Doing the World nutless and eggless with a side of asthma! Updated!

Sesame Place has been a great "warm up" to our trip to WDW. When we first started going in May, DS was scared of everything, the rides (poor kid cried sitting on our lap on the bench on the Merry Go Round!), characters, shows, etc. We had our Disney trip booked and I have to admit I was panicking! All I could think of is we are going to have this trip paid for and DS is going to hate it.... Thankfully the more we went and slowly tried things he warmed up to everything. He now starts kicking the horse as soon as he gets on and says UP! UP! UP! He likes the characters but still can't sit through a show. He LOVES the parade they have so I'm sure Disney's will blow him away. He even really seems to enjoy Sesame's fireworks (they are VERY toddler friendly) so hopefully he likes Wishes because I have a Cruise booked :rolleyes1

Sesame Place has a really cute Halloween celebration (we plan on going back again). They have trick or treating (7 different stations) a few of the things we got were a mini juice box, a mini banana (no, it didn't dance!) cheese doodles, and some candy that my husband enjoyed. They had clues telling you where to find the different stations and they would punch out the corresponding # when you went to their station. DS loved handing the employees the paper!! I originally wasn't going to get him an autograph book for Disney but based on how much fun he had handing over a piece of paper, I think I will. I really want to look into the ones over on the disign board. I would really rather buy one, so hey if anyone is reading this and you want to make me one, PM me! I am going to check etsy too.

We really lucked out because the weather was cold in the morning and warmed up to a comfortable temperature later in the day. The park was totally empty which my son was happy about because we let him get out of his stroller and walk. I then realized I forgot to put a safetytat on him and was having a small heart attack that something would happen . Not that he was ever more than like 6 inches from me, but I still worry. I've now put some safetytats in my diaper bag incase I forget again.

First we did some trick or treating in Abby's "maze". It was really cute and DS was thrilled because he got to push a button.

Here he got a mini banana, which he then played with and squished and squished until we had to take it away before it was squirting out the sides. He was pretty upset that we took it away but thankfully it was quickly forgotten.

Next up was the pump cars. DS loves them, the only crappy thing is they are really hard to pump which means we have to push him. They are very low, at the level of back breaking. The quality isn't the best (I took it from my iphone). Oh and the other not so great thing, they are located under the family raft ride so you get dripped on sometimes. Not bad during the summer, but when it's 50 out, BAD! I have no idea why Sesame still had water in some of their slides. :confused3

They had a hayride that started at 11 (we got there a little before opening at 10) so it was just about 11 so we headed over to the hayride. They had it out in the parking lot so you had to leave the park, get your hand stamped do they hayride, go back through bag check and come back into the park. It wasn't a big deal, but if it was crowded it probably would have been time consuming to do. It was really cute. They had a character on the wagon (we did it twice, Bert once and then Ernie) and a entertainment employee was hosting the hayride. We sang some songs and they read The Legend of Spookley The Square Pumpkin. It was a really cute book. If we didn't already have a million books, I'd add this one to our collection. DS really enjoyed the hayride. It was the perfect length of time.
Here is a picture from after the hayride, my son was more interested in the tractor than Bert! I do think his first set of wheels will be a John Deere!

We headed back into the park and Zoe was out taking pictures. I was really disappointed that we kept missing Bert and Ernie. They were dressed as a pigeon (Bert) and a rubber ducky (Ernie). Hopefully we can catch them next time.

We did some more trick or treating and then stopped for lunch. We brought stuff for DS (Sesame isn't too on their game for food allergies) and DS and I ordered some food. With our season passes we get %30 off food, which makes the prices a little more reasonable. Lunch was a nice needed break. We were hoping DS would take a nap after lunch but no such luck.

All season long I have been looking getting a handimal and decided we'd wait till the end of the season. We got one made after lunch and I think it's pretty cute. They charge $10 a hand. They offer framing and matting too but it would have been $50 extra! I told her no thanks I'll wait till I have a coupon for Joanne's and go there! I don't know how well they will show up, but they are turtles.

We tried watching Elmo's World Live (the changed the show to be Halloween themed) but DS did not want to sit and watch it so we left there and finished trick or treating.

Next we did the Count's Unhaunted Castle. The highlight for DS was pointing out "meow meow's" nose. We did this 3 times because he loved running around it. Really wasn't much to it, but there was a few buttons he could push so it's a big win in his book for that reason.

We saw Elmo twice and rode a few rides. We tried out the teacups (kept them from spinning) for the first time. DS didn't hate them, but he didn't love them either. I think it's hard because it's too short to see over the cup, so he doesn't have much of a view.

We managed to last long enough to catch the parade at 4. The parade is cute, DS loves it but thank goodness this is it's last year. It is 13 years old and it really shows it's age!

So there was a little trip report (even if it's wasn't Disney) in my pre trip!

I just found out that our Disney Store is opening 11/2 !! I am so excited for it! It will be a perfect pre trip activity! I got an invite from the Disney visa card and if says they will have a special pin. I just have to remember to bring the invite with me. I am very excited to see what opening day is like at the store! I am also wondering how early I will need to get there. I have a toddler so I can't go to early or he will not be happy!

