Doing things that can be done at home?

I suppose this might depend on how often you are lucky enough to go to WDW, but do you try to avoid activities that you can do at home? I believe our package comes with a round of mini golf but I'm not sure if I want to spend precious little Disney time on an activity like that. Opinions?

I feel similar. We don't do mini golf.

It depends on the amount of time you have. If I'm there for 4 days, I'm going to be in the parks constantly. If I'm there 10 days, I might see a movie in Disney Springs or do other things I can do at home in order to get a little down time. Generally speaking though, I'm looking to optimize my Disney time while I'm lucky enough to be there.

We have never gone for more than 6 days so we really don't do any of the extras like mini golf. We also (gasp!!) have never gone to Disney Springs, I always want to but we never end up having time. We do do a little resort hoping but not much else besides the parks and swimming/hang out at our resort.

I try not to do anything on ANY vacation that I can do at home. If a restaurant is within a 50 mile radius of where I live, I won't go there in another state. This is much easier when I go to other countries, but you could have knocked me over with a feather when I was in Stockholm and my Swedish friends wanted to go to TGIFridays. :rotfl:

Same here. No mini golf. No movies. No restaurants we eat at near home.
Awwww. New signature. So sad and cute.

And yes, I think it's a matter of time and also small children will often pick coloring or a playground over a ride because it's calming to them. We live near Disneyland and often will only ride one ride in six hours.

Thanks everyone! This is probably a twice in a lifetime trip, so I think we'll skip the mini golf.

The first time we went I felt bad not using the coupons in the book but now I just don't worry about them. I figure I'm not missing out. But you know if I was going for a two week trip I'd totally go mini golfing. Enjoy your trip, just remember you won't be able to do everything and that's okay. :)

I try to go for 7-10 days. We have never been to mini golf either. I usually save Disney Springs for the very end when we don't have park tickets. It is a good way to step down and slowly come back to the real world.

Thank you. And I agree it really is sad. :(

My tradition is to go see a movie at the big AMC theater at Disney Springs on my first night. That's about the only thing I do on vacation that I can do at home. I just like the feeling on settling into a chair with my drink and popcorn and knowing I'm at the beginning of relaxing vacation.

Since our trips to Florida and the parks are always in the fall/winter and we're from Long Island, we definitely swim at WDW. Pool time is also a precious commodity when it's ten degrees out back home. :)

Otherwise -- nope. No movies, no golf, no chain restaurants.

I don't get to WDW often, and I doubt we'll be able to ever stay for longer than a week, so for me our trips are about maximizing park time, with some resort time mixed in to avoid getting burned out.

I feel like I couldn't relax and enjoy mini-golf or a movie in DS, because those are things I could easily do at home, and Disney time is precious.

We do swim. We do take time to enjoy our resort. We also usually travel during cold seasons back home and it's relaxing to take the kids to the pool, let them have fun in the pool and on the slides while I sit in the hot tub. That to me is relaxing. Sure I can go to the pool at home but there is something super relaxing about the pools at Disney.

Mini-golf we would do, because every mini-golf place is different. Movies, no.

But what I notice even more, compared to many contributors here, is that we'll avoid some food we get readily at home. No pizza at table service, that just seems silly to me. We might do burgers at a place like Sci-Fi, or if we're stuck for QS options, but we'd never plan ahead for them. No Thanksgiving dinner foods unless it's Thanksgiving.
