Doing PI while still undergraduate - any regrets?

My son is in the interview process for an Engineering PI Spring 2013. He is a junior in his civil engineer program at school. If he got the PI (he knows chance is slim - so competitive), it would obviously mean his missing his spring semester, and would make catching up during fall semester literally impossible because of all the prerequisites required to continue in the fall, he would be missing by doing the PI the previous spring. His dream is to work for Disney, but now after talking with his advisor, he is beginning to second guess his path for doing this internship. My question is, do PI participants typically do their PI AFTER graduation? Did you decide to apply for a PI simultaneously with applying for a full time job? Or if you did the PI during undergraduate school, was it worth it to postpone finishing your requirements? Thanks for any input!