I really need to step away from the computer. I'm now in the process of seeing if we can rent a night or 2 at AKV but only if we can get a savanna view in a studio. I realize that's probably next to impossible but I'm going to see what's out there. Well, I'm not, my friend is who is offering me some rental points.

I booked one night with rental points (could only get 1 night with them) and the second with Disney. We have a studio savanna view in Kidani, fingers crossed we will not have to change rooms because that will mess up everything (unless we can do it right away). Our plan is just to hamg out at the pool and the resort checking out the animals until we have to leave. I am really excited but nervous that it will some how backfire on me and I will have a tired screaming toodler and no room between 10-4 if I have to change.

Well, I offically know I will cry in Disney World. I rented some old school Disney sing alongs from Netflix and my son loves them!! Anyway he was watching it today and he tried to hug the tv when Mickey came on!! I cried, now lets just hope he feels the same when he sees him in person!!

Hi sparkly... I'm here too popcorn:: So I am a little confused about the AKV. How does that fit with your stay at the Pop? Is this for 2 days before Pop? I am glad you found the inflatable aero bed in toddler size. I"m so glad they have that. I immediately thought of an inflatable bed when I first read your quandry. I have an inflatable BoohBah Bed for DD8. She is actually so tiny that she still fits in it, but it has a headboard but not a rail around it. But my DD stayed in that pack-n-play til she was almost 4. She didn't even try to get out. Never was an escape artist. Depending on what our accommodations are and who is coming with us, DD has stayed in the Booh Bah bed (do you remember ****ah? British toddler show!), on the couch (curls up in the corner so no need to pull out the bed) or in between us in the King bed. But as I said, she would not escape. Mostly when she was 4 of younger it was the pack-n-play.

I had always wanted to take Heidi to Sesame place, but never quite got around to it. I guess she's probably too old for it now that she's 8. She still loves the characters but doesn't watch Sesame Street anymore. I miss it. We went to Hershey Park with her a few years ago. She had fun, but in many ways, it is SO NOT Disney!! :lmao: I now suffer from very high standards for theme parks. I can't even go to Kings Dominion anymore! :snooty:

I am impressed that with 39 trips in your history, you're still a planner. And you still haven't seen it all. You must have always gone several times a year your whole life. Nice! :worship:

Forgot to tell you... since we stayed at the Pop for 8 nights in August, I have some great tips for you. The manager there at the food court, his name is Kevin will absolutely bend over backwards to make sure that you get the specialty food items that you need. He will even introduce you to the chef, like he did to me, and tell you all about what they can offer you. I am lactose intolerant. I couldn't find the non-dairy creamer, and I thought they didn't have Lactaid milk because it was not in the regular dairy case with the other milks and soy milk. Nope... they have it all in the back. They keep it safe from contamination. All I had to do was ask, and he gave me huge cups of Lactaid milk at no charge. They also made extra effort to keep our meals pork free. They have turkey sausage to replace regular. They probably have a good collection of certified peanut free products. By the way, in the Main Street Bakery, I noticed that they have a separate little display of pre-packaged products and some are certified nut free and there are gluten free products everywhere there now. Make sure you introduce yourself to Kevin at the food court and he will make sure you get what you need. Kevin is a heavy set, black man with a slightly deformed arm.

We are checking out of Pop a day early and extended our trip by a day. I had credit on Southwest that we were not going to be able to use so it only cost me an extra $6 to change from flying home On Saturday to Sunday. We are planning on just hanging at the resort but we will see how Adam likes being there vs in a park.

Thank you so much for the info on Kevin, I am really worried about feeding my son. Picky toddler and food allergies are not a good combo!!

My grandma lived in Fl so that helped rack up a lot of trips. Sad thing is we would visit grandma for like 2 days and Disney for 5 lol!!

This is the first trip that is on my dime! Well, almost. In 2006 I went with my parents (DH stayed home) and I paid for my ticket and food, parents paid the rest.

Sesame is nice but it's no Disney! Most of the workers are teens and college students, just trying to make a couple of bucks and pick up phone numbers, only magic they are trying to make is in their dating lives! I know this because I worked at Six Flags for 5 years and that is all we were trying to do! I had more desire than most to make magic because of my love for Disney and dream of being a cast member one day. Sadly, they did not make it possible to make any magic, our typical response to stuff was "what do you expect, this isn't Disney!" awful, isn't it?

good news, the Werther's store in Germany opened. I do not know though if it is nut free. They do offer sugar free, so they might also offer nut-free. Caramel itself though, doesn't have nuts or eggs, so it sounds hopeful.

I collect tins, so I saw the picture in the blog of that tin that looks like a Werther's candy store and I MUST have it!!

I can't believe I came across your trip report! It's great :) I will definitely be following along. I hope we can get together soon to catch up and I'll give you some tips for traveling with a 2 year old!

Today I got a photopass card in the mail. I have never gotten one in the mail before. It said to register the card now, before my trip, for special offers and more! How exciting! Did you get one?

