If doing a split stay at same resort to take advantage of the free dining offer, do you have to physically check out and check back in and if so is that going to delay getting to the parks? Do you get to stay in same room?

You will need to go to check in again in a sense to get you're new cards with your meals on them. A far as staying in the same room, call reservations and make sure it is notes that you are staying as well as when you check in. It should not be a problem at all. We are doing it too.

They will do everything they can to ensure that you stay in the same room, but there is always the chance that you'll have to move. When you check-in make sure that there is note saying you have a second reservation and would like to stay in the same room if possible (as the PP suggested, call reservations and let them know you'd like to link the reservations). On the check-out day of the first reservation, you have to go to check-in and check-in/out. Do this early so if there are issues (such as having to change rooms), you can deal with them right away. If all goes well, you do not have to physically vacate your room. You will be issued new KTTW cards, along with the other paper work you get when you check-in.

Make sure both parts of the trip are booked in the same room category ... If they are booked in a different category, you will have to change rooms.

Also tell them at your first check in that you have a split stay in the same hotel and you want the same room. We had to do that.

Happens to me every year; link your reservations and book the same booking category.

The computers roll over at 6 am; only takes a few minutes.

Don't do online check in. It's better to check in at the front desk so you can give them a heads up regarding the continuing reservation. I went down about 7am and it took about 5 minutes total.

We had to do this two years ago and it wasn't a big deal. Yes, you have to go to the counter, but with any luck it's quick and painless.

We were already booked for a stay with FD. Then along came Hurricane Irene!!! We live in New England and it was due to strike the very morning we were going to be leaving. We weighed our options and decided an extra day at Disney really wouldn't be so bad! :rotfl:

So at the very last minute we called Disney and added a one-night room only, linked to our previous reservation. No problem at all and we got to stay in the same room. Southwest Airlines even cooperated and we were able to change flights at no additional cost!

The kids still laugh about everyone else preparing for a hurricane and instead we take off to Disney!

I thought we would, but we didn't! The first part of our stay at CSR was room only in a water view room. The second part was for free dining in a standard room. They upgraded us to water view for the whole trip, and we didn't have to change rooms!:dance3:

I wouldn't count on it happening, but it was a great bit of pixie dust.:cool1:

Ditto for me on a solo trip to POR a few years ago. I show up on a very busy check out day. The CM said if I did not mind moving a few doors away the next morning, she had a fantastic room for me and she did....riverview, king bed, corner room. So be open to moving, you do not have to unpack until the next day.

Don't. "Split stay" is a DIS term, not a hotel term. When you first arrive, tell them you're "checking in to the same resort the same day you check out, and ask if it's possible to be placed in a room from which you won't have to move".

You should be fine. The only thing I could think of that would force you to change rooms would be I you were in a connecting room you didn't need and it was the only one coming available that day. Or I guess at POR if you were in a standard AB room and a party of 5 needed the room.

Or, even fewer words to convey the same message, you could just say that you have a "continuing reservation, and would like to keep the same room, if possible"
