Doing Disney with a 1 month old?

We are in a slightly different boat, in that we're expecting our 2nd adopted child within a 3 to 9 month time frame (This is what we're being told by the agency. But, don't know exactly when yet and it could be years instead of months, the way adoption works). We have had a late September/early October trip planned for about 6 months now, which falls right in that 3-9 month window. Going with DH, DS(3), my brother and his girlfriend, my parents and in-laws. So, it's a big trip. This whole time, my only worry on the timing of our adoption has been how it could affect our Disney trip! :lmao: Obviously I'm a worrier because the chances of us having the baby by September are slim (We've been through this whole process with our 1st and know that it's usually longer than they say.). But, what if I have a 1 month old! I guess I have the advantage of not worrying about recovery time after birth. But, there is everything else to worry about! When we first started this adoption, I called Disney right away to see what would happen if we had to reschedule our trip at the last minute. They said that we could cancel up till the day before with no penalty (IF we're just rescheduling and not cancelling) AND our new dates cost more than our current dates. If our new dates cost less, then there's a $50 change fee.

Holy toledo you mamas who can do Disney with a newborn are Supermommies!!! I was so wiped out I basically didn't do anything for at least 6 weeks after my daughter was born. I think if you were to do the trip, a sling is super helpful in keeping strangers from touching your little one. Honestly sometimes I wonder if taking a toddler isn't worse germwise....they touch everything and then put their hands in their mouths. My worry would be how you are going to feel after the delivery.
TMI after the jump.....

I had terrible terrible stitches and hemorrhoids for months after the birth of my daughter. I just can't imagine all that walking with that kind of pain....

I am also due in mid-august, with our 3rd. Two days before I found out I am preggo, I scheduled a trip for October. I want to go back to MNSSHP in the worst way. We decided it would be best if we push the trip back to November, to coincide with our DD's 3rd b-day. I will be having my 3rd c-section, and so will be delivering no later than Aug. 5th. The baby will be 14 weeks when our feet hit WDW.

I was plugging numbers in the Disney website one night, saved an offer and 2 days later had a pin code for 30% off a moderate...more than free dining would be.

Maybe you could entertain pushing it back to November and hope for a pin code or public discount for that time period? We have until 9/28 to pay up or cancel, just in case something goes wrong with delivery.

We took one ds when he was 3 1/2 months and we did the September dining time. He was wonderful and easily portable but he did require us to give him supplemental water on a regular basis and he ended up going to the walk-in because he was wheezing and needed steroids.

We then took another trip in January when another ds was 3 months and that went fine. It was cooler so it was really a better time to have a little one at the parks.

I think that a cruise would be a better choice...at least until they are a few months old.

I took my son somewhere between then and 6 weeks.

BUT--we're pretty much locals, and it was just for the day, and it was a decision made at the time, not planned in advance.

Planning a trip for a 4 week old, so far out from your due date....there are so many contingencies in regards to when the baby will come and how the baby will come.

Staying positive always helps--but in the end, the healthy baby is what is on order. It is just something we cannot control even in circumstances where we think we are controlling it.

So would I take a 4 week old? Sure.

Would I plan ahead for a vacation with a 4-week old that hasn't even been born, yet? Not really.

Disney will be there and I can pass up on free dining so that I don't have to worry about whether I'll be up to it or not or worry that baby will not come at a convenient time.

As far as nursing--I have a friend that is a fanatic-nurser. Her dd was born with a cleft palate that made nursing extremely difficult. She pumped for 6 weeks and her milk dried up mysteriously. My friend was devestated. And when I say fanatic--I do mean she did EVERYTHING in her power with multiple lactation consultants and it just did not work out due to her dd's palate.

It is great to plan on such things--but again, I just want to caution that sometimes, even with the best of intentions, reality can differ.

All pregnancies and L&D's are unique events and what occurred for prior babies doesn't spell what will occur with future babies. My second baby had 2 weeks of constant blood testing b/c she was a positive Coombs baby. I thought I would pull my hair out. It was rough getting her jaundice under control and very stressful. The last thing on my mind was to go and pounce around theme parks when she was a month old. We did take her at 4 months--but at 4 weeks, I was still calming down from that unexpected 2 week whirlwind of blood tests and doctor's visits.

For the cruise--I did take DS on 2 cruises when he was 5 months old. He did great on both--very portable.

But the minimum age I think at the time was 3 months. Not sure if it has changed on DCL, but I believe it changed for Carnival which was our other cruise.

Disney will be there. I wouldn't worry about missing out on a deal. You have no crystal ball--and I would hate to feel pressured into a vacation if I found myself not up to it when reality finally presented itself.
