Dogs! Why do they pee on our beds??

I think my female is trying to tell me she wants to change up our walking routine. About a week ago, she peed on my dd's bed. It had to have just happened, it hadn't absorbed and was still a puddle on my dd's comforter. So, she's been barricaded from dd's room. (She does have a history of peeing in her room before.)

So tonight, she peed on my bed. Why?!?!? She's never ever done it in my room before. (I know it was her and my other dog by the quantity of wet and also by the fact that he can't get on my bed by himself.)

I think she's trying to tell me something about our walk routine. I've noticed that they're both getting antsier earlier every evening. (I usually walk them around 10, after dd has gone to bed. Well, dd has been going to bed later and needing more mom time, and by 9:30, they're totally on alert, even though it's usually at least another half hour, and often another hour before we go.)

Any clues. And why our beds?? If I can't get the smell out of my foam topper, I'll be :furious: I'll soak it with Nature's Miracle tomorrow and rinse it, but boy oh boy!

Have you considered she might have a medical problem like a UTI? Is she spayed?

My dog is barricaded from my room for this very reason- she has done it twice. Why? I couldn't tell ya, but my 90 lb lab will actually go out of her way to pee on my bed and I was beyond furious. So, she's not allowed in the bedrooms unsupervised.

The nature's miracle should work- I swear by that stuff.

Yep, seh's spayed, and I don't think it's medical for two reasons. One, she's showing no other symptoms at all. Plus, if she really really has to go and can't get out, her favorite place is downstairs, in the kitchen. (Where her piddle pad was 6 years ago.) Two, she's done this before, and it was around the same time of year. (she does have severe allergies, for which she gets treatment.) I really think this is behavioral.

Funny, once when we were out of town, she broke into my dd's room and peed all over the place, unbeknownst to the housesitter. (That I understood. The pack leader's gone and confusion sets in. Although I have never understood the fetish with my dd's room, since my dd's her favorite and she would prefer to sleep with her.) And of course, after years of her behaving, she peed on my dd's new carpets within a week of being installed. :scared1: And she's done the pee on the bed thing to my dd a few times over the years. But never in my room. If dd's room hadn't been gated, she would have done it there, I'm sure, instead of on mine.

I just don't get the bed thing, kwim?

One of my poms does this too! She makes me crazy! She doesn't do it often, and when she does its almost like shes being a pain just because she is upset about something.

Ugh.

Then consider yourself warned. Apparently, if you can't get to the bed you want to pee on, go to the bed available. Grrr.

Nature's Miracle hasn't worked as well for us lately. It did absolutely nothing to the carpet she peed on in my dd's room. And I'm still trying to figure out where to rinse the foam out (the cover's in the wash as we type). My back yard spigot is broken. Perfect timing, eh?

She can be great for so long, then wham.

Maybe it's because she was mad your DD was gone? (Or other unknown infractions).

I wonder what Cesar Milan would say. Probably that they're dogs and we made them pee on our beds somehow (in my case it would be that my dog doesn't get enough exercise and she's bored so hey- why not pee on Mom's bed?). :rotfl: I would LOVE to sit down with that guy for about 3 days and have him *magic* my dog. He's a freakin' genius.

Ugh.

Don't you feel like saying "could you let me know in advance when you're going to flip out, so I'm prepared?" But they lull you into thinking you're safe, and you can't imagine why they have to be confined all the time. (My other one is a charm, but I can't imagine confining one and letting the other go free.)

Probably. But then as a result, she ends up getting separated from her. She's clearly not seeing that doing A results in B.

But I'm sure she's telling me she wants to change our walk schedule. Heck, I'd love to change it, too. I started walking her before bed because she refused to pee in the back yard in the evenings. So I'd walk her to make sure she'd gone before bed. I'd love to change her to when I get home. By 9:30, when I'm still dealing with bedtime for dd11, the two dogs are ballistic waiting for their walk. I'd love to have peace at night! (We do have a big, entertaining, fenced yard. So they get lots of exercise playing out there.)

Haha! Exactly! And, believe it or not, our "pee-er" is the good one! She is a doll, sweet as can be, smart as anything. We got her when she was 5 and she had never been crated at night, so after a week of listening to her howl non-stop we caved and she sleeps wherever. Our other pom is a total spas, but she sleeps in her crate and loves it. I can't figure Sassy out, maybe she thinks we will blame Minnie for the pee? Its nuts!

My larger puppy has done this before right at bedtime, and for him it meant that I needed to restrict water access or take him out right before bed. The last time was when I switched them fromaa regular bowl to a gravity water bowl so he was getting more than normal. I've learned to take it away within a few hours of bed. At least he's considerate, he always bunches up the comforter so it doesn't soak through to anything else.

My little pees on the bed because he is still potty training and is a bit of a submissive/excited piddler. He is only allowed on the bed if he has been immediately taken out. He very rarely gets to sleep on the bed, he still spends nights in his crates.

You know, what gets me about Sassy is that she doesn't do it before bed...she will pee on our bed every couple of months at no particular time...

BTW, I swear by OUT! It sometimes takes more than one application, but it works really well. The few times it did sink thoruhg to my mattress you can't tell.

ok. so none of us has been particularly helpful... :lmao: We all have dogs that have peed on our beds, and none of us know why. :lmao:

True that. I just looked on Cesar Millan's and Warren Eckstein's websites, but no insight.

Now the culprit is sleeping in a laundry basket full of sheets going to charity, sweet as anything, blowing gas to kill me. Good thing we love our pets, eh? :lmao:

I thought we had the only dog that did that!

One of our labs, we have 4, is not allowed in our bedroom unsupervised, ever! We learned the hard way, make that the wet and smelly way, to keep our door closed. If the door accidentally gets left open and he realizes it, he will sneak in, jump on the bed and pee.

He used to pee on one of our DS bed too but not the other's bed. We're glad he didn't take to peeing on all the beds but we can't figure out why he didn't pee on the one. :confused3

Methinks she may speak too soon!!!!!! :rotfl2:

I remember saying that one time. But that was when I had bassetts.
Well, pee, no. But I've had my share of diarrhea, if it's any consolation :lmao: (not on my bed, though).

One night (years ago when we lived in an apartment) I got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and did a very long and wobbly slippery slide on the hardwood floor across the entire length of the room, just barely keeping my balance. Only when I finally came to a stop did the smell hit me. OMG!! :scared1: Nothing like cold liquid stool between your toes at 3am to fully wake you up!

Our lab/hound mix used to do that when she was younger (6-8 months old). I talked about it with a few people, and the best we could come up with was she was marking what she considered "her" territory. Thankfully, she only did it two or three times--and always on DH's side of the bed! Never mine. But, she is more my dog than his.

DH made it clear to her that he is also a leader and his space is to be respected. He did that simply by spending a little more time with her. It seems that once she was clear on her place in the "pack," she was fine.
