Doggie question... Help!

We are thinking about getting a Lab puppie. We just talked to a fencing guy, and we are laying out our fence.

I wanted to have the fence in area include the steps up onto our deck. DH says that the dog would likely just climb/jump right over the deck rail (standard height....) and be free to roam!!!! The deck is like two feet to three feet above ground.

Any good advice or input???

I doubt that a deck railing would contain a Lab who wants to roam! You should have a five or six foot fence all around to keep your dog safe.

Food for thought if you're constructing a fence now: we like having a small separate kennel area where the dog can relieve himself and then join us in the rest of the yard - it's so nice not to have dog poop all over the yard and makes it relatively easy to clean. Good Luck.

My lab will jump or climb over just about anything. Especially when the wind blows. I'd make it pretty tall to keep it in.
