First hello and welcome. I went as a "newbie" to Disney this past week. I was diagnosed with crohns disease in August 2010 and am on quit a selection of medicine. I am not in full remission but I no longer have the "urgency" that us crohnies know. I do however will have a few moments of I have to run now. This is backround for refrance.
The food at Disney was good. Huge burgers and half chickens galore. Sides are usually fries or a fruite of soe sort...mainly grapes. Here is a rundown of the weeks meals
Day 1- Magic Kingdom ate at Cosmic Rays. I had the pulled chicken sandwhich with fries and a coke. The bun it came on was multigrain which I found hard to digest later on. It made me bloated and by day 3 I was rather sick.
Day 2-Holleywood Studios ate at Prime Time cafe. It was a cute atmosphere but we had to wait a half and hour past our reservation time to be seated and our server Aunt Lisa wasn't into her roll. I had the pot roast which came with green beans and mashed potatoes. It's served up pile type as in mashed potatoes with pot roast on top and green bean medely on top of that. In all it was hard to separate and I wound up eating the green beans which usually doesnt bother me but paired with the bread from the day before I found myself getting sicker.
Day 3- Animal Kingdom ate at I'm not sure. It was a order and eat outside type deal. I had a half chicken which came with baked beans and cole slaw. I asked the slaw be changed out and was changed to grapes. This meal was mostly not digestive friendly and my body responded accordingly. Everything from the days before also mixed unplesantly all at once and I found myself very sick. We stopped and waited for rougly an hour as my body went through the motions. I became very tired, bloated and felt the sharp stabbing pains in my gut as I waited for things to calm.
Day 4-Magic Kingdom ate at Pacos Bills. I got a nice normal cheeseburger plain and some fries. This was the day I noticed things were served on multigrain bread, after I had eaten through half my burger. Crohns wasn't unruly this day like the past few though and I could go about my day normally.
Day 5- Epcot! WOOT! This was the most crohns friendly day. We ate at nice spot in The Land and I got sustainable fish and cooked veggies(and creme brulee for dessert) nothing bad to report here! I also got a california roll as a snack and it was delicious!
Day 6- Magic Kingdom back to pacos bills. Since I was feeling good I decided I'd be alright eating the cheeseburger on multigrain and fries. Well halfway through y birger the unruly burger from 2 days before cae back with avengence. I became very tired and sick and made several trips to the bathroom. Nothing like trying to ride Splash and Thunder mountains with stabbing almost crippling stomache pains.
BATHROOMS
There were always bathrooms closeby when I needed them and there was almost always a stall open if not it was roughly a couple minute wait. All the bathrooms were clean almost always well stocked, I only ran into one or two bathrooms with missing soap or papertowels. The busier bathrooms had water ect on the sinks but that's expected.
Other tips
I took immodium days I knew we'd be doing a lot making it hard to reach a bathroom promptly. It lead to everything getting backed up in my system and making the harder to digest foods that much more painful. I suggest doing a run through if your going to take anti diarreahls during your trip. Find one that slows but doesn't stop everything. I also suggest bringing some ensure for the days your feeling very sick. Drink it before you leave your hotel and take anouther in case your not feeling up to eating lunch. Bring snacks also in case your in a pinch and can't find anything manageable to eat(or are to shy to ask for an easier to digest meal like I am) It's also a good energey booster in casee your family is to busy to stop at a suitable time to eat.
Also try to eat 3 times a day. Something with a good amount of protien before you leave and you won't feel as sluggish. Avoid anything yummy smelling...like when their cooking up fresh popcorn, at that point pick up your ensure or your easy to digest snack and pretent it's popcorn. lol
also spare undies and shorts or pants may seem like a pain to carry along but a lifesaver when your crohns becomes unruly. Keep a list of medicines your on around and potential side effects, take them adamently and get refills before you leave.
Good luck all you crohnies
