that a cast member had to either go to another area, or call someone from another area to bring in a low allergen item (happened at Beach Club, Hollywood Studios and others). Again, surprising, but all part of the Disney Magic :) They are pretty fantastic, in general, when it comes to serving people with food allergies! Of course I would never press for anyone to go out of their way, but I have learned that having something brought over is sometimes part of the process, which is why I asked. :)