We got it too. I am a little confused about it. I probably won't bother doing anything with that card and just wait until we get cards at the park and get home. We did pre order the cd so our plan is to get as many pictures as possible.

We take my son back to the drs tomorrow for a follow up for his hospital stay from his asthma. I am really scared they will tell us not to go or that he will have problems when we are done there. They think the change of weather may have caused his issue. Honestly, I don't think going to FL will cause a problem but coming back to NJ and the great weather here will.

Ok all caught up .. .:surfweb:

I hope things go well today with the dr's visit. I had asthma as a child, actually I was allergic to milk & Bananas - not soo good for a toddler.

Anyways - I'm ok now I grew out of my allergies by 5 or so.

I thought the handamils were pretty cool. I have to admit though I thought that they were green squids at first but then saw the eyes and mouth. Very cute.

Sounds like a cool idea, taking your DS to a smaller theme park type attraction ahead of Disney, getting him used to the larger than life characters. It also sounds like he is just in love  with Mickey (hugging the TV) Now that's adorable.

Glad to hear that the manager at POP is such a good resource to ensure that specialty meals are propperly taken care of. Must make you feel a bit more secure about the whole thing. :thumbsup2

Funny, my DW asked if we would consider the values this time around, and I really wanted a Deluxe again (BC/AKL being the two previous trips), so we ended on CSR. But, I have to admit POP seems like it will be our choice with small children simply for the same reason you chose it -- the larger than life icons and displays. I can't even imagine how your little guy will be with the whole "wooooooow!" thing going on. Very cool.

Anyways I'm here now and will follow along popcorn::

Don't forget its the Food and Beverage Manager at Pop. His name is Kevin, he's black and heavy set. VERY nice and helpful... pretty much like most people at the Pop.

My 18 year old son has asthma. Back in March we came down with another family to celebrate our boys all making Eagle scout. My son had been having no asthma problems at home, so he didn't bring any of his meds? :confused3 Can I tell you what a delight it is NOT, to be driving around looking for the right Walgreens in Orlando. Seems the EPCOT Flower & Garden show really was a trigger for him. I have allergies to weeds. I had not a single problem because EPCOT wouldn't DARE have a weed in it! :rotfl: Not so much for Max. We called CVS at home only to find that DS had let his prescription expire. So then we had to get our doctor's office to call in the emergency prescription to CVS. THEN CVS was out of one of the meds, and since we had none with us, and it would take a day, we had to have CVS transfer the prescription to Walgreens. Then the Walgreens they picked was NOT the closest one. We must have passed 6 Walgreens on the way to this one. But they got us fixed up and on our way. Would have been nice to avoid the whole thing. Make sure everyone has their meds even if they're SURE they won't need them. The allergens and asthma triggers vary from one state to the next. Even within a state. I once had a terrible allergy attack in Colonial Williamsburg VA in the month of May when I'd had no problems at home in northern VA.

Oddly, my son now attends college in Florida and hasn't had a problem. He must have been allergic to some plant that they had at EPCOT that triggered his asthma that isn't just causally around the area. Wonder what?:confused3

Did I tell you that I saw a display of nut-free products in the bakery. And they also have a specialty pre-packaged area (a few shelves and a basket) at Pop.

and if you didn't notice from the other threads 28 days!

Just found your trip report. And now I'm hooked. Love the handimals....so cute.

I just love hearing about kid's first trips to Disney World. My DS's first trip was when he was 18 months. And as you can tell from my ticker, his 5th trip is happening next month. Little ones at Disney are just so magical.

Mindy, that is crazy all that running around! I would have killed him! I just got more meds for our trip I think I will have enough to take care of a whole herd of people with asthma. I really hope I will come home with as much as I am taking!

We got the all clear from the dr to go on our trip as long as Adam has no problems before then. His dr does however agree that he may have problems coming back to NJ so we have worked out a treatmean plan that will hopefully keep his asthma under control.

I need to call special diets and see what I can find out about the allergy pancake/waffle mix. I think I read somewhere on here that is is not safe for peanut/nut allergies. I am hoping if this is true they will allow me to order mix that is safe for my son and ship it to them or they will be willing to purchase it. For some reason I am really hung up on Adam having a Mickey waffle. It just doesn't seem like a true trip to Disney without a Mickey waffle. I am one determined momma and will not let my little boy down!!

:welcome: how exciting for you little guy's 5th trip! We are ariving 2 days after you!

It really makes me glad to see that there are options at Disney for those that have allergies. I mean my son doesn't have any at this time, but who's to say that my future children wont.

And, I really want to be able to share the Magic with them too. So it just makes me feel good about all the things that can be done at the world for those who need it.

OH BTW I went and saw Secretariat over the weekend. I don't usually gush at movies, but honestly I had tears rolling down my face. It was insane.... OH, the tears are a good thing it wasn't at the sad parts.

Anyways... I highly recommend the movie and it its DISNEY!! I know my DS 10 wants to see it, mind you he loves horses.
